President’s Message
The Winter Holiday Party, organized by Ann Harvey, SCA, Director of Communications was
a lovely event with good food and fellowship! I was happy to present the slide show of the
works of our newest members which Kathy Hildebrandt, SCA, Director of Membership
prepared. Seven very deserving artists were elected, two of whom, Shelley Beach, SCA, and
Barry Dicks, SCA, were in attendance. The audience of peers clapped heartily for all the new
members. Many participated in the miniature exchange. Thank you to Angela Hennessey,
SCA, for again matting the paintings and running the draw.
I was recently back in Toronto for the weekend and attended a talk about Kenojuak Ashevak,
at the AGO presented by Ortansa Moraru, SCA, Social Media Director. I marvel at the talent
we have in the SCA, artists developing their careers, and dedicated to promoting art in
Canada. Your Board and Reps just had the first conference call of the New Year and it was
exciting hearing all the reports. Steve Wilson, SCA, Director of Exhibitions is putting the
finishing touches on the entry forms for the upcoming Open Juried and Member shows.
Tatianna O’Donnell, SCA, our Western Rep., is helping Steve with the Salmon Arm Show.
Both entry forms will soon be available on the website. Steve will retire from the Board at
our AGM in June. Who would like to take on the role of leading the Exhibitions Standing
Committee? Please contact me if you can serve in this important role.
Our Webmaster, Ann Kruzelecky, Associate, keeps the website up to date and adds
improvements such as Paypal. She works harder than I do. Kelly Borgers, SCA, is creating
a Society of Canadian Artists Facebook Group. All SCA Elected and Associate Members who
use Facebook will soon be able to join this group and post their upcoming shows, courses,
awards, or ask art questions or participate in discussions. This will make our large country
seem smaller as we connect coast to coast to coast. Iris Boyd-Cherian, Associate, is adding
the SCA to Wikipedia. If any members have documentation such as Newspaper articles to
substantiate our history, please contact Iris. I have only given a taste of the work being done
for the SCA but would like to thank all the Directors, Chairpersons and Regional
Representatives on your behalf. I look forward to seeing this newsletter. It will be the first
for our new Editor, Marissa Sweet, SCA. Enjoy a creative year everyone.
Josy Britton, SCA, President

discussion.
