Cette bibliographie sélective se compose de rubriques thématiques et biographiques
constituées principalement d’ouvrages universitaires. Elle comporte aussi deux rubriques
présentant, de manière non exhaustive, des « éléments du canon conservateur » d’une part,
des « mémoires et témoignages » d’autre part. Elle signale enfin, à l’attention des étudiants
et des préparateurs, un ensemble de « textes polémiques » destinés au grand public
américain. Ces documents, souvent très partisans, témoignent de la vivacité du débat
politique ; c’est la raison pour laquelle ils ont été retenus.
