FT 840 Mods
EXPANDED TX/ RF 1.8 - 30 Mhz
1- Remove power and antenna from the radio.
2- Remove the top and bottom covers.
3- Locate the Unit TEMPORARILY Jumper TP-2003 to ground.
4- Press and hold [SSB] and [AM] and turn radio ON (Display will show 02-OFF).
5- Rotate main control knob to show 02-ON
6- Press [AM]. The display should show (7.000.00 LSB).
7- Turn the radio OFF.
8- Press and hold [MEM], [DOWN], [UP] and turn ON.
9- Turn the radio OFF agaim.
10- Remove the jumper to ground on TP-2003.
11- Reassemble the radio.

FT-480 DRM mods
WARNING: This modification will void your warranty and eventually kill your transceiver if you don't do it carefully.
This is the modification I've made for my FT-840. The down mixer's schematic won't be explained in this page since you can find many
examples here.
The goal of this modification is to have a signal with a wide bandwidth of 12kHz, which is needed to receive the whole DRM signal.
The down mixer will be used to subtract a fixed frequency from the 2nd IF and get something close to those 12kHz. Since the 2nd IF's
frequency is 8.215MHz, the only easy way to do what we want to do is to use a 8.192MHz crystal.
As you can see, the bandwidth is wider than what we need, but it simplifies the schematic since there is only one down mixer. The unwanted
signals will be eliminated by a software filter.

soigneusement.
Voici la modification que j'ai fait pour mon FT-840. Le schéma du mélangeur ne sera pas expliqué ici puisque vous pouver trouver plusieurs
exemples ici.
Le but de cette modification est d'avoir un signal avec une bande passante large de 12kHz, qui est nécéssaire pour reçevoir le signal DRM
complet.
Le mélangeur sera utilisé pour soustraire une fréquence fixe à la 2eme FI et avoir quelquechose proche de ces 12kHz. Puisque la fréquence de
la 2eme FI est 8.215MHz, la seule façon simple d'avoir ce qu'on veut est d'utiliser un quartz de 8.192MHz.
Comme vous pouvez le constater, la bande passante est plus large que ce dont on a besoin, mais ça simplifie le schéma puisqu'il n'y a qu'un
mélangeur. Les signaux indésirables seront éliminés par un filtre logiciel.
