haron Shannon comes from Clare on the West coast of Ireland, an area
historically steeped in music. She began playing music as a young child and
while still in her teens was asked by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, The Field) to
provide the music for his stage production of Behan’s The Hostage. She began her
solo recording career in l989. The Waterboys’ producer, John Dunford, gathered
together a wide variety of musicians including Donal Lunny, Philip King, Mary
Custy, U2’s Adam Clayton, Steve Wickham, and Mike Scott. Shortly after this
Mike asked Sharon to join him in The Waterboys. In 1996 Sharon became amongst
a host of international musicians, Bono and Adam Clayton, Kate Bush, Christy
Moore and Sinead O’Connor to appear on the EMI album «Common Ground».
Sharon is a traditional musician in the loosest sense of the word, her influences
are all ‘traditional’ but from various parts of the globe - Reggae, Breton, Cajun,
Gypsy and Scandinavian are just some of the sounds you will hear on any of
Sharon’s eclectic albums.

haron Shannon est l’une des musiciennes les plus douées d’Irlande, la plus
douée en ce qui concerne son instrument de prédilection : l’accordéon
diatonique. Co-fondatrice du groupe Arcady, elle débute rapidement une
carrière solo, sort son 1er album en 1989, avec la collaboration de pointures de
la musique irlandaise, comme Donal Lunny, Philip King, Mary Custy, Adam Clayton
de U2, Steve Wickham, Mike Scott des Waterboys. En 1990 elle fait partie des
Waterboys, avec lesquelles elle sort un album. Elle remporte son premier grand
succès en 1991 avec l’album « Sharon Shannon ». Mais c’est en participant en
1992 à l’album « Woman’s Heart », un des plus grand succès de tous les temps en
Irlande, que Sharon Shannon accèdera au rang de star en Irlande. Elle fait partie
des artistes les plus attachantes d’Irlande, qui par ses talents de producteur et
d’arrangeur remporte un succès incontestable et a atteint un niveau de notoriété
internationale.
