Le Club Med est le lauréat du Randstad Award
Press release
22nd May 2014
Club Med hires in apprenticeship: a true access to many different fields of activity
and plenty of scope for professional development
With over 13 000 G.O® and G.E® in the Europe-Africa zone, Club Med is the employer of choice for over
100 professions. For more than 8 years Club Med has offered training contracts to students with both
theoretical and practical training which are arranged between the school and the company. More than a
professional experience, the apprenticeship at Club Med is a true springboard for employment as students
shall be offered an employment contract at the end of their training. Therefore it is a gateway which allows
them to benefit from tailor-made professional development; at the heart of the company’s employer
promise.
More than 130 positions available for the coming year in 12 different professions
Over the course of 8 years, Club Med has offered
The apprenticeship in figures :
a thorough training and professional integration
policy through the apprenticeship which 2,000
o
4 professions family concerned : sport, catering,
childcare and events
people have already benefited from. The
o
5 partnerstraining centers
apprenticeship enables Club Med to tackle
o
Contracts from 8 to 12 months
three challenges:
o A disctribution of training time : about 1/3 in training
- The difficulty to hire high calibre
and 2/3 in resort
graduates in sports, catering, events…
professions
- The need of specific skills for some “tailor-made” positions such as circus, production e.g. sound
and lighting
- The strong commitment to be a trainer developer through providing a high level of qualification to
its employees and in this way boost their employability
With a professional training contract, the employee alternates time in the classroom at school and training
with Club Med. The position held in the resort corresponds to the degree or qualification of the
apprenticeship, and they are also paid during his/her contract (based on the prevailing rate). So he earns a
diploma, a qualification or a certification and gains significant experience as well that will make him more
attractive on the labour market.
More than 130 places are available for the coming year in 12 different fields (including 4 novelties).
Registration takes place between June and September/October depending on the course and applications
have to be sent to the partner training institution. Full details of courses are available in the appendix.
Because Club Med promises its future recruits to develop their professional skills, the apprenticeship is one
of the key plans for professionalization and career development such as VPE and potential programs.
Career development at the heart of the Club Med employer promise
Club Med made the « career development » of its employees one of the 3 pillars of its employer promise.
The company enables G.O® and G.E® to grow professionally thanks to training programs, a system of talent
identification and unique human resources management to favour both vertical and cross-disciplinary
mobility.
Club Med thus supports the skill acquisition of its employees with the potential to become a manager. This is
confirmed by the fact that 100% of Chefs de Village and 100% of Chief Executives have been appointed via
internal promotion. For example the company developed the «Manager by Club Med » training program
with all of the managers of Club Med, whether they work in the headquarters, the resorts or in the offices.
The training takes place over 4 days, covering 7 major aspects enabling each person to identify his/her talent
as well as contributing towards organisational et managerial skills. The 1,250 Club Med Managers are trained
towards the end of 2014.
Club Med set up since 2000 the Validation of
Prior Experience (VPE) which allows teams
learning new skills to get recognition by a
diploma.
For example degree courses are
developed for Chefs de Village who had the
opportunity
to
pursue
a
“International
Entrepreneurship and SMEs” Master degree
since 2009.
Highlights of training in 2014
o Support the roll-out of manager, catering and event
training
o Boost the employability of G.O® et G.E® throughout
trainings and certified pathways
o Train managers in resorts in English
o Rally managers on the product « Happy Selling »
o Roll out the programme « Manager by Club Med » on
each manager in resorts
Beyond this managerial coaching, Club Med points out cross-cutting progressions allowing G.O® to learn a
new profession that contributes towards developing their expertise and their employability. Thus some G.O®
may, if they wish so, work one season as a Sailing Instructor and learn the Skiman position during winter. To
ensure this they will be trained to obtain the required diploma and/or qualifications for those 2 professions.
Those « profession-links » allow Club Med to retain its top talent and G.O® to work throughout the year in
professions usually limited to seasonal staff. What’s more Club Med allows its spa practitioners to benefit
from training with renowned brands protocols with which the company works (Cinq mondes, Payot, Carita,
Décléor, etc) giving them the opportunity to expand their expertise and boost their employability.
Professional development for employability
This professional development through training and profession links is recognized by G.O ® et G.E® as an
important driver for their employability after leaving the company.
In a study published last December Club Med has interviewed former
G.O® et G.E® 1 about their Club Med experience. Of the 1,215
respondents, 90% of them recommend the Club Med experience to a
relative. Also 86% believes that they have developed important
professional assets. Among these assets: take on new responsibilities,
discovery of a new profession, learn a foreign language…. 55% report
having received at least once training during their Club Med
experience.
