Untitled - Swiss Plastics Cluster
CONTINUOUS TRAINING 2015
CLUSTER
The Swiss Plastics Cluster acts as an indispensable regional platform for organizations in the industry, serves as
a key reference for plastics technology in Switzerland and increasingly engages on a European level.
NETWORKING
PROMOTING THE EXCHANGE AMONG PARTNERS
The cluster actively promotes an exchange among its members and participates in associations and platforms
in the field of plastics technology to enhance the visibility of its cluster members as well as of the cluster organization itself. Besides, vital contacts are established with competence centers and clusters in various European
countries from which cluster members can actively benefit from.
TOWARDS NEW HORIZONS IN EUROPE
From the very start the Swiss Plastics Cluster pursued an international orientation and engaged in activities
abroad in order to keep its members up to date on current advances in research on a European level and to
expand their members’ network beyond the borders of Switzerland. Accordingly, the cluster initially forged
partnerships with clusters in neighboring countries which in return allowed the cluster to become a member of
the European meta-cluster ALPlastics and to participate in the Interreg project ALPS4EU in which the Science
and Technology Hub of the Canton of Fribourg joint as a full member. Thanks to the established relations with
European partners the cluster was able to organize international high-level conferences in the years 2011, 2012
and 2013. Similar events are envisioned also in the future.

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY
JOINT PROJECTS
Organizations and universities of applied sciences align for applied research projects which are in large financed
by the Innovation and Technology Hub Fribourg. The Swiss Plastics Cluster accompanies these projects during
its inception phase, assists with the search of partners and funds and provides advice with regards to intellectual property rights. Joint projects feature the following two research focuses:
– Thermoplastic polymers and their processes
– Productivity and cost control
Information on current and past joint projects are available here: swissplastics-cluster.ch/en/services/projects/

BUSINESS COOPERATION
CHF 600.-
The Swiss Plastics Cluster acts as organizing committee of the fair Swiss Plastics, actively promotes the plastics industry in Western Switzerland and serves as its spokesperson.

CONTINUOUS EDUCATION PLASTICS TECHNOLOGY
A working group entitled “Specialist in synthetic materials“ (ATMS in French) belonging to the Swiss Plastics
Cluster is in the process of writing a business plan for the creation of a training center that will be located at
blueFACTORY which is situated only ten minutes walk from the central railway station in Fribourg. The training
center will make use of the laboratories of the Institute of Applied Research for Plastic Materials (iRAP) which
belongs to the University of Applied Science Western Switzerland: Fribourg. The laboratory will be moving in
summer of 2015 to the site of the blueFACTORY as part of the INNOSQUARE project promoted by the University
of Applied Science Western Switzerland: Fribourg. The new center intends to offer courses for the education
of apprentices for companies throughout Western Switzerland. A workshop to be held during 2015 will bring
together those companies that are interested in this service and will present the project and its objectives.
HUMAN RESSOURCES
COMPETENCE PROMOTION OF EMPLOYEES
The Swiss Plastics Cluster organizes its own continuous training modules which embrace the specific needs
of cluster members in the field of injection molding and extrusion (see program 2015). Course contents focus
among others on topics such as polymers, injection molding machines, molds, conception and construction
rules, quality of injection molding …
