Not only do these additives detract from the natural flavor and character of the
wines, but they also don’t help your hangover.
As such, organic wines are on the rise. Wines that rely on natural fertilizers and
organic farming techniques produce grapes, and therefore wine that is undeniably
cleaner in flavor and more evocative of the place in which it has been grown.
Biodynamic wines go one step further. Biodynamic methods see the vineyard as part
of a greater ecological whole, intricately connected to the wider flora and fauna
around it. An ancient and strict biodynamic calendar is followed that pays special
respect to the spiritual forces of the cosmos, such as lunar cycles and seasons. The
resulting wine is perfectly balanced and inextricably linked to the soil in which it
was grown.

grape varieties alongside Sangiovese, particularly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and
Syrah. Super Tuscan wines were propelled onto the world scene in the 1970s by a
handful of innovative artisan producers determined to repair Italy’s reputation for
low quality “spaghetti Chianti”.
