INSTALL ATION INTER ACTIVE
POUR PIERRES SONORES
« Roc Gongs » invite à explorer l’univers sonore
du règne minéral. Symbole d’intemporalité, la pierre
que l’on croyait dense, lourde et inerte se dévoile : Elle
chante !
Claire, cristalline et soyeuse. Sombre, rauque
ou voilée. Plusieurs sculptures musicales ainsi que
des lithophones créés par Pierre Estève sont mis
à disposition du public afin
d’ex­plorer seul ou en groupe
la richesse de ses timbres.
Percutée, frottée, caressée,
la pierre interagit avec qui
veut jouer avec elle, prête à
devenir tour à tour instrument
d’un autre age ou générateur
sonore d’avant-garde.
Enfin, un « lithophone augmenté », assisté par ordinateur, harmonise un ensemble
de pier­res avec une composition interactive à base de sonorités lithiques. L’interprète
ne joue plus seul : l’ordinateur réagit aux propositions musicales, et un dialogue diffusé en quadriphonie s’instaure
entre eux. Alors, en réponse à ce jeu éphémère dans
le présent, on entendra peut-être sourdre au loin l’écho
d’une mélodie d’une beauté infinie et éternelle. Celle
du chant de l’univers...
Rock Gongs Interactive singing stones installation
“Rock Gongs” is an invitation to explore the sounds of the mineral
realm. A symbol of timelessness, rock – believed dense, heavy and
inert – actually sings!
Clear, crystalline and silky-smooth. Dark, rugged or veiled.
The audience is given the opportunity to explore, alone or in groups,
the wealth of timbres held in a number of musical sculptures and
lithophones, fashioned by Pierre Estève.
Rock – struck, scratched or stroked – interacts with anyone willing to
play with it, ready to become an instrument of times past, or an avantgarde generator of sound.
The computer-assisted “enhanced lithophone” harmonises a whole
set of rocks with an interactive composition made from lithic sounds.
The performer is no longer playing alone: the computer responds to
his musical suggestions, and a dialogue, heard quadriphonically,
sets in between them. It is then that, in response to this ephemeral
play in the present, a distant echo may ring out – that of a
melody, of infinite and eternal beauty. That of the universe, when
it sings…

Compositeur et artiste multimédia, Pierre Estève explore
de nouveaux champs de création mélangeant arts, en
particulier la musique, éléments naturels et nouvelles
technologies.
Investi dans son temps, il pose le dialogue constant entre
l’homme et la nature comme champ d’investigation,
et par l’interaction avec l’oeuvre questionne le specta
teur sur son propre rapport au monde. Au-delà du bruit
ambiant de nos sociétés, il propose au « spect-Acteur »
la voie vers un espace de silence intérieur où réinvestir
son être pour réenchanter le
monde.
A la fois pièces musicales,
tableaux, sculptures, ses
installations sollicitent tous
les sens et invitent au lâcher
prise. Sa curiosité naturelle
le pousse à inventer de
nouveaux
langages
et
d’autres modes d’expression
en rapport avec tous les
domaines qui le passionnent.
Il puise l’énergie qui l’habite
dans le plaisir du jeu, la soif
de découvrir et la rencontre
avec l’autre. Dans ses compositions, il mélange orchestre
symphonique, voix, choeurs, instruments du monde et
sonorités naturelles. Il écrit pour le concert ainsi que pour
des films et des jeux vidéo.
Multi-instrumentiste, Pierre Estève collectionne les
instruments venus des cinq continents. Dans la grotte
d’Ali Baba qu’est son atelier, on trouve notamment un
gamelan javanais historique ayant appartenu à la famille
royale de Jogjakarta, des instruments celtes, arméniens
ou africains, allant des pièces les plus raffinées aux plus
primitives.
MADe IN, sa collection sur les éléments et les matières
sonores reste pour lui une source infinie de recherche et
d’émerveillement. Il y explore les sonorités insoupçonnés
des matériaux naturels qui nous entourent. Après les
deux premiers albums, “Bamboo” et “Metal”, il enregistre
actuellement le troisième volet, “Stone”, auquel “Stalactica”,
entièrement enregistré dans des grottes, fera suite.
Pierre Estève, a multimedia composer and artist, explores new fields of
creation combining the arts, in particular music, with natural elements
and new technologies. Dedicated to his times, he puts forward the
constant dialogue between man and nature as a field of investigation
and, by interacting with his work, questions spectators about their own
relationship with the world. Beyond the background noise produced
by our societies, he points the “spect-Actor” toward a place of inner
silence, where magic can re-enchant the world and individuals become
one with themselves again.
