Il sert à faire une boucle temporaire sur un cordage.
Used for making a temporary loop in a line.
Le noeud de chaise ne glisse pas et ne se souque pas.
A bowline does not slip, jam or fail, yet is easily
untied.
Ses utilisations sont multiples mais la principale est
de relier les écoutes à la voile avant.
It serves a variety of purposes, the most common of
which is tying a sheet into the clew of the sail.
NOEUD EN HUIT - FIGURE EIGHT KNOT
Nœud d’arrêt, exécuté au bout d’un cordage.
(écoute, drisse)
Used as a “stopper” knot. Tied at the end of a line.

Le noeud en huit empêche un cordage de filer à travers
une poulie.
A figure eight prevents a line from pulling through
a block or fairlead.
On doit laisser suffisamment de cordage après un nœud
pour pouvoir l’agripper facilement.
Leave sufficient bitter end to allow gripping with
both hands.
NOEUD DE CABESTAN – CLOVE HITH
Utilisé pour frapper un cordage à un espar,
pour maintenir la barre au centre du bateau quand
il est à l’ancre.
Used for tying a line to a spar (piling, post or stick)
for tying the tiller to center when the boat is docked,
anchored or at a mooring buoy.
On doit s’en méfier car si la tension sur le cordage
n’est pas régulière, il peut se dénouer.
Beware of the clove hitch. Unless there is steady
tension on the line, it can work loose.
Ne l’employez pas pour attacher les défenses en
permanence sur le bateau.
For this reason a clove hitch should not be used for
permanently securing fenders to the boat.

anneau, une main courante, un rail, afin d’amarrer le

Used for tying a dockline to a ring or rail
to secure the boat to a dock or float
(a floating dock)
On peut l’utiliser pour attacher les défenses au bateau.
Also used for securing fenders to the boat.
Les deux demi clés devront être effectuées dans la
même direction.
When tying the two half hitches, be sure to tie
them in the same direction.

Make a figure eight.
Finish with a half hitch. (Notice that the
bitter end lies parallel to the figure eight
turn.
NOTE : Si un cordage n’est pas tourné correctement

Il sert à attacher les deux bouts d’un même cordage,
les garcettes de ris par exemple.
Used for tying two ends of the same line, as when
tying a reef in a sail.
Mais ce noeud se défait facilement lorsqu’il bouge
beaucoup ou subit des chocs..
A reef knot is easily untied and may come undone if
the line is subject to a lot of movement of flogging.
NOEUD D’ÉCOUTE DOUBLE - DOUBLE SHEET BEND
On l’utilise pour attacher deux cordages de diamètres
différents.
Used for tying together two lines of unequal
thickness.
Il ne glissera pas et ne souquera pas si la boucle initiale
est effectuée avec le plus gros des deux cordages.
A double sheet bend will not jam or slip provided
you make the initial (loop) with the thicker rope.
Il sert à rallonger un cordage trop court.
This knot is useful for extending a line that is too
short.
RANGER UNE GLÈNE - COILING A LINE FOR STORAGE
Lover un cordage jusqu’à ce qu’il n’en reste environ,
un mètre.
Coil the line as above until you reach last few feet
of line.
Avec la partie libre du cordage, effectuez 2 ou 3 tours
sur la glène, de bas en haut.
Wrap the free end of the line around the top of the

and working upwards.

Starting at the standing end (the end by the cleat)
coil the line.
Faites une ganse avec le cordage libre entre la glène
et le taquet et passez-la dans la glène.
Reach through the coil and grab the line midway
between cleat and coil.
Effectuez une ou deux torsions avec la ganse et
accrochez-la à la branche supérieure du taquet ou
autour du winch.
Make a bight in the section of line.
Twist the bight once or twice.
Hang the coil by slipping the bight over the top
horn of the cleat or winch.
Tirez sur la glène pour resserrer le tout.
Pull down the coil.
LOVER UN CORDAGE – COILING A LINE
Pour lover un cordage si vous êtes droitier :
To coil a loose piece of line (if right handed):
1Commencez par l’extrémité libre et tenez-la
dans votre main gauche.
1Starting with either free end, hold the line
in your left hand.
2Avec votre main droite, effectuez des boucles
uniformes dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre
et passez-les une à une dans votre main gauche, en
effectuant au besoin un mouvement de torsion entre
le pouce et l’index.
2Pass a uniform length of line from the right
hand to the left. Make uniform sized loops in a
clockwise direction.
Cela empêchera le cordage de faire des coques, ce
qui le rendrait difficile à utiliser.
3If the line is laid line remove any twists by
taking a slight turn clockwise with your right wrist
as you coil. If the line is plaited or braided do not
Remove the twists. The line will fall into figure
eight coils.
