Le panorama à 360° vous emmène dans un voyage
à travers le temps, au cœur de la Rome de l’Antiquité
tardive, en l’an 312 ap. J.C. L’observateur se trouve
au-dessus des collines ornées de célèbres temples,
thermes, basiliques, arcs de triomphe ou casernes.
Le paysage s’étend du mur d’Aurélien jusqu’aux
monts Sabins. Des ensembles architecturaux
antiques, davantage connus aujourd’hui comme
des sites archéologiques reprennent vie au milieu
du panorama. ROME 312 vous entraîne dans la
mégalopole antique, à l’apogée de sa grandeur
architecturale.
ROME 312 représente également le passage de
l’Antiquité à l’Occident chrétien. On y percoit la
marche triomphale de l’empereur Constantin après
sa victoire contre Maxence. Selon la légende,
Constantin posa les bases de la propagation du
christianisme la veille au soir: Un symbole formé
des deux lettres grecques chi et rhô ( ) lui serait
apparu. Le Christ lui aurait expliqué en songe que
ce symbole était signe de victoire. Constantin choisit
alors le Christ comme divinité protectrice, fit inscrire
le «chrisme» sur les boucliers de ses troupes et
vainquit. Quelques années auparavant, les premiers
chrétiens étaient encore cruellement persécutés.

The 360° Panorama takes you on a journey through
time back to Late Ancient Rome in the year 312
AD. Via densely urbanised hills, famous temples,
thermae (bath complexes), basilica, triumphal arches and insulae (tenement blocks), the gaze of the
observer sweeps over the Aurelian Wall all the way
up to the Sabine Hills. Today mainly known as ruins,
life in the Roman capital throbs in the midst of the
closely knit architectural ensemble. The ROME 312
Panorama conveys you into the architectural splendour of the mega-city of Antiquity in its heyday.
ROME 312 also depicts the historical watershed
that paved the way from Antiquity to the Christian
Occident. You discover the Emperor Constantine
entering the city in a triumphal procession following
the victorious battle against Maxentius. According
to legend, Constantine laid the foundations for the
propagation of Christianity on the eve of battle. A
symbol consisting of the two Greek letters chi and
rho ( ) appeared to him. Christ explained to him in
a dream that this symbol was a sign of victory. As a
result, Constantine chose Christ as his divine protector, had the Chi-Rho symbol engraved on his troops‘
shields and won. Just a few years before, the first
Christians were still being cruelly persecuted.
