The Master has duration of two years and it delivers both the diplomas of Research and Professional Master. The Master is obtained once the student has gained de 120 ECTS during the four semesters (30 ECTS per semester). The courses (UE) can be fundamental or optional. All the UE of this semester have 3 ECTS. Structural Stability ECTS Finite elements 1 6 Solid mechanics 6 CAD of mechanical systems 6 Civil Engineering Structures Vibrations 6 Advanced Structural Optimisation Incompressible fluid mechanics 3 Petroleum Engineering Acoustics 3 Short Finite Element Project English Professional Insertion Fluid-Structure Interactions Optional Composite Materials Obbligatori Opzionali Innovating Materials Contact Assemblies: Modeling and Design* Semester 2 Careers opportunities They concern mainly the fields of civil engineering, oil companies, aerospace industries, automotive companies, development of software and the research, academic and industrial. Material Mechanics UE DSME characteristics The main scope of the Master DSME is to form experts in the fields of modern structural and materials mechanics. The educational programme is much concerned with the structural theories and computational methods, the mechanical theories for the analysis and optimal design of structures and innovating materials, fluid-structure interactions, civil and offshore structural engineering. A wide part of the programme is devoted to the teaching of the finite element method and to the training of students with academic and industrial finite element codes (CAST3M, ASTER, ZEBULON, ABAQUS), with 2 theoretical courses, 2 projects and 2 training courses, all along the four semesters of the Master. The goal is to form experts in the use of finite element codes, able to tackle the modern industrial problems and for the jobs in the field of software engineering as well as for research. The several optional courses of DSME allow students to direct themselves towards different professional fields: civil engineering, offshore engineering, mechanical engineering, modern and smart materials, software engineering for mechanical problems. An Erasmus agreement allows students to pass the second semester at the Department of Structural Engineering of the Politecnico of Milan (Italy). Finite Elements 2 Fundamental Semester 1 UE Non-linear Dnamics and Seismic Engineering* UE ECTS Aerodynamics 6 Theory of structures 6 Applications of finite elements 3 Advanced models in solid mechanics 3 Variational calculus in mechanics 3 English 3 Semester 4 Introduction to structural optimization 3 Industrial training period (8 weeks) 6 Coupled testing: measures and procedures* 3 Professional Master: • A finite element project, 1 month, 6 ECTS. • Industrial training period, 6 monthes, 24 ECTS.
