Monthey, considérée comme la première ville industrielle du Valais, a joué
un rôle d’avant-garde dans les secteurs de la chimie, des pierres synthétiques
et de la construction métallique.
L’histoire presque millénaire de la ville a laissé quelques merveilles historiques
au centre-ville, comme le Château du XVe siècle qui abrite le Musée du Vieux
Monthey et le souvenir du Gros Bellet, la Chapelle du Pont (1490), l’Hôtel de Ville
(1710) ou encore le Pont Couvert (1809).
EN TRAIN
A l’écart de la ligne CFF Lausanne-Simplon, Monthey est toutefois facilement
accessible par le rail, grâce aux lignes St-Maurice-Monthey (RegionAlps) et
Aigle-Ollon-Monthey-Champéry (AOMC). Le vaste domaine skiable des Portes
du Soleil est à portée de main, grâce à cette même ligne qui joint la plaine
et ses parkings, au pied des pistes de ski et de leurs remontées mécaniques.
BY TRAIN
Apart from the CFF Lausanne-Simplon line, Monthey is easily accessible by train
thanks to the St-Maurice-Monthey (RegionAlps) and the Aigle-Ollon-MontheyChampéry (AOMC) lines. The extensive Portes du Soleil ski resort is also within
easy reach thanks to this line which links the valleys and car parks with
the foot of the ski slopes and cable cars.

Abseits der SBB-Linie Lausanne-Simplon, ist Monthey jedoch leicht mit dem Zug
erreichbar, und zwar über die Linie St-Maurice-Monthey (RegionAlps) oder

Monthey is considered to be the first industrial town in Valais and has played
a leading role in the fields of chemistry, synthetic stones and metal construction.
The history of the town dates back close to 1000 years and has led to the development of various key landmarks in the centre such as the 15th century castle which
houses the Museum of Old Monthey, a homage to Gros Bellet, the Chapel of
Notre-Dame du Pont (1490), the Town Hall (1710) and the Covered Bridge (1809).
Monthey gilt als wichtigste Industriestadt des Wallis und spielte einer Vorreiterrolle
in den Bereichen Chemie, synthetische Edelsteine und Metallbau.
Der fast tausendjährigen Geschichte der Stadt sind einige historische Schmuckstücke im Stadtzentrum zu verdanken – wie etwa das Schloss aus dem 15. Jahrhundert, in dem das Museum des Alten Monthey und die Erinnerung an den
Gros Bellet untergebracht sind, sowie die Kapelle (aus dem Jahr 1490), das Rathaus

LE PONT COUVERT
Remarquable structure, ce passage est un témoin de la maîtrise des charpentiers.
Sa construction est souvent faussement attribuée à Napoléon.
En réalité, le Vieux Pont de Monthey fut construit par la commune en 1809,
une année avant que le Valais, république dite alors indépendante sous
le protectorat de la France impériale, n’en devienne le 130e département sous
le nom de Département du Simplon. Ce pont vit le trafic intense des divers
contingents militaires napoléoniens et, en 1813-1814, le passage des colonnes
autrichiennes marchant sur la Savoie.

THE COVERED BRIDGE
This remarkable covered structure bears testament to the skill of the local
carpenters. Its construction is often incorrectly attributed to Napoleon.
In reality, the Old Bridge of Monthey was built by the community in 1809, the year
before the Valais (an independent republic under the protectorate of imperial
France) became the 130th department under the name of «Département du
Simplon». This bridge witnessed the intense movement of various Napoleonic
military contingents and, in 1813-1814, the arrival of Austrian troops marching
on the Savoy.
DIE ÜBERDACHTE BRÜCKE
Diese bemerkenswerte Konstruktion ist ein Zeugnis des Zimmermannshandwerks.
Dieses Bauwerk wird oft fälschlicherweise Napoleon zugeordnet. In Wirklichkeit
wurde die Alte Brücke von Monthey im Jahr 1809 von der Gemeinde errichtet –
ein Jahr bevor das Wallis unter dem Protektorat des imperialen Frankreichs als
unabhängig ausgerufen und zum 130. Département mit dem Namen «Département
du Simplon» wurde. Diese Brücke erlebte zahlreiche Durchmärsche
der verschiedene Militärkontigent Napoleons und in den Jahren 1813-1814 die

LA STATUE DE LA VIÈZE DÉCHAÎNÉE
Cette sculpture qui date de 1939 est l’œuvre du sculpteur Montheysan
Jean Casanova. L’extraordinaire chevelure de cette femme illustre la violence
des flots et le pouvoir destructeur de la rivière. Cette œuvre exprime ainsi toute
l’ambivalence de l’eau, à la fois dangereuse et bienfaisante, destructrice et
créatrice, symbole de la mort et de la vie. Le mot «Vièze » dérive de la racine
indo-européenne «wes» signifiant nourriture, et s’est transformée au cours
du temps en «Viège», puis «Vièze ».
THE STATUE OF THE RAGING VIÈZE
This sculpture was produced by Monthey’s artist Jean Casanova in 1939.
The extraordinary hair of the lady portays the wild flow and destructive power of
the river. The work expresses the ambivalence of water which is both dangerous
and beneficial, destructive yet creative and a symbol of life and death. The word
«Vièze» is derived from the Indo-European word «wes» meaning food and over
time has been transformed into «Viège» and then «Vièze».

Die aussergewöhnliche Haartracht dieser Frau veranschaulicht die Gewalt
der Fluten und die zerstörerische Kraft des Wassers. Dieses Kunstwerk drückt aber
auch die Ambivalenz von Wasser aus – gleichzeitig gefährlich und wohltuend,
Leben zerstörend und Leben schaffend – ein Symbol sowohl für den Tod als auch
für das Leben. Das Wort «Vièze» hat seine Wurzeln in dem indo-europäischen
Wort «wes», was «Nahrung» bedeutet, und wandelte sich im Laufe der Zeit
zu «Viège » und später zu «Vièze».

THE CASTLE
During the 14th century, Perrod Du Chastellex erected an urban tower and small
main building, no doubt with the consent of the Count of Savoy. The castle
was developed over time with the addition of various new buildings. Owners
came and went : the Lords The Châtelard succeeded The Chastellex and The Compey
succeeded The Châtelard. In December 1507, the castle fell into the hands of The
Rosey family, vidomne of Monthey and bailiff of Chablais. The conquest of 1536
led to the people of Valais seizing the castle and accommodating their governors
here. From then on and until the end of the Ancien Régime (1798), it served as
the administrative centre of the government of Monthey (approximately covering
the current county).
On 6 February 1606, the castle burnt down at the same time as part of the town.
Rebuilding work began quickly afterwards, under the guidance of the governor
of the day, Antoine Waldin. All of the reconstruction work was finished the following year. More work took place between 1663 and 1664. Following various
long-running conflicts with the canton, the castle became the property of the
community and bourgeoisie of Monthey on 26 May 1900. At the start of the 21st
century, it acquired a new role dedicated to history and culture.
LE CHÂTEAU
Au courant du 14e siècle, Perrod Du Chastellex fit ériger une tour urbaine et
un petit corps de logis avec l’accord sans doute du comte de Savoie. Le temps
passant, cet édifice évolua par adjonctions de divers nouveaux bâtiments.
Les propriétaires vont et viennent : les seigneurs Du Châtelard succédèrent aux
Du Chastellex ; les De Compey aux Du Châtelard. En décembre 1507, le Château
passa aux mains de la famille Du Rosey, vidomne de Monthey et bailli du
Chablais. Avec la conquête de 1536, les Valaisans s’emparèrent du Château
et y logèrent leurs gouverneurs. Désormais et jusqu’à la fin de l’Ancien Régime
(1798) il devint le centre administratif du Gouvernement de Monthey (approximativement notre district actuel).
Le 6 février 1606, il brûla avec une partie de la ville. On s’activa rapidement à
le reconstruire sous la direction d’Antoine Waldin, le gouverneur d’alors.
L’ensemble des travaux fut achevé l’année suivante. Toutefois l’ouvrage sera
repris entre 1663 et 1664. Après de longs démêlés avec le canton, le Château
devient propriété de la Commune et de la bourgeoisie de Monthey, le 26 mai
1900. Au début du 21e siècle, il acquiert une nouvelle destinée essentiellement
historique et culturelle.
DAS SCHLOSS
Im 14. Jahrhundert liess Perrod Du Chastellex einen Stadtturm und einen kleinen
Wohnkörper errichten, und dies zweifellos mit der Zustimmung des Grafen von
Savoyen. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde das Gebäude durch Hinzufügen von verschiedenen Neubauten immer grösser. Die Eigentümer kamen und gingen: die Herren
Von Châtelard folgten auf die Herren Von Chastellex, die Von Compey auf die Von
Châtelard. Im Dezember 1507 ging das Schloss in die Hände der Familie Von Rosey,
Vidame von Monthey und Landvogt von Chablais, über.
Mit dem Sieg im Jahre 1536 eroberten die Walliser das Schloss, und ihre Gouverneure
hielten dort Einzug. Von da an und bis zum Ende des Ancien Régime (1798) diente
das Schloss als Verwaltungszentrale der Regierung von Monthey (was ungefähr
unserem derzeitigen Distrikt entspricht).
Am 6. Februar 1606 stand das Schloss, wie auch ein Teil der Stadt, in Flammen.
Unter der Leitung des damaligen Gouverneurs Antoine Waldin begann man schnell
mit dem Wiederaufbau. Die gesamten Arbeiten wurden im darauf folgenden Jahr
abgeschlossen. Jedoch wurde das Bauwerk erst zwischen 1663 und 1664 wieder
in Betrieb genommen. Nach langen Streitigkeiten mit dem Kanton ging das Schloss
am 26. Mai 1900 in den Besitz der Gemeinde und der Bürger von Monthey über.
Zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts bekam das Schloss einen neuen, ausschliesslich
historisch und kulturell ausgerichteten Verwendungszweck.

LA STATUE DU GROS BELLET
Pierre-Maurice Rey-Bellet, dit le «Gros Bellet », paysan de Val-d’Illiez fut l’un
des artisans de la fameuse «Révolution bas-valaisanne de 1790». Il s’opposa fermement au gouverneur Schiner, qu’il aurait suspendu par une fenêtre donnant sur
la cour du château ; d’autres disent qu’il l’aurait précipité dans la cage d’escalier.
A la suite de cette action mémorable, le gouverneur prit la fuite accompagné
de son épouse. Homme droit, généreux et pacifiste, on considère le Gros Bellet
comme un héros et on le chante aujourd’hui encore. Sa statue qui
trône à l’entrée des jardins du Château est une œuvre du sculpteur André
Vassaux (1968).

THE STATUE OF THE GROS BELLET
Pierre-Maurice Rey-Bellet, known as the «Gros Bellet», was a farmer from
Val-d’Illiez and became one of the leaders of the famous «Lower Valais Revolution
of 1790». He was firmly opposed to the governor Schiner whom he is said to have
suspended from the window which looks out onto the castle courtyard. Others
claim he chased the governor down the stairs. Following this memorable event,
the governor and his wife fled. Gros Bellet is considered to have been an honest
and generous man and a pacifist. He is regarded as a hero and people still sing
his praises today. His statue towers over the entrance to the castle gardens and
was created by sculptor André Vassaux (1968).
DIE STATUE DES GROS BELLET
Pierre-Maurice Rey-Bellet, genannt der «Gros Bellet», ein Bauer aus Val-d’Illiez,
war einer der Beteiligten am berühmten «Unterwalliser Aufstand von 1790».
Er stellte sich vehement gegen den Gouverneur Schiner, den er aus einem Fenster
zum Schlosshof heraushängte. Andere berichten, er habe ihn den Treppenflur
hinunter gestürzt. Nach diesem denkwürdigen Vorfall ergriff der Gouverneur in
Begleitung seiner Frau die Flucht. Bekannt als rechtschaffener, grosszügiger
und pazifistischer Mensch, wird der Gros Bellet noch heute als Held verehrt
und es werden Lieder über ihn gesungen. Seine Statue, die am Eingang
zu den Schlossgärten thront, ist ein Kunstwerk des Bildhauers André Vassaux
(aus dem Jahr 1968).

L’HÔTEL DE VILLE
Qui se douterait que l’Hôtel de Ville abritait l’hôpital de la localité ? Il fut construit
entre 1710 et 1711 sur un immeuble plus ancien appartenant à la bourgeoisie
de Monthey. Au premier étage, une des pièces servait de salle de tir à la Confrérie
de la Cible (l’ancêtre de la Société des Carabiniers) ce qui compensait la perte
du local qu’elle entretenait dans l’ancien bâtiment. L’hôpital offrait l’hébergement
aux pèlerins et aux passants. Il prenait soin de la santé des malades, des indigents
de la commune ou étrangers. Dans le courant du 19 e et au tout début du 20 e siècle,
l’édifice fut le siège de l’école primaire des filles et ceci jusqu’à la construction
du collège de l’Avenue de la Gare en 1911. Par rachat de la part bourgeoisiale,
l’immeuble devint propriété intégrale de la commune qui en fit son Hôtel de Ville.
Les plans et travaux de restauration de l’édifice furent confiés à l’architecte Gribi.
Nous lui devons, entre autres, l’entrée actuelle surmontée d’un balcon reposant
sur deux colonnes. Le nouvel aménagement fut terminé en automne 1923.
THE TOWN HALL
Who would have thought that the town hall used to house the local hospital ?
The building was built between 1710 and 1711 at the site of an even older building
which belonged to the Monthey bourgeoisie. One of the rooms on the first floor
was used as a shooting gallery for the target shooting confraternity (the former
carabineers’ company) to compensate them for the loss of their premises in the old
building. The hospital provided accommodation to pilgrims and passers-by.
It also looked after the sick and destitute from the local community or elsewhere.
During the course of the 19th century and at the start of the 20th, the building
served as the headquarters for a girls’ primary school and remained so until the
construction of the school on Avenue de la Gare in 1911.
The community took over the part owned by the bourgeoisie and used it as
the town hall. The plans and restoration work on the building were entrusted to
the architect Gribi. The current entrance topped with a balcony resting on two
columns is his work. The new design was completed in the autumn of 1923.
DAS RATHAUS
Wer hätte geahnt, dass in diesem Rathaus einst das lokale Krankenhaus untergebracht war ? Es wurde zwischen 1710 und 1711 auf einem ehemaligen Besitz der
Bürger von Monthey errichtet. Im ersten Stock wurde einer der Räume von der
Bruderschaft Confrérie de la Cible (ehemals : Société des Carabiniers) als Schiesshalle genutzt, als Ersatz der früher benutzten Räume im alten Gebäude. Das Krankenhaus bot sowohl Pilgern als auch Reisenden Obdach. Ausserdem kümmerte
man sich dort um das Wohlergehen von Kranken, Bedürftigen der Gemeinde oder
Fremden. Während des 19. und ganz zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts war in diesem
Gebäude die Mädchen-Grundschule ansässig, und dies bis zur Errichtung des
Gymnasiums «Collège de l’Avenue de la Gare» im Jahr 1911. Durch den Rückkauf
des im Besitz der Bürger befindlichen Teils wurde das Gebäude Gesamteigentum
der Gemeinde, die es zu ihrem Rathaus machte. Die Restaurierungspläne und
arbeiten am Gebäude wurden dem Architekten Gribi anvertraut. Diesem Architekten verdanken wir unter anderem den derzeitigen Eingang, der mit einem
von zwei Säulen getragenen Balkon überspannt ist. Die neue Anordnung wurde
im Herbst 1923 fertig gestellt.

LA CHAPELLE NOTRE-DAME DU PONT
En 1490, François Consilii, bourgeois de Monthey, fonde et fait bâtir la Chapelle
Notre-Dame du Pont sur la rive droite de la Vièze, dont le tracé, à l’époque,
contournait la colline du Châteauvieux et empruntait l’actuelle Rue des Granges.
En 1651, la Chapelle subit l’assaut des eaux qui la laissèrent dans un triste état.
Au courant de 1673, Anne Summermatter, épouse du gouverneur Antoine
Lambien ainsi que Marie Madeleine Du Fay, épouse de Jean Devantéry, la firent
reconstruire à leurs frais sur la rive gauche de la rivière, approximativement à
l’emplacement actuel. La Chapelle résista vaillamment aux inondations de 1726
et 1733, mais n’en sortit pas indemne. Menacée de ruine, elle fut démolie au
printemps 1775, et totalement rebâtie. C’est l’édifice que nous admirons encore
de nos jours. On prêtera une attention particulière au magnifique cèdre de
l’Atlas qui siège sur la gauche de l’entrée.
THE CHAPEL OF NOTRE-DAME DU PONT
In 1490, François Consilii, bourgeois citizen of Monthey, established and built
the Chapel of Notre-Dame du Pont on the right bank of the Vièze, which, at that
time, flowed around the Châteauvieux hill and followed the current Rue des
Granges. The Chapel was flooded in 1651 and became derelict. During 1673, Anne
Summermatter, spouse of the governor Antoine Lambien and Marie Madeleine
Du Fay, wife of Jean Devantéry, rebuilt the Chapel on the left bank of the river,
close to its current site, out of their own expense. The Chapel valiantly withstood
the floods of 1726 and 1733 but did not escape unscathed. Facing the threat of
ruin, it was demolished in spring 1775 and completely rebuilt. This is the building
we see today. The magnificent Atlas cedar to the left of the entrance merits
particular attention.

Im Jahr 1490 stiftete und errichtete François Consilii, Bürger von Monthey,
die Kapelle Notre-Dame du Pont am rechten Ufer des Flusses Vièze, der damals
um den Hügel Châteauvieux und in der heutigen Rue des Granges verlief. Im Jahr
1651 wurde die Kapelle Opfer der Fluten, die sie in einem traurigen Zustand
hinterliessen. Im Laufe des Jahres 1673 liessen Anne Summermatter, Ehefrau von
Gouverneur Antoine Lambien, sowie Marie Madeleine Du Fay, Ehefrau von Jean
Devantéry, die Kapelle auf eigene Kosten am linken Flussufer, ungefähr an ihrem
heutigen Standort, wieder aufbauen. Die Kapelle überstand die Überschwemmungen in den Jahren 1726 und 1733 tapfer, behielt jedoch Schäden davon zurück.
Als sie einzustürzen drohte, wurde sie im Frühjahr 1775 abgerissen und vollkommen
neu errichtet. Und dies ist das Gebäude, das wir heute noch bewundern können.
Besondere Aufmerksamkeit sei der prächtigen Atlas-Zeder gewidmet, die sich links
neben dem Eingang zur Kapelle befindet.

La Bavette propose une saison de théâtre jeune public au P’tit Théâtre de la Vièze.
Créée en 1990 dans le but d’animer cet espace intime et charmant de 105 places,
la Bavette offre aux familles une programmation de qualité qui allie différents
arts de la scène tels que les marionnettes, le théâtre, la chanson, le cirque
et la danse. La Bavette accueille majoritairement des compagnies suisses et
cherche à favoriser la création, en participant chaque année à la coproduction
d’un spectacle.

Le Pont Rouge est la plus grande salle de musique actuelle du Valais. Elle peut
accueillir 350 personnes. Sa programmation va de la chanson française au metal
en passant par le rock progressif, l’électro et de multiples styles de musique
qui raviront tous les publics.
LA GALERIE DU CROCHETAN
La Galerie du Crochetan est un espace destiné essentiellement à la photographie
contemporaine. En organisant quatre à cinq expositions par année, son but
est d’offrir au public une programmation de qualité, composée à la fois d’artistes
suisses et internationaux.
The Pont Rouge is the largest musical concert hall in Valais. It can welcome
350 people. Its programme ranges from French music to metal, progressive rock,
electronic and various other styles of music to impress a broad audience.
The Galerie du Crochetan is a place aimed essentially at contemporary photography.

La Médiathèque offre un lieu de lecture et de détente pour les Montheysans
et leurs hôtes. Ouverte au public en 1943, la Bibliothèque communale est
devenue Médiathèque de Monthey lors de son aménagement dans le bâtiment
de la rue du Fay, en octobre 1997. Cette institution reconnue ambitionne

Les Montheysans cultivent une ambiance où il fait bon vivre et un état d’esprit
festif. Vieux de plus de 650 ans, le sympathique marché du mercredi « Demècre
à Montà» est le seul en Suisse à exister depuis le Moyen Âge sans interruption.
Il fait partie des traditions bien ancrées de la ville et représente un vrai lieu
de rencontre, d'échange et de retrouvailles, où l’on peut dénicher de nombreux
produits du terroir de qualité.
Tout au long de l’année, la vie montheysanne est rythmée par différents marchés
artisanaux tels que Fartisâna ou le marché de Noël. La Fête de la Musique
attire quant à elle plus de 10 000 personnes sur un week-end. Un événement
d’envergure qui rassemble par sa programmation éclectique. Carnaval est
également l’un des événements annuels incontournables de la région, centenaire
et figurant parmi les plus importants de Suisse romande. L’International Chablais
Hockey Trophy, le mini-triathlon ou la course féminine «La Montheysanne »
figurent parmi les manifestations sportives récurrentes de la ville.
The people of Monthey promote good living and festivity. Dating back 650 years,
the charming Wednesday market « Demècre à Montà » is the only market in
Switzerland to have been running continuously since the Middle Ages. It forms
part of the town’s well-established traditions and represents a place to meet and
exchange ideas where various top quality local products can be found.
Throughout the year, the pace of life in Monthey is set by various craft markets
such as the Fartisâna or Christmas market. The Music festival attracts in excess
of 10 000 people in just one weekend. This large-scale event appeals to a broad
range of people due to its eclectic programme. The Monthey Carnival is also one of
the region’s key annual events dating back over 100 years and is one of the most
important Carnival festivities in French-speaking Switzerland. The International
Chablais Hockey Trophy, mini-triathlon and «La Montheysanne» race for women
also feature among the town’s ongoing sporting events.

Die Einwohner von Monthey schaffen eine Atmosphäre, in der es sich gut leben
lässt und die zum Feiern einlädt. Mit seinem stolzen Alter von mehr als 650 Jahren
ist der sympathische Mittwoch-Wochenmarkt «Demècre à Montà » der einzige
Markt in der Schweiz, den es ohne Unterbrechung seit dem Mittelalter gibt.
Dieser Markt ist Teil der tief verwurzelten Traditionen der Stadt und ein wahrer
Treffpunkt und Ort des Austauschens und Wiedersehens, an dem man zahlreiche
Qualitätsprodukte der Region ausfindig machen kann.
Das ganze Jahr über wird der Lebensrhythmus von Monthey bestimmt durch
verschiedene handwerkliche Märkte, wie etwa die Fartisâna oder der Weihnachtsmarkt. Allein die Musikfest zieht mehr als 10 000 Besucher an einem Wochenende
an. Eine aufwendige Veranstaltung, zu der die Menschen wegen ihrer eklektischen
Programmgestaltung kommen. Der mehr als hundertjährige Karneval gehört
ebenfalls zu den unumgänglichen Ereignissen der Region und ist ausserdem eine
der grössten Veranstaltungen in der Romandie. Die International Chablais Hockey
Trophy, der Mini-Triathlon oder der Frauenlauf «La Montheysanne »
gehören zu den immer wieder durchgeführten Sportveranstaltungen der Stadt.

Monthey is packed with fascinating highlights: the stained glass trail in the
town centre, the water trail and the educational erratic boulders trail lead you
to the heart of the town and its heights/surrounding hills, offering magnificent
panoramic views. If you are curious-minded, you can meet the town archivist
to take a walk through the streets and be told of surprising historical tales !
Set off from the banks of the Rhône, stroll along the banks of the Vièze and cross
the Old Bridge to reach the heights of Monthey, Choëx and Les Giettes.
Whether by bike or on foot, it will take just a few minutes to go from gentle
walks in the lowlands to Alpine hikes.
Monthey bietet Aussergewöhnliches in Hülle und Fülle: der Kirchenfenster-Weg

um dann die Anhöhen von Monthey, Choëx schliesslich Les Giettes zu erklimmen.
In nur wenigen Minuten gehen Sie – ob zu Fuss oder mit dem Velo – von leichten
Spaziergängen in der Ebene zu alpinen Wanderungen über.

LES BLOCS ERRATIQUES
Sur les hauts de Monthey, le glacier du Rhône a laissé de nombreux blocs
de granit. Le plus grand d’entre eux est la Pierre des Marmettes, juste à côté de
l'hôpital de Monthey, point de départ de cette randonnée. Elle rejoint ensuite
la Pierre à Dzo, magnifique mégalithe défiant les lois de la gravité. En traversant
ensuite le parcours VITA, on trouve la Pierre à Muguet et en continuant
le chemin en direction de Collombey, on découvre finalement le bloc Studer
qui clôt cette promenade.

ERRATIC BOULDERS
Up in the heights of Monthey, the Rhône glacier has deposited various granite
blocks. The biggest is the Pierre des Marmettes alongside the Monthey
hospital and at the departure point for this walk. The trail then passes the Pierre
à Dzo, a magnificent megalith which defies the laws of gravity. Crossing the
VITA trail will lead you to the Pierre à Muguet and further along the route towards
Collombey, you will come across the Bloc Studer at the end of the walk.

DIE FINDLINGE
Auf den Anhöhen von Monthey hat der Rhone-Gletscher zahlreiche Granitblöcke
hinterlassen. Der Grösste unter ihnen ist der Pierre des Marmettes, der direkt
neben dem Krankenhaus von Monthey, dem Ausgangspunkt dieser Wanderung,
liegt. Zu diesem Findling gesellt sich später der Pierre à Dzo, ein gigantischer
Megalith, der den Gesetzen der Schwerkraft trotzt. Anschliessend überqueren Sie
den Trimm-Dich-Pfad und stossen auf den Pierre à Muguet, setzen Ihren Weg
in Richtung Collombey fort, wo man schliesslich den Bloc Studer findet,
der den Abschluss dieses Spaziergangs darstellt.

Ce chemin réalisé en 1996 par la Paroisse Catholique de Monthey et composé
de 14 croix, vous mènera du centre-ville de Monthey jusqu'aux Giettes. Arrivés au
sommet, vous pourrez apprécier une vue imprenable sur les Alpes environnantes,
la plaine du Rhône et le Lac Léman.

This trail was established in 1996 by the Catholic Parish of Monthey and consists
of 14 crosses. It leads from the centre of Monthey to Les Giettes. Once at the top,

Lake Geneva.

Conçu pour allier écologie et luxe, les pods constituent une forme d’hébergement
unique. Raccordé à l’eau de source, chauffé au poêle à bois, un pod (tente géodésique de 40 m2) dispose de tout le confort d’un hôtel : salle de bain avec douche
et WC, grande terrasse avec chaises longues, vue imprenable sur les Alpes et le Lac
Léman. Hiver comme été, ce lieu idyllique offre des activités pour toute la famille :
randonnées sportives, excursions éducatives, stages photo, vol en parapente,
chien de traineau, cours de cuisine sauvage…
The pods are designed to combine ecology and luxury and are a unique form of
accommodation. They are connected to a water spring and heated using a wood
stove. The pods (40 m2 geodesic tent) offer all the comforts of a hotel : a bathroom

von 40 m2) ist ausgestattet mit einem Quellwasseranschluss sowie einem Holzfeuerofen und bietet denselben Komfort wie ein Hotel : Badezimmer mit Dusche
und WC, grosse Terrasse mit Liegestühlen, uneinnehmbarer Blick auf die Alpen und
den Genfersee. Im Winter wie im Sommer bietet dieser idyllische Ort Aktivitäten
für die ganze Familie an sportliche– und didaktische Wanderungen, Photo-Workshops,
Gleitschirmfliegen, Hundeschlittentouren, Kochkurs «Die wilde Küche » usw...

is the ideal place for walking, skiing or snow shoe walks. Walk to the Buvette de
Chindonne, a stop on the famous Tour des Dents-du-Midi. And for anyone feeling
courageous, the descent can be completed as a tandem paraglide !

Monthey is located less than 20 minutes from one of the biggest ski resorts
in the world for over 40 years: the Portes du Soleil. The ideal place for snow sports
enthusiasts. The Portes du Soleil ski resort comprises 12 linked villages and
resorts between France and Switzerland as well as 286 ski slopes, 11 snow parks
in winter and in summer, access to 650 km of mountain biking trails and 800 km
of footpaths thanks to the extensive cable car network. Exceptional panoramic
