1. Scam targetting businesses
Someone calls the store and identifies themselves as a business owner from a few shops
down -- a barber or a mechanic. The caller says they are stuck in Renfrew and won't be
able to meet someone at their store that they need to pay $100-$200 to. Could the person
they are speaking with please give that money to someone coming into their store. They
are assured that the money will be paid back at the end of the day.
2. Robbery suspect sought
The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is seeking the public's assistance in identifying
a suspect believed responsible for two downtown retail robberies.
On July 8, 2012, at approximately 1:20 am, a lone male suspect entered a convenience
store situated along the 400 block of Rideau Street. The male made a demand for cash
but fled the store empty handed. On the same date, at approximately 4:20 am, the same
suspect entered a convenience store situated along the 300 block of Rideau Street. The
suspect made a demand for cash and fled the store with an undisclosed quantity of same.
There were no injuries as a result of either robbery. No weapon was seen.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, 30-40 years of age, English
speaking, large build, clean shaven, with graying hair. He was wearing green shorts,
white running shoes and a white baseball cap. He changed shirts from a white and
green striped long sleeve shirt in the initial robbery to a grey t-shirt for the second.
Anyone with information with respect to this robbery, or any other robbery, is asked to

3. Search warrants executed
On July 31, 2012, two criminal code search warrants were executed on a business on
Cobden Road and a residence on Southwood Drive. The investigation began after
information was received by West Neighbourhood officers that the owner of the Cobden
Road business was taking in stolen property at that location. Working with the West
Break & Enter Team, the West Neighbourhood officers obtained the warrants, which
were executed by the Tactical Unit.
The search of the two locations has yielded a cache of stolen property that is valued at
over $150,000. The Break & Enter investigators undertake the task of going through the
property to link it to crimes and identify owners. This will likely take several weeks
because of the amount of property seized.
"This case is an excellent example of our sections working together for a successful
result" said Staff Sergeant Kal Ghadban of the Break & Enter Team. "This seizure will
assist many victims of crimes by having their stolen belongings returned to them".
Some of the items seized include clothing, tools, cameras, computers, credit cards as
well as a stolen firearm.
Charged: Hicham RAMADAN (male) 48yrs of Ottawa
Charges: Possession of property obtained by crime, Possession of a firearm knowing its
possession is unauthorized and Careless storage of a firearm.
As owners are identified of the property, further charges will be laid.
4. Suspect sought
The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is seeking the public's assistance in identifying
a suspect responsible for a jewelry store robbery.
On July 26, 2012, at approximately 2:00 pm, a lone male entered a jewelry store situated
along the 1900 block of St. Laurent Boulevard. The male initially posed as an interested
customer but then suddenly made a more violent demand for jewelry. The suspect
smashed a jewelry display case but ultimately fled the store empty handed. The suspect
fled to a waiting vehicle with one or two other occupants. The waiting vehicle was
possibly a silver Honda Civic.
The suspect is described as being a black male, larger build, 6'1"(1,85 m), 22-25yrs,
dark hair, clean shaven, wearing a grey hoodie. (see attached image)

5. STEP in August
The City of Ottawa’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) is targeting
distracted driving and appropriate seat belt and child safety restraint use this month as
part of its ongoing commitment to keeping Ottawa’s roads safe.
Distracted driving:
Between 2008 and 2010, driver distraction was either fully or partially the cause of
6,129 traffic collisions in Ottawa. The collisions resulted in nine deaths and 1,976
injuries (84 of them serious).
Seat belt/child safety restraint use:
Between 2006 and 2010, 26 people were killed, 50 suffered life-threatening injuries and
another 202 were injured in Ottawa as a result of not wearing vehicle occupant
restraints. Twenty of those 26 fatalities were male.
Drivers need to make sure that they focus their full attention on safe driving and all
occupants of a vehicle need to be using their seat belts or child safety restraints.
These initiatives support the larger Safer Roads Ottawa Program, a leading partnership
between Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service,
Ottawa Public Health and the Public Works Department committed to preventing or
eliminating road deaths and serious injuries for all people in the City of Ottawa, through
culture change, community engagement, and development of a sustainable safe
transportation environment.
Ottawa residents have identified traffic safety as a top priority. The Safer Roads Ottawa
Program is committed to using available resources to make Ottawa roads safer for
residents.

1. Individu recherché pour vol
Le Service de police d’Ottawa lance un appel à la population dans le but d’identifier un
suspect recherché a suspect estimé responsable de deux vols perpétrés dans des
dépanneurs du centre-ville.
Le 8 juillet 2012 vers 1 h 20, un suspect se présenta seul dans un dépanneur du bloc des
400 de la rue Rideau. L’individu exigea de l’argent comptant mais s’enfuit bredouille du
commerce. Le même jour, vers 4 h 20, le même suspect entra dans un dépanneur situé
dans le bloc des 300 de la rue Rideau. Le suspect exigea de l’argent comptant et prit la
fuite en possession d’un montant en espèces, qui n’a pas été divulgué. Dans un cas
comme dans l’autre, aucune arme ne fut aperçue et personne ne fut blessé.
Le suspect a été décrit comme étant un homme de race blanche dans la trentaine, parlant
l’anglais, de carrure forte, rasé de près, aux cheveux grisonnants. Il portait une culotte
courte verte, des espadrilles blanches et une casquette de baseball blanche. Il changea la
chemise verte et blanche à manches longues qu’il portait lors du premier vol pour revêtir
un tee-shirt gris, qu’il porta lors du second (voir les photos ci-jointes.)
Toute personne ayant des renseignements pertinents à ces vols, ou à tout autre vol, est
priée de communiquer avec l’Unité des vols au 613-236-1222, poste 5116, ou Échec au

2. Mandats de perquisition exécutés
Le mardi 31 juillet 2012, deux mandats de perquisition, délivrés en vertu du code
criminel, furent exécutés dans un commerce du chemin Cobden et dans une résidence de
la promenade Southwood. Une enquête fut ouverte lorsque des agents de quartier de la
division Ouest reçurent des renseignements leur indiquant que le propriétaire du
commerce du chemin Cobden y faisait le recel de biens volés. Oeuvrant avec l’Unité des
introductions par effraction, les agents de quartier de la division Ouest obtinrent les
mandats qui furent ensuite exécutés par l’Unité tactique.
La fouille des deux endroits mit à jour une cache of biens volés évaluée à plus de 150
000$. Les enquêteurs en introductions par effraction s’affairent à la tâche de trier les
biens pour les relier à des crimes puis à en identifier les propriétaires. Ce processus
devrait durer plusieurs semaines, en raison du vaste nombre de biens faisant l’objet de la
saisie.
«Cette affaire est un excellent exemple d’une collaboration efficace entre nos sections
aboutissant au succès» dit le sergent d’état-major Kal Ghadban de l’Unité des
introductions par effraction. «Cette saisie aidera plus d’une victime d’acte criminel par
la voie du retour de biens qui leur avaient été volés.»
Parmi les articles saisis, on compte des vêtements, des outils, des appareils photo, des
ordinateurs, des cartes de crédit, ainsi qu’une arme à feu volée.
L’inculpé:
Hicham RAMADAN, un homme d’Ottawa âgé de 48 ans
Les accusations: Possession d’une arme à feu obtenue lors de la perpétration d’une
infraction, possession d’une arme à feu tout en sachant que sa possession est interdite, et
entreposage négligent d'une arme à feu.
Avec l’identification des légitimes propriétaires des biens, d’autres accusations seront
portées.
3. Suspect recherché
L’Unité des vols du Service de police d’Ottawa lance un appel à la population dans le
but d’identifier un suspect responsable d’un vol dans une bijouterie.
Le 26 juillet 2012, vers 14 h 00, un homme entra seul dans une bijouterie du bloc des 1
900 du boulevard Saint-Laurent. L’homme se présenta d’abord comme un client
intéressé mais se mit subitement à exiger agressivement des bijoux. Le suspect fracassa
un présentoir mais quitta finalement le magasin sans rien obtenir. Le malfaiteur s’enfuit
jusqu’à un véhicule qui l’attendait, et y rejoint un ou deux complices. Le véhicule en
question était possiblement une Honda Civic de couleur argent.
Le suspect a été décrit comme étant un homme de race noire, de carrure forte, mesurant
1,85 m (6 pi 1 po), âgé de 22 à 25 ans, les cheveux foncés, rasé de près, portant un
chandail gris à capuchon (voir la photo ci-jointe.)
Toute personne ayant des renseignements pertinents à ce suspect, à ce vol, ou à tout

4. PASC au mois d’août
Ce mois-ci, le Programme d’application sélective en matière de circulation (PASC) de
la Ville d’Ottawa cible les conducteurs distraits, le port adéquat de la ceinture de
sécurité et l’utilisation d’un dispositif de retenue appropriée des enfants dans le cadre de
son engagement permanent visant à rendre les routes d’Ottawa plus sûres.
La distraction au volant :
Entre 2008 et 2010, la distraction au volant a été à l’origine, en tout ou en partie, de 6
129 accidents de la circulation à Ottawa. Ces collisions ont provoqué neuf décès et
1 976 blessures (dont 84 graves).
Le port d’une ceinture de sécurité / d’un harnais de sécurité pour les enfants :
Entre 2006 et 2010, à Ottawa, 26 personnes ont été tuées, 50 ont subi des blessures
graves et 202 autres ont été blessées pour ne pas avoir porté de ceinture ou de harnais de
sécurité réservé aux occupants du véhicule. Sur les 26 personnes décédées, 20 étaient
des hommes.
Les conducteurs doivent s’assurer qu’ils apportent vraiment toute leur attention à la
conduite sécuritaire et que tous les occupants du véhicule portent leur ceinture de
sécurité ou les enfants leur harnais de sécurité.
Ces initiatives appuient le vaste programme d’amélioration de la sécurité des routes à
Ottawa, un partenariat de premier plan entre le Service des incendies d’Ottawa, le
Service paramédic d’Ottawa, le Service de police d’Ottawa, Santé publique Ottawa et
les Services des travaux publics. Ces derniers se sont engagés à empêcher ou à éliminer
les décès et les blessures graves dus aux accidents de la circulation pour toutes les
personnes se trouvant sur le territoire de la Ville d’Ottawa, et ce, grâce à un changement
culturel, à l’engagement communautaire et à la mise en place d’un milieu de transport
sûr et durable.

OPS and By-Law services base their work on call statistics. The more calls that you
make, the more neighbourhood services we receive. There are three steps to making the
call:
a) Deciding which number to phone.
If you have an emergency or see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. If your car was broken
into or you need police to attend another non-urgent situation, please call the “other
emergencies” number (613-230-6211). To report an incident after it occurred without
police attending the scene, please call 613-236-1222 – ext. 7300. You can reach by-law
services at 3-1-1.
b) Getting a report number.
When the dispatcher answers, it is a good idea to ask for a report number immediately.
We’ve found that dispatchers sometimes hang up before we get to ask for a number or we
forget. Asking for a report number right away solves these problems.
c) Share your report number and incident.
Please e-mail your report numbers and a brief description of the incident to your Block
Captain (if you have one), or directly to us.
Importance of Reporting Prostitution and Problem Addresses
Neighbourhood Watch members can support the police by writing down and phoning in
important information such as: vehicle descriptions and license plate numbers (specify
Ontario or Quebec) of anyone soliciting prostitutes, descriptions of drug dealers and
addresses of crack houses.
