The Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Department of the Basque Government
supports the fishing sector companies that attend the EUROPEAN
SEAFOOD EXHIBITION to promote their exports. Represented sectors
are: fresh and frozen fish processors, canning industries, cod processors
and pre-cooked food processors.
The Basque Country has always been a land facing the sea. Nowadays,
we have a high-qualified fish processing industry that undergoes strict
quality controls giving up high-value products, as well as a hightechnique fish canning industry, characterized by its traditional methods,
especially to process White Tuna (Bonito del Norte) and anchovy filets
from the Bay of Biscay, the fish that traditionally has entered the Basque
fishing ports.
WITH ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EU FISHERIES SECTORS
The fishing tradition of the Basque Country finds its roots deep in history.
Nowadays it is one of the most competitive due to its natural potential
and the performance of the 17 ports. Another factor that contributes to
its success is the efficiency of the companies related to the fishing sector
as well as its optimum exporting capacity and it’s renewed fishing fleet.
Currently, the Basque coastal fishing fleet is the most updated one in
the EU. On the whole, the considerable effort made by the Basque
ship owners to place them at the uppermost level, has been possible
thanks to the assistance given by the Basque Government’s Agriculture,
Fisheries and Food Department. An unrecorded renewal of the fleet has
been achieved, permitting it to become one of the most profitable and
competitive ones in Europe.

Le Département de l’Agriculture, de la Pêche et de l’Alimentation
du Gouvernement Basque appuie les entreprises du secteur de la
pêche qui assistent à la EUROPEAN SEAFOOD EXHIBITION avec
l’intention de promouvoir les exportations de leurs produits. Les
firmes qui composent la délégation appartiennent à des secteurs
différents: exportateurs et transformateurs de poisson frais et
surgelé, fabricants de conserves, transformateurs de morue et de
plats cuisinés.
Le Pays Basque a toujours été un peuple qui regarde la mer. De
nos jours, nous bénéficions d’une industrie de transformation
de poisson frais et surgelé ainsi que d’une industrie conservière
de premier rang, caractérisées par une élaboration artisanale,
notamment la transformation du thon blanc du Nord et de l’anchois,
qui sont des poissons traditionnellement pêchés dans les ports
basques. Pour l’industrie de la morue, les produits sélectionnés
sont issus des meilleurs lieux de pêche. Ces produits sont soumis à
des contrôles rigoureux qui garantissent en toute occasion la haute
qualité de tous nos produits.
L’UN DES PRINCIPAUX SECTEURS PÊCHE DE L’UNION
EUROPÉENNE
Le Pays Basque jouit d’une longue tradition de pêche, une tradition
profondément enracinée dans l’histoire. Le secteur de la pêche au
Pays Basque a toujours été d’un grand dynamisme. Actuellement,
il est l’un des secteurs le plus compétitive grâce notamment à notre
potentiel naturel et à la performance de nos 17 ports. Parmi les
autres facteurs qui contribuent à son succès, on trouve l’efficacité
des entreprises liées au secteur de la pêche, une formidable
capacité d’exportation et une flotte toute récemment renouvelée.
La flotte de pêche actuellement amarrée le long des côtes
basques est la plus moderne de toute l’Union Européenne. Cette
modernisation a permis aux armateurs Basques de se situer “au
tout premier rang” grâce à l’aide du Département de l’Agriculture,
de la Pêche et de l’Alimentation du Gouvernement Autonome
Basque, et de remporter un pari sans précédent en Europe, celui
de rénover toute leur flotte de pêche.
