For the Second World War, a new version of "Normandy/D-Day/6 June 1944" is also planned, to commemorate 70 years since the landings. In addition to these maps on historical themes, the IGN catalogue is bursting with maps dedicated to outdoor activities. Following the expansion of the TOP 75 series, which combines a general 1:75,000 map with five extracts from 1:25,000 hiking maps, IGN has developed a brand new collection of TOP 25R maps. Printed on laminated, waterproof and tear-proof paper, the TOP 25R is the ideal map for enjoying outdoor activities in all weather conditions. As you flick through our 2014 catalogue, we hope you will find products to help you on your journeys in France and worldwide this year, the tricentenary of the birth of César-François Cassini de Thury, better known as Cassini III, the father of the eponymous map, and founder of French topographic mapmaking, of which IGN is the worthy heir. Regional maps 1 cm = 2.5 km A contour is an imaginary line that links all the points located at the same height above sea-level. • On IGN maps, relief is represented by orange contour lines. • For travel by bicycle, 1:100,000 maps are ideal because they provide information about both major and secondary roads, as well as tourist information. TOP 100 maps 1 cm = 1 km • For exploring a region on foot, 1:25,000 maps are best if you want enough information to hike safely (contour lines, buildings, footpaths and tracks, vegetation, refuges, etc.). The closer together they are, the steeper the gradient. The further apart they are, the gentler the gradient. • Height above sea-level is generally shown on the thicker, so-called master contour lines. TOP 25 maps 1 cm = 250 m • Contour lines are separated by a difference in height that we call "equidistance". Contour lines appear in TOP 25, TOP 25R, Série Bleue and TOP 100 maps. notes P.55 IGN Catalogue 2014 ign.fr institut national de l’information géographique et forestière 73 Avenue de Paris 94165 Saint-Mandé Cedex +33 (0)1 43 98 80 00 IGN customer service same address [email protected] geoportail.gouv.fr Retailer's stamp www.facebook.com/ignfr © IGN / ISBN 978-2-7585-3169-2 / 2013 / Ref.105 / CATGP2014ANG ign.fr geoportail.gouv.fr Free
