COMITE TECHNIQUE NATIONAL DE L’INSPECTION DANS L’INDUSTRIE CHIMIQUE Technical Guideline for the design, procurement and construction of Equipment and piping made of laminated Glass Reinforced Plastics (GRP) and reinforced ThermoPlastic Material (TPM + GRP) (Formerly UIC Safety Book/Specification No. 7) DT 15 - Revision 1 September 2013 UNION DES INDUSTRIES CHIMIQUES 14, rue de la République 92800 PUTEAUX CTNIIC 14, rue de la république 92800 PUTEAUX 1/62 NOTICE This technical document should not be considered exhaustive. Established in good faith, it must be used as a guide which in each individual case must be completed or adapted and verified. The Chemical Industry Association (UIC) and the National Technical Committee of Inspection in the Chemical Industry (CTNIIC) does not endorse responsibility for the manner in which this document will be used. It reflects the state of scientific and technological knowledge at the time it was written. 2/62 COMITE TECHNIQUE NATIONAL DE L’INSPECTION DANS L’INDUSTRIE CHIMIQUE Technical Guideline for the design, procurement and construction of Equipment and piping made of laminated Glass Reinforced Plastics (GRP) and reinforced ThermoPlastic Material (TPM + GRP) (Formerly UIC Safety Book/Specification No. 7) DT 15 - Revision 1 September 2013 3/62 4/62 WARNING The use of thermosetting and ThermoPlastic resins in the Chemical Industry has known for over twenty years a rapid expansion and this experience precedes much of the publishing of national and international codes applicable in the design, calculation and construction of reinforced plastics Equipment. THE French UNION OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES (UIC), dedicated to improving the safety of these Equipment has published in February 1986, revised in 1988 and 1990, a code of good construction practices (Formerly UIC Safety Book/Specification No. 7), with the collaboration of representatives from the following companies: • ATOCHEM / ORKEM / RHONE-POULENC / SOLVAY & Cie As well as representatives of the General Union of the reinforced Plastic Industry (SGIPA) and the following Manufacturers: • SAPS / MURGUE-SEIGLE / CARLIER / CITP / CORD France / HERMEX / SODIPIA / SOVAP / S3P This new 2013 edition, while relying on the most recent codes and standards, is established in good faith and incorporates experience gained in the last 20 years from the following chemical companies: • ARKEMA / VENCOREX / RHODIA / SOLVAY SA / TOTAL. Different stakeholders (Suppliers, Manufacturers, inspection bodies) also contributed to the development of this revision. The recommendations of this guideline are the result of the synthesis of the provisions adopted by the largest, well established chemical companies. They provide a basis beyond which everyone can choose. They do not replace national and international regulations, and they intend to fully comply with. They should not be used as a single document but as a guide which will, in each case, be completed by the provisions contained in the Purchaser’s specification. This text can be updated in the future to reflect changes in technology and technical progress. 5/62 6/62 INDEX Summary
