In this time of uncertainty in the future of
the clothing industry, the recent publication of
market studies produced by the industry's
human resources committee underscores how
important an organization such as the
Fondation de la mode de Montréal can be to the
unfolding of our industry.
En ces temps d’incertitude pour l’avenir de
l’industrie du vêtement, la publication récente
des études de marché produites par le comité des
ressources humaines de l’industrie vient souligner
à quel point un organisme comme la Fondation
de la mode de Montréal peut jouer un rôle
crucial dans la suite des choses.
Pao Lim is being fêted by the press lately,
and rightly so: a recent graduate of London,
England's prestigious Central St. Martin’s
College of Art and Design, he is a laureate of
both the Foundation and, more recently, the
2000 Smirnof International Fashion Awards.
Danielle Martin, his companion in business and
life, also received a grant from the Foundation,
and was a 1999 Smirnof International Fashion
Awards finalist. The pair has now been selected
to take part in the influential Genart Style 2004
Competition in New York.
Célébrés par la presse internationale et
fraîchement émoulus du programme de maîtrise
en Design de mode du très prestigieux Central St.
Martin’s College of Art and Design de Londres,
Pao Lim est un boursier de la Fondation mais
aussi le lauréat mondial 2000 du Smirnof
International Fashion Awards. Sa compère et
conjointe, Danielle Martin, fut également boursière de la Fondation mais finaliste du Smirnof,
l’année précédente.
And both are living proof that image can
have far-ranging influence; Danielle with
Martha Graham's modern dance troupe and
Madame Grès; Pao with the purity of the Russian
constructivists and their obsession with the basic
geometric forms.
The results are fascinating: clothing for
women that is sensual yet cerebral, masculine
yet feminine. This evening, you'll have the privilege of getting a peek at the first collection of
the Montréal fashion world's new darlings, well
before it is launched during the Montréal fashion week this coming September.
