En ma qualité de député de Glengarry-Prescott-Russell,
je félicite le Centre culturel Le Chenail de l’excellent
travail qu’il fait en faisant la promotion des arts et de la
culture au sein de la communauté d’Hawkesbury et ses
environs depuis 40 ans.
Le Chenail a joué un rôle capital en célébrant notre
riche culture locale et en faisant la promotion des
artistes de chez nous.
En tant que protecteur des arts et de la culture de
la circonscription, j’ai le grand plaisir de féliciter Le
Chenail au moment où il célèbre ses 40 ans de succès.

table du conseil, il me fait grand plaisir de célébrer avec
le Centre culturel Le Chenail ses 40 années de diffusion
de la culture à Hawkesbury et dans ses environs à
travers la région de Prescott et Russell.
Pour notre région rurale, Le Chenail est aujourd’hui
devenu plus qu’un centre culturel. Il nous amène des
opportunités, des événements et des expositions ici
dans Prescott et Russell, faites par des gens de chez
nous. C’est un accès local et direct que nos résidents
n’auraient pas autrement.
Le Centre culturel Le Chenail est donc très important
pour notre région en matière d’art visuel et de
musique. Dans le même ordre d’idée, j’aimerais
reconnaitre le service et le travail de son personnel et
de ses bénévoles au cours des 40 dernières années,
afin de promouvoir l’établissement ici et à l’extérieur.
As Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and
Russell and on behalf of my fellow mayors at the council
table, it gives me great pleasure to celebrate along
with Le Chenail Cultural Centre its 40 years of cultural
dissemination both in Hawkesbury and its surrounding
areas across the Prescott and Russell region.
For our rural region, Le Chenail has become more than
a cultural centre. It brings us opportunities, events and
exhibitions right here in Prescott and Russell, created
by people who live and work right here. This is a local
and direct access that our residents would not have
otherwise.
Le Chenail Cultural Centre is very important to our
region in terms of visual art and music. In the same
vein, I would like to recognize the dedication and hard
work of its staff and volunteers over the past 40 years
in helping to promote the organization – both locally
and beyond our borders.

En 1975, un groupe de gens passionnés entreprennent
des démarches pour donner un statut corporatif à leur
organisme connu sous le nom “Le Chenail’. À cet instant
même, qui aurait cru que l’organisme franchirait le cap
de 40 ans de promotion et de diffusion des arts, de la
culture et du patrimoine ?
À quoi peut-on attribué sa résilience, sa pertinence et
delà son importance ? ‘’Le Chenail’’ est un espace qui
répond au besoin fondamental chez l’être humain de se
rassembler. C’est la colle qui tient les gens ensemble
à l’intérieur d’une communauté. C’est un espace sain
qui nourrit la joie de vivre, la création artistique et
le sentiment de mieux-être. Les arts, la culture et le
patrimoine enrichissent le quotidien et colorent notre
vie. Peut-on imaginer vivre en noir et blanc ?
Les activités, les spectacles et les expositions
se démarquent par leur professionalisme, leur
créativité et leur innovation. À l’intérieur d’un vestige
patrimonial, l’espace culturel attend votre visite !

In 1975, a group of passionate people took the necessary
steps to give a corporate status to their organization
known as “Le Chenail ‘’. At that very moment, who
would have thought that this organization would cross
its 40th year of promoting arts, culture and heritage?
To what single factor can we attribute its resiliency, its
relevancy and its importance? ‘Le Chenail’ provides a
forum, which meets the fundamental need for humans
beings to congregate. It is a bonding factor that holds
people together in a community. It is a safe space
that nurtures the joy of living, artistic creation and the
feeling of self-fulfilment. Arts, culture and heritage
enrich and color our daily lives. Can you imagine living
in black and white?
Voici une saison artistique des plus spéciale par ses 40
années de célébration du Centre culturel. La saison 20152016 sera donc une saison de découverte, d’expérience et
d’histoire. Une série de sept (7) spectacles musicaux, quatre
(4) expositions d’artistes visuels de la région, un nouveau
festival pour enfants, une grande exposition du patrimoine,
des ateliers musicaux et de peinture, ainsi qu’une série de
cafés des plus invitantes…
Avec une équipe extraordinaire de bénévoles qui mettent
l’épaule à la grande roue de l’aventure culturelle, cette
programmation ne serait aussi remarquable. Je suis très fière
de faire partie d’une communauté qui a à coeur la découverte
des arts, de la culture et du monde.
La vie artistique est indispensable à toute collectivité.
En font foi tous ceux qui nous soutiennent : la Ville de
Hawkesbury, la Fondation Trillium de l’Ontario, Patrimoine
Canada, la Caisse Desjardins de Hawkesbury, et tous nos
nombreux commanditaires que nous remercions. Enfin vous,
les membres, les abonnés et tous les spectateurs qui avez,
comme nous, le goût d’une vie culturelle dynamique dans
votre communauté.
This year I present to you an artistic season made even more
special because it is the 40th anniversary of the Cultural
centre. The 2015-2016 season will be a year of discoveries,
experiences and history. The year will included; a series of
seven musical shows, four exhibitions of visual artists from
the region, a new festival for children, substantial heritage
exhibit, music, painting workshops and a series of the most
inspiring cafés ...
Without such an extraordinary team of volunteers who put
their shoulders to the wheel of this great cultural adventure,
this programming would not be possible. I am very proud to
be part of a community who care about embracing the arts,
culture and the world they live in.
Our Activities, performances and exhibitions are known for
their professionalism, creativity and innovation. The cultural
ambiance, inside of a historic building awaits your visit!
No future without culture.
The arts are vital to any community. This is evidenced by all
those who support us: the Town of Hawkesbury, the Trillium
Foundation of Ontario, Canadian Heritage, the Caisse Desjardins in Hawkesbury, and all of our many local sponsors to
whom we are forever grateful; and finally you, the members,
the subscribers and all the spectators who have, like us, the
desire and commitment to have a vibrant cultural community

C’est avec plaisir que j’ai accepté la présidence d’honneur des festivités du 40e anniversaire du Chenail. Je me souviens des beaux moments lors de la fondation du Chenail en 1975. Les festivités seront une merveilleuse occasion de se
souvenir des gens qui ont contribué à la naissance de cette belle institution culturelle. Je tiens à souligner les membres
fondateurs lors de l’incorporation: Lise Castonguay, Danielle Martin, Michel Bruneau , André Villeneuve, Murielle Danis,
Florimond Myre, Léo-Paul Myre, Carol Viau, André Sarazin ainsi que moi-même Michel Charbonneau.
It is with great pleasure that I accepted the honorary presidency for the 40th anniversary celebrations of Le Chenail.
I remember the good times when Le Chenail was founded in 1975. The festivities will be a wonderful opportunity to
remember the people who have contributed to the birth of this great cultural institution. I would like to underline the
contributions from the following founders at the time of the incorporation: Lise Castonguay, Danielle Martin, Michel

Yoël est originaire d’Holguin, Cuba, mais au Canada, depuis 1997, il
a partagé la scène avec de nombreux artistes : Arturo Sandoval, Tito
Puente, Eddy Palmieri et Ray Barreto. L’année 2003 a marqué sa
première performance au Festival International de Jazz de Montréal,
y compris le lancement de ses albums, Te llego, Encuentros en 2010
et Origen en 2012. Yoel et son Cuban Jazz Session ont participé
à des festivals à travers le Canada, divertissant les fans à chaque
arrêt avec son style musical imaginatif, incarnée par sa capacité
unique à fusionner les rythmes de la musique traditionnelle cubaine
avec le son harmonieux du jazz contemporain.

From Holguín, Cuba, but living in Canada since 1997, Joel Diaz has
participated in several headliners such as Arturo Sandoval, Tito
Puente, Eddy Palmieri, and Ray Barreto. The year 2003 marked
his debut performance at the “Festival international de Jazz de
Montréal”. His works include the release of his albums; which
were Te llegó, praised by fans and critics alike. Since the release of
Encuentros in 2010, Yoel and his Cuban Jazz Session have performed
at festivals across Canada, entertaining fans at every stop with his
imaginative musical style which embodied by his unique ability to
fuse the rhythms of traditional Cuban music with the harmonious
sound of contemporary jazz.

Afternoon tea, which became a cultural institution during Queen
Victoria’s reign, is one quirky British pastime worth hanging onto.
Le Chenail will be serving quality pots of tea with delectable sweets
and dainty finger sandwiches. With the sounds of Madame Motard’s
cello, you will have an unforgettable time! A spring celebration!

THÉRÈSE MOTARD - Native de Cornwall en Ontario, Thérèse
Motard a reçu sa formation au Conservatoire de musique
de Montréal sous la direction de Walter Joachim et de Otto
Joachim. Elle y mérite les premiers prix d’interprétation
comme soliste et chambriste. Récipiendaire de plusieurs
bourses offertes par le Conseil des arts du Canada, elle
poursuit sa formation de violoncelliste à New York avec Bernard
Greenhouse, Zara Nelsova et Lynn Harrell.
THERESE MOTARD - Cornwall Ontario Native, Thérèse Motard
was trained at the Montreal Conservatory of Music under the
direction of Joachim Walter and Otto Joachim. She received the
top acting awards as a soloist and chamber musician. Recipient
of several scholarships offered by the Canada Council for the
Arts, she continued her training in New York with cellist Bernard
Greenhouse, Zara Nelsova and Lynn Harrell.

C’est le dernier projet solo de Joé Mallette. Après
près de dix ans en tant que chef de Cosmic Orgasm, il
était temps pour moi de monter en selle et de pousser
encore plus loin mon travail. Ce projet est le sommet
de dix années en quête de vision pour atteindre la
profondeur insondable de la techno psychédélique. Il
est plus lent, mais, plus profond que tout mon travail
précédent.

It’s the latest solo project of Joé Mallette. After almost
ten years as the leader of Cosmic Orgasm, it was
time for me to saddle up and push my work further.
This project is the apex of a ten year quest to reach
unfathomable depth of psychedelic techno. It is slower,
yet, way deeper than any of my previous work.

L’audace d’ALSB, leur exubérance et leurs vibrations sensuelles sont
de retour dans un spectacle bien épicé. Ils dévoilent de nouvelles
oeuvres tout en gardant ce kaléidoscope d’influences diverses
tissant le jazz, les rythmes latinos, la pop des années 60, le cabaret,
le soul, le manouche et cette fois-ci, revisitant aussi la chanson
canadienne-française. Ils font danser du coeur et des pieds.
They view french classics through an off-kilter kaleidoscope of
influences, building songs from a junkyard of broken parts. Jazz,
’60’s pop, cabaret, rock, soul, gypsy, torch song, r&b and grungy,
stompy blues all get thrown into the mix. When playing their
own songs – including the single “Avec Toi” – they use the same
approach, creating a modern and unique sound that is built with
the musical cobblestones of the past. A road of songs – pointing
toward the future.

jouer de la musique. Son objectif était d’apprendre les notes et les
nuances des chansons. Terry voulait être en mesure de déconstruire
les complexités du jazz, du blues et de la musique africaine tout en
permettant à l’auditeur de se sentir à l’intérieur de la musique et se
perdre à chaque note, chaque phrase, chaque “groove” et chaque
mot ... Terry est l’un de nos voisins, résident de Vankleek Hill ...

music. His goal was to get inside the music he loved, to learn the
notes and nuances of the songs. Gillespie wanted to deconstruct

allow the listener to loose himself on each and every note, each
phrase, each groove and each lyric…Terry is one of our neighbours
who lives in Vankleek Hill…

jamais. Il laisse glisser ses doigts sur sa fameuse kora et partage sa
passion par une musique étoffée et engagée.
In concert. West Africa Music. Drawing from the Afro-Mandingue
tradition, Zal Sissokho develops on stage an inspiring music and
dance that makes us feel every moment of this warm musical
culture which is more alive than ever. He lets his fingers glide on his
famous kora and shares his passion of an expanded and committed
music.
Zal embarque pour le Canada en 1990 et y joue avec les frères
Diouf, Richard Séguin, le Montreal Jubilation Choir, Corneille…il fait
sonner son instrument également pour des musiques de films dont,
Un dimanche à Kigali de Robert Favreau. À Las Vegas, il participe
au spectacle “O” du Cirque du Soleil.
Zal came to Canada in 1990 and performed with the Diouf brothers,
Richard Séguin and the Montreal Jubilation Choir, Corneille ... he
has played his kora for film music such as, A Sunday in Kigali by
Robert Favreau. In Las Vegas, he participated in the show “O” for
Cirque du Soleil.

Eric Charlebois, manipule les figures de styles
avec l’habileté d’un prestidigitateur pour le
plus grand plaisir du lecteur. Il a beau utilizer
l’humour comme une technique d’auto-défense,
cela n’empêche pas la poésie de jaillir comme
par surprise !
Retraitée de l’enseignement et passionnée
d’histoire, elle a publié six romans historiques
qui rendent hommage aux traditions et à
l’héritage transmis par les générations qui nous
ont précédés.
Fervent défenseur de la langue française, il
démontre un amour particulier pour le théâtre.
Il devient dramaturge, metteur en scène et
comédien dans plus de 30 productions.
Colette réalise son rêve : écrire pour sauvegarder
l’histoire et la langue des Franco-Ontariens,
rappeler la contribution des ancêtres, le
magnifique héritage qu’ils nous ont laissé,
sensibiliser les gens au sort des aînés, à la beauté
de leur vie, à la nature, à notre terre, à notre
monde.

Cette maison unique, construite en 1832, servait à l’origine de bureau administratif et de magasin
général de la société Hawkesbury Mills. Le bureau principal était occupé par John Hamilton, copropriétaire de la scierie et baron du bois-d’oeuvres, financier et homme politique nommé au Sénat
canadien lors de la Confédération en 1867.
La Salle Hamilton peut contenir 30 personnes en style conférence, 60 personnes en style théâtre, 75
en style cocktail. L’utilisation de la terrasse également proposée pendant la belle saison, contient
30 personnes.
This unique building was originally constructed to house the Hawkesbury Mills Administration Offices
and Company General Store, built in 1832. The front office was originally used by the mill co-owner,
John Hamilton, lumber baron, financier and politician who was named to the Senate of Canada at
Confederation in 1867.
