EXHIBITION
THE MODEL, SLIGO: "AN ANATOMICAL CHART OF LOVE PAINS"
14 APRIL - 16 JUNE
This project involves five artists invited to respond to a chapter in the
book The Museum of Innocence by Orhan Pamuk. Each artist will have
a gallery space to then act out their response. Invited artists are Lili
Reynaud Dewar (France), the Brussels-based sculptor Zin Taylor, Model
artist in residence (awarded via the RDS, Ireland) Ian Nolan, Nikola
Roethemeyer (Germany) and Koken Ergun (Turkey).
In exquisite, harrowing detail, the text describes and makes a chart of the
protagonist’s physical and emotional torments due to unrequited love, akin
to a modern day Goethian Werther narrative but from the modernised
East. This intense microcosm of existence is the backdrop to each
artists’ production for the exhibition. The artworks range from drawings to
sculpture to full room installations.

MUSIC
HAYDN: THE SIX "PARIS" SYMPHONIES
14, 21, 28 APRIL & 12, 19, 26 MAY 2013
Between 1785 and 1786, Haydn composed six great works for the French capital
that represent one of the pinnacles of the late-eighteenth-century classical symphony.
Known collectively as the Paris symphonies, they were commissioned by Les
Concerts de la Loge Olympique, financed by the aristocratic music lover, Le Comte
d’Ogny, and performed at the Salle des Cent Suisses in the Tuileries palace in 1787
by what was the largest and most virtuosic orchestra in Europe at the time. Their
enduring popularity and Haydn’s attention to French taste resulted in titles for three of
them: l’Ours, No. 82, la Poule No. 83 and la Reine No. 85. La Reine was the
favourite of Marie Antoinette.
One of the Paris symphonies will be performed by The Orchestra of St Cecilia as
the concluding work in each of the six concerts in this, the third of six annual series
devoted to performing all 108 symphonies of Haydn.
