Disinfection of Caleo Incubator with Sanivap SP400
The relevance of infection prevention in the hospital has continuously increased over the past few
years and it has become a major focus for our customers. Dräger’s goal is to provide support for
all infection prevention aspects for each and every one of our products. Thus Dräger is looking for
new reprocessing methods that are compatible with our products and help reduce the use of
aggressive disinfectants, especially for the most precious patients in Neonatal Care.
Here we would like to inform you that the Steam Generator SP400 from Sanivap, a French
manufacturer, may be used for the disinfection of the neonatal incubator Caleo. Sanivap SP400's
reprocessing method with hot steam was validated by an external hygiene institute which proved
the effectiveness of the reprocessing method with the Caleo. The test results show that the
reduction of germs with hot steam fulfills the required reduction rate of 5 log-levels. However, the
procedure must be conducted exactly as described in the instruction for use for SP400.
According to the manufacturer Sanivap, the SP400 biocleaning system can be used for the
disinfection of different kinds of surfaces, including floors, furniture and medical devices. SP400
produces constant steam quality to ensure effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection. The device
comes with a boiler which includes a water tank. A wide range of accessories for versatility in
terms of use are available. Special steam nozzles and a microfiber cloth are needed for standard
use.
Sanivap SP400 is certified according to CE LNE-GMED 0459.

For the validation of the efficiency of steam disinfection with SP400 on the neonatal incubator
Caleo, 11 different surfaces including the fan wheel, basic device, handport, handport opener,
grommet, rotary knob, drawer, air channel, SoftBed and others were identified and contaminated
with a standard test suspension of germs and proteins. Then the surfaces were disinfected with
the Sanivap SP400 and the contact nozzle SV110 with its microfiber cloth MV225 according to the
Sanivap instruction for use. It is important to follow the described steps exactly to ensure the
correct steam temperature of 95°C is reached and thus providing effective steam disinfection. As
a next step, the test surfaces were dried with a microfiber cloth. Then the remaining germ count
was determined. For statistical reasons, the test on each surface was repeated three times. The
results show that steam disinfection with SP400 fulfills the reduction rate of 5 log-levels as
required by DIN EN ISO 15883.
After evaluation of the test results, Dräger rates the hot steam disinfection functionality of the
Sanivap SP400 acceptable in terms of efficiency for use with of the incubator Caleo.
Dedicated application training provided by the manufacturer Sanivap instructing how to use the
SP400 on Caleo is highly recommended. For every disinfection procedure the instruction for use
of SP400 must be followed exactly to ensure the correct steam temperature of 95°C and thus
effective steam disinfection.

Désinfection des incubateurs CALEO avec le dispositif vapeur SANIVAP SP400
L’importance de la prévention des infections dans les Etablissements hospitaliers s’est constamment accrue au
cours des années passées et cette prévention est devenue un souci majeur pour nos clients.
L’objectif de DRÄGER est de de contribuer à tous les aspects de la prévention des infections pour chacun des
produits de nos gammes. Ainsi DRÄGER recherche des nouvelles méthodes d’entretien compatibles avec nos
équipements et qui permettent de réduire l’utilisation de produits chimiques désinfectants, en particulier pour les
patients les plus sensibles en soins néonatal.
Nous souhaitons vous informer que le dispositif vapeur SP400 de la société SANIVAP, un fabricant français,
peut être utilisé pour la désinfection des incubateurs de néonatalogie CALEO. La méthode d’entretien SANIVAP
avec le dispositif vapeur SP400 générant une vapeur à haute température a été validée par un institut allemand
indépendant d’hygiène qui a démontré l’efficacité de cette méthode d’entretien sur les incubateurs CALEO. Les
résultats des tests de validation démontrent que la réduction des germes obtenue par la vapeur du SP400
atteint le niveau requis de 5 logs. La procédure de désinfection suivie doit être conforme aux instructions
d’utilisation du SP400 fournies par le fabricant.
Selon le fabricant SANIVAP, le dispositif de bionettoyage vapeur SP400 peut être utilisé pour la désinfection de
différents types de surfaces incluant : environnement patient (sols, meubles…) et dispositifs médicaux. Le
dispositif SP400 produit une vapeur de qualité constante pour assurer en permanence son efficacité de
nettoyage et de désinfection. Le dispositif comprend une chaudière et un réservoir d’eau. La large gamme
d’accessoires disponible assure la versatilité d’utilisations possibles. Une buse spécialement conçue et un tissu
microfibre adapté sont nécessaires pour le bionettoyage des incubateurs.
SANIVAP SP400 dispose de la certification CE Dispositif Médical CE LNE-GMED 0459
Pour la validation de l’efficacité de la désinfection vapeur avec le SP400 sur l’incubateur CALEO, 11 différentes
surfaces ont été identifiées et contaminées avec une suspension standard de germes et protéines : hélice de
ventilateur, hublot de main, ouverture de hublot, passe-câble, bouton pivotant, tiroir, gaine d’air, Softbed ….
Ces surfaces ont ensuite été désinfectées avec le SP400 et l’accessoire buse contact SP210 couvert de la
microfibre MV225 selon les instructions d’utilisation fournies par SANIVAP. Il est important de suivre la
procédure d’utilisation correctement pour assurer la température de 95°C de contact de la vapeur avec les
surfaces et ainsi l’efficacité de désinfection. L’humidité résiduelle sur les surfaces a ensuite été séchée avec un
tissu microfibre. Le dénombrement des germes a ensuite été effectué. Pour des raisons statistiques, le test a
été reproduit 3 fois sur chaque surface. Les résultats obtenus démontrent que la désinfection par la vapeur du
SP400 atteint le niveau minimum de 5 logs requis par la norme DIN EN ISO 15883.
Après évaluation des résultats obtenus, DRÄGER juge acceptable la méthode de désinfection par la vapeur du
SANIVAP SP400 en terme d’efficacité de désinfection pour l’utilisation sur les incubateurs CALEO.
Il est fortement recommandé de suivre la formation à l’utilisation du SP400 pour les incubateurs CALEO fournie
par SANIVAP. Pour chaque procédure de désinfection, les instructions d’utilisation du SP400 doivent être
strictement respectées pour assurer la température correcte de la vapeur à 95°C et l’efficacité de désinfection.
