September Virtue - RESPECT/REVERENCE
Respect or reverence is valuing ourselves and others as unique persons, created and loved by
God. It is also caring for the environment as God’s gift to us. We respect God when we have a
prayerful reverence and awe for God’s greatness and goodness.
NEW D0517 - A LITTLE RESPECT PLEASE
NEW D0519 - WE'RE DIFFERENT, BUT THE SAME

RESPECT - GET IT WHERE YOU GIVE IT
It's something we all want and need: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Of
course, the best way to gain respect is to earn it. This program
focuses on aspects of respectful behavior, such as using good
manners, being courteous, and resolving conflicts peacefully. It
also examines respect for others' property and privacy, selfrespect, and recognizing the importance of rules and laws. Educators and students discuss the sometimes-difficult relationship
between teens and authority figures.

Born Agnese Bojaxhiu, Albanian Mother Teresa (1910-97) worked as a Roman Catholic missionary from
an early age, but yearned to serve her god through action rather than contemplation. She was sent to India,
became a teacher, then a nun, and after considerable struggle, founded a new order, The Missionaries of
Charity, with almost no resources. In the most poverty-stricken city in India, Calcutta, she and her few sisters began helping the poor, sick, orphaned and dying from the streets. Their work and numbers expanded
and became more famous in the 1970’s. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. By the
time of her death, her order had 4,000 sisters operating 610 missions in 123 countries. Despite some criticisms about her toward the end of her life, this diminutive person is widely remembered for her great determination and courage by helping the helpless.
