FPT Industrial is present at Intermat (Paris, April 16 – 21, Pavilion 5A, stand J
144) with its full range of Tier 4 Final/Stage IV engines for construction
applications. The booth of the Italian company, one of the most important
producers of engines for industrial applications, is located inside a 3,600sqm
exhibition area totally dedicated to the Fiat Industrial Group.
The FPT industrial offer in the construction sector is based on the F5, NEF and
CURSOR engine families, ranging from 40 to 500 kW (55 – 680 HP). The
technological excellence and lean design of these products result, for the
customer, in top performance, low operating costs and high reliability.
To comply with the forthcoming Tier 4 Final/Stage IV regulations on emissions,
FPT Industrial’s choice is the “SCR-Only” technology for engines in off-road
applications.
Thanks to combustion optimization and development in the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, the new engines will occupy a leadership position in terms of
efficiency, robustness and quality, whilst at the same time improving its
environmental impact. FPT Industrial has achieved a reduction of more than 95%
of NOx emissions, thanks to the implementation of a specifically developed
software in combination with the High Efficiency SCR after-treatment hardware.

FPT INDUSTRIAL PRESENTS ITS FULL RANGE OF TIER 4 FINAL/STAGE IV
ENGINES FOR CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS AT INTERMAT 2012.
Also in this approach, the absence of the DPF filter, in line with our aftertreatment philosophy, allows for reduced maintenance costs and easier
integration of the powertrain.
Diesel engines, because of the chemistry of combustion, produce pollutants like
NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and Particulate (PM) that are damaging the environment.
The possible strategies for reducing them are:
- A combination of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) together with
DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and SCR (Selective Catalytic
Reduction).
- A combination of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) together with
DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and SCR (Selective Catalytic
Reduction).
- A combination of DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and SCR
(Selective Catalytic Reduction).
The use of the EGR system reduces the NOx emissions in the combustion
chamber, through exhaust gas recirculation with a consequential increase in the
production of particulate, a reduction in combustion efficiency and the need for a
a DOC or DPF.
FPT Industrial has chosen instead to increase the engine efficiency and reduce
the particulate produced by the combustion, due to the absence of recirculated
exhaust gasses. NOx is then reduced in the exhaust system, thanks to the High
Efficiency SCR System, while improving fuel consumption, performance and
reliability.
FPT Industrial's High Efficiency SCR is able to reduce the NOx levels more than
95%, without having to resort to other systems, such as EGR.
The system is composed of:
- The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)
- The AdBlue dosing module.
- The AdBlue mixer
- The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)
- The Clean Up Catalyst (CUC)
The whole system is fitted with a network of integrated sensors to control the
NOx and any excess of NH3 (ammonia) emitted.

the use of NOx and ammonia sensors to provide accurate information on

hydrolysis of urea and correct distribution in exhaust gas flow.
Improved thermal management to speed up SCR light-off in the cold part

The F5 series, a 4 cylinder, 3,4 liter Common Rail engine, featuring a
compact layout and a customer oriented design, stands out for low
operating costs and extremely easy maintenance thanks to single engine
side servicing. These benefits are combined with excellent performance,
which allows these engines to be used for the most demanding missions
(e.g. high engine inclination, cold starting at temperatures down to -25°C).

The NEF Series includes a 4,5 liter engine with four cylinders and a 6,7
liter engine with six cylinders; they cover a power range from 75 to 210

The “SCR-Only” technology sees the introduction of a new generation aftertreatment system that is the result of extensive research by FPT Industrial,
research that has led to the creation of numerous significant patents for:

The 6 cylinder CURSOR series is available in 8,7 and 12,9 liter versions
and covers a power range from 245 to 500 kW (333 – 680 HP). The
CURSOR Series is the right choice for customers requiring high power,
fast load response, high power density together with maximum
robustness and reliability. Superior performance comes also along with
low operating cost. Thanks to continuous research and development
activities, the CURSOR Series adopts the most advanced technologies,
such as a second generation heavy duty Common Rail injection system,
guaranteeing pressures up to 2200 bar. FPT Industrial is present at
Intermat with a C9 and a C13 engine.

The Power Generation offer of FPT industrial includes engines, G-drives,
standard gensets (covering the main applications, such as emergency services
and self-generation), special groups, plants and after sales services.
The line-up is based on the F5, NEF and CURSOR series, ranging from 30 to
400 kVA.
FPT Industrial has extended its product portfolio with a wide offer of customized
configurations. They are completed with either open or closed power sets
equipped with sub-frames, electrical machinery and control panels.
