He started his professional career in the French public service, serving as a "souspréfet" in the French West Indies and in the Provence. He joined the European Commission in 1992, as a member of the then President Jacques Delors' private office. From 1995, he held various positions in the European Commission services, in particular in the directorates generals in charge of human resources, budget, competition, and home affairs. He has been a director since 2008, and took up his current post of Director for Culture and Creativity in January 2013. Michel Magnier, né en 1960, est diplômé de l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris en 1981 et de l'Ecole Nationale d'Administration en 1986. Il entame sa carrière professionnelle dans le service public français en tant que sous-préfet aux Antilles et en Provence. Il rejoint la Commission européenne en 1992 et devient membre du cabinet du président de l'époque, Jacques Delors. Depuis 1995 il a occupé différentes fonctions à la Commission européenne, en particulier dans la direction générale des ressources humaines, du budget, de la concurrence et des affaires intérieures. Il a été directeur depuis 2008, et occupe le poste de Directeur de Culture et Créativité depuis janvier 2013. Peter de Caluwe [email protected] Peter de Caluwe was born with a passion for opera and the dramatic arts. He studied literature and theatre at Gent, Brussels and Antwerp universities and wrote a thesis about history of opera direction. He had already seen over a hundred opera performances by the time he was 18. Gerard Mortier hired him in 1986 as a dramaturg and manager of public relations and youth projects at La Monnaie. In 1989 he joined the staff of the Amsterdam Opera. First as director of external and 1 internal communication; he later shared the artistic direction with Pierre Audi. In August 2007 he became director of la Monnaie/de Munt. He has just been reappointed for a second term until at least 2019. Peter de Caluwe has succeeded in showing his originality through La Monnaie's programming, inviting famous directors and daring rare works. Passionné d'opéra et de théâtre depuis son enfance, Peter de Caluwe a étudié la littérature et le théâtre à l'université de Gand, Bruxelles et Anvers, avec un mémoire sur l'histoire de la mise en scène d'opéra. A 18 ans il avait déjà vu plus de 100 opéras. Gerard Mortier l'engage en 1986 comme dramaturge, responsable des relations publiques et des projets pour jeunes au Théâtre de la Monnaie. En 1989 il rejoint l'équipe de l'Opéra d'Amsterdam. D'abord directeur de la communication interne et externe, il en partage, quatre ans plus tard, la direction artistique avec Pierre Audi. En août 2007 il prend la direction générale du Théâtre de la Monnaie. Il vient d'être reconduit en ses fonctions pour un deuxième mandat, au moins jusqu'en 2019. Peter de Caluwe a su afficher sa marque sur la programmation de la Monnaie en invitant de grands metteurs en scène et osant des ouvrages rares. Didier Viviers [email protected] Didier Vivers was born in 1963 in Belgium. He was elected the 65th Rector of the Université libre de Bruxelles on the 7th of December 2010 for a first mandate and on the 8th of may 2012 for a second mandate finishing on the 14th of September 2016. After being president of the Conference of the rectors of the Frenchspeaking Community of Belgium (CRef) and President of the National Fund for scientific research (F.R.S.-FNRS), he is currently President of the Interuniversitarian Council of Higher Education (CIUF). Historian, art historian and archaeologist, he completed his PhD thesis at the Université libre de Bruxelles in 1991 on the Cretan City-States in the 6th and 5th BC and the concept of citizenship in the archaic and classical Greece. After a 4 years post-doctoral stay in Athens as a Member of the French School, he was appointed as researcher at the Belgian National Fund for scientific research (F.R.S.FNRS). Professor at the ULB (Université libre de Bruxelles) since 2002, he was deputy dean (20042008), then dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2008-2010). Former director of the Research Center in Archaeology and Heritage (CReA-Patrimoine) of the ULB, he was also Rector’s Adviser for research in Humanities and Social Sciences from 2000 to 2004. Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, member of the editorial board of various international scientific reviews, he is co-director of the Revue belge de Philologie et d’Histoire. Since 2013 he is also President of the Board of the Institute for Advanced studies french Network (RFIEA). A large part of his scientific activity is about field archaeology. Thus he excavated on various important archeological sites and participated to the construction of many European projects. Didier Viviers est en 1963 en Belgique. Ancien directeur du Centre de recherches en Archéologie et Patrimoine (CReA-Patrimoine) de l'ULB, il fut également Conseiller du Recteur pour la recherche en sciences humaines de 2000 à 2004. Membre de l'Académie royale de Belgique, membre de comités de rédaction de plusieurs revues internationales, il est co-directeur de la Revue belge de Philologie et d'Histoire. Depuis 2013 il est également Président du Conseil d'administration du Réseau français des Instituts d'Etudes avancées (RFIEA). Une large part de son activité scientifique concerne l'archéologie dite de terrain. Il a en effet eu l'occasion de fouiller sur plusieurs chantiers archéologiques importants et a participé à la construction de plusieurs projets européens. Anne-Sophie Noël [email protected] Anne-Sophie Noël completed a Phd in art and musicology at the Université catholique de Louvain and has an agrégation in musicology and art history. Very much interested in bringing culture to everyone, she started her career as a guide, working for 8 years for different cultural institutions in Brussels, e.g. the Théâtre de la Monnaie, the Fine Arts Royal Museums, Bozar or the MIM. In April 2008, she became the coordinator of the francophone education projects of La Monnaie, before being appointed head of the education department in November 2009. Très intéressée par la problématique de l'accès à la culture pour tout le monde, elle a commencé sa carrière en tant que guide pour diverses institutions culturelles de Bruxelles, entre autres le Théâtre de la Monnaie, les Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts, Bozar ou le MIM. En avril 2008, elle devient coordinatrice des projets éducatifs francophones de La Monnaie, afin d'être désignée comme chef du service éducatif en novembre 2009. Mirjam Zomersztajn [email protected] Mirjam Zomersztajn is german and graduated in social sciences of work, in international policy and development collaboration (Université Libre de Bruxelles). From 1999 to 2008, she was director of the Jewish Secular Community Center (CCLJ) where she initiated the program for tolerance education "La Haine, je dis Non! " ("Say No to Hate") for primary and secondary schools of the French 3 community of Belgium. She has coordinated La Monnaie's social program "Un Pont entre deux Mondes" ("A bridge Between Two Worlds"), aimed at adults with economic, social and medical difficulties since 2009. She is also voluntary moral advisor at the Foundation for Moral Assistance to Prisoners in the prisons of Forest, Saint-Gilles and Berkendael. Mirjam Zomersztajn, de nationalité allemande, est diplômée en sciences sociales du travail, en politique internationale et en coopération au développement (Université Libre de Bruxelles). De 1999 à 2008, elle a été la directrice du Centre Communautaire Laïc Juif (CCLJ) où elle a notamment été à l’initiative du programme d’éducation à la tolérance “La Haine, je dis Non!” à destination des écoles primaires et secondaires de la Communauté française de Belgique. Mélanie Munt [email protected] Facebook: Melanie Munt Originally from Berlin, Mélanie Munt has lived and worked in Brusssels since 1996. She studied dance in Berlin (Die Etage), Rotterdam (Rotterdamse Dansacademie), New York (Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance) and Brussels (P.A.R.T.S, Performing Arts and Research Studios), thanks to various scholarships. She has worked in Belgium since 1999 with choreographers such as Michèle Noiret, Joane Leighton, David Hernandez, Bud Blumenthal and contributed to the repertories of a.o, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and William Forsythe. In 2002 the dance company Michèle Noiret produced her first personal choreographic work: the solo Gerückt. She then created her own company, which now has a repertory of around 14 works. Her curiosity in other art forms influences her work and has lead to various collaborations, with the marionette artist Cyril Bourgois, the visual artist Charley Case, the trumpet player Marco Blaauw, the video artist Martijn Grootendorst and the composer Yannis Kyriakides among others. Her collaboration with the video artist Antonin De Bemels resulted in various films, installations and performances. Her work is mostly shown in Brussels and Paris, but is starting to be internationally recognized. Originaire de Berlin, Mélanie Munt vit et travaille à Bruxelles depuis 1996. Sylvie Huysman [email protected] Sylvie Huysman studied dance at the Hoger Instituut of Dance and Education of Antwerp and at P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts and Research Studios). She began her career with the Michèle Noiret company followed by various others. Finally she settled down in Amsterdam where she lived and worked for 10 years. Sylvie Huysman started taking a lively interest in theatre in 2008 and aims to create an interaction between dance, theater and performance, of which her creation Bonnie-Attempts/ Pas de Deux is a perfect illustration. Sylvie Huysman a suivi ses études de danse à la Hoger Instituut de danse et pédagogie d'Anvers puis à P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts and Research Studios). Elle commence ensuite sa carrière professionnelle dans la compagnie Michèle Noiret puis dans diverses compagnies de danse, pour s'installer finalement à Amsterdam où elle a vécu et travaillé pendant 10 ans. Depuis 2008, Sylvie Huysman s'intéresse beaucoup au théâtre, et tente de créer un pont entre la danse, le théâtre et la performance, comme l'illustre Bonnie-Attempts/ Pas de Deux, une de ses créations. Bernard Petre [email protected] Bernard Petre graduated in philosophy and law and has been a sociologist, researcher, consultant and trainer for more than 20 years. Field research through focus groups, face-to-face interviews and studies have made him an expert on the issue of youth today. After two years in an advertising agency, he worked from 1987 to 2001 as a research and management director in various market research firms including TNS Dimarso of the TNS Sofres group. His experience allows him to deal with a subject he knows well: behavior, perception and expectations of young people. He has given 5 conferences on themes such as "Youth, Family, School and Economics" and "Who are 21st century youth?". Licencié en philosophie et en droit, Bernard Petre est un sociologue, chercheur, consultant et formateur depuis plus de vingt ans. Ses recherches sur le terrain, aux travers de groupes de discussions, interviews en face à face ou enquêtes auprès de nombreuses personnes aux profils variés, lui ont permis de devenir un expert sur la question des jeunes et des générations. Après avoir travaillé deux ans en agence de publicité, il a exercé de 1987 à 2001 des fonctions de directeur de recherche et de management dans plusieurs bureaux d'études de marché. Depuis 2004, Bernard Petre s'est spécialisé dans la consultance et dans les recherches qualitatives pour de nombreuses sociétés belges dont TNS Dimarso du groupe TNS Sofres. Son expérience lui permet de traiter d'un sujet sur lequel il a déjà travaillé à plusieurs reprises et qu'il connait bien: les comportements, perceptions et attentes des jeunes. Il a ainsi déjà donné des conférences sur les thèmes "Les jeunes, la famille, l'école et le monde économique" ou "Qui sont ces jeunes du 21ème siècle ?". Lucy Lowe [email protected] After finishing her music studies at the Bristol University, Lucy Lowe completed an MA in Arts administration and Cultural Policy at the Goldsmiths College of the University of London. In 2005 she started her career in art education as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, becoming SCO Connect Director in 2008. She has been Head of Education at Glyndebourne since 2012. With a wide ranging education programme from the creation of works with schools and youth groups, study events, work with people with dementia and their carers, to large-scale community operas, Glyndebourne education department was qualified as "the most imaginative opera-education department in the country" by The Independent. Après ses études de musique à l'Université de Bristol, Lucy Lowe a suivi un MA en administration artistique et politique culturelle au Goldsmiths College de l'Université de Londres. En 2005, elle commence sa carrière dans l'éducation artistique à l'Orchestre de Chambre Ecossais, puis devient directrice du Service éducatif en 2008. Depuis 2012, elle est responsable du Service éducatif de Glyndebourne, dont la palette d’activités est large : création d'œuvres avec des écoles et des jeunes, interventions en université, travail avec des retraités et leurs aides soignants, opéras de grande envergure crées avec la population locale,… Le Service éducatif de Glyndebourne a été élu par The Independent comme " département éducatif dans l'opéra le plus imaginatif de notre pays". 6 Gabrielle Forster-Still [email protected] Gabrielle is originally from Germany, but has lived in England most of her adult life. She trained in Community Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London in the 1980s, and then worked for a variety of theatre companies in Germany and England, including Kinder- und Jugendtheater Essen and Athanor Theater, Munich. Gabrielle moved into community engagement and development work in the late 1990s, developing and leading on projects including youth, older people, healthy living and volunteering programmes. During this time Gabrielle completed an MA in Social Enterprise and set up a small enterprise dedicated to building the capacity of charitable and not-for-profit businesses. Gabrielle’s work included designing and delivering training programmes, strategic and business planning and project management. Gabrielle has been in post at the Royal Opera House for three and a half years; she manages the education and community engagement programme for the ROH in Thurrock. She has led on key projects including The Purfleet Opera: Ludd and Isis, The ROH Thurrock Community Chorus and she has developed the ROH Thurrock volunteer programme. Currently, Gabrielle is developing the public and education tours for the ROH Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production workshop on High House Production Park, she manages a team including two creative apprentices and represents the ROH at local stakeholder events and evenings. Since her mid 20s, Gabrielle has been a lover of opera and was a friend of Covent Garden long before she ever started working there. Her role working for the Royal Opera House combines her twin passions, opera and all the artforms contained within opera with community development and engagement. Gabrielle est d’origine allemande mais a vécu la majorité de sa vie adulte en Angleterre. Elle a suivi une formation d’Art théâtral participatif au Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama de Londres dans les années 1980. Elle travaille ensuite dans plusieurs compagnies théâtrales en Allemagne et en Angleterre, notamment pour Kinderbund Jugendtheater Essen and Athanor Theater à Munich. Gabrielle s’est tournée vers le travail associatif à la fin des années 1990; elle a alors mené et développé des projets de volontariat et de bien-être rassemblant des jeunes et des personnes âgées. En parallèle, elle termine un Master en entreprise sociale et monte une petite société qui aide à la création d’entreprises sans but lucratif et d’œuvres de bienfaisance. Son travail consiste alors à élaborer et à donner des formations pratiques, des plans d’actions et de la gestion de projets. Gabrielle est entrée au Royal Opera House il y a presque 4 années où elle gère le programme éducatif et associatif du ROH à Thurrock. Elle a mis en place des projets clés comme “The Purfleet Opera: Ludd and Isis”, “The ROH Thurrock Community Chorus” et elle a développé le programme de bénévoles pour ROH Thurrock. Actuellement, Gabrielle conçoit des visites guidées pour le ROH Bob et l’atelier de production Tamar Manoukian à High House Production Park. Elle dirige une équipe qui compte deux apprentis créateurs et représente la ROH lors de soirées et évènements locaux. Gabrielle est amatrice d’opéra depuis ses 20 ans et a fait partie des amis de Covent Garden bien avant d’y travailler. Son travail combine ainsi ses deux passions, l’opéra et les formes artistiques qui lui sont associées et l’engagement associatif. 7 Sean Gregory [email protected] Sean Gregory is Director of Creative Learning for the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This post aims to develop and deliver a range of world-class creative learning programmes involving music, theatre, visual arts, cinema, dance and literature across the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School, in close collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra and relevant local, national and international partners. A wide range of projects provide opportunities for participants to develop individual creativity, to extend forms of performance and communication both within and outside the Barbican and Guildhall School, and to foster a shared understanding between people from different cultural backgrounds. Sean Gregory works as a composer, performer and creative producer throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. He leads collaborative arts projects for all ages and abilities in association with many British and international orchestras, opera companies, theatres, galleries and arts/education organizations. His commissions range from chamber works to large scale collaborations in the community and include performances in a huge range of contexts and venues at local, national and international level. Sean Gregory est Directeur « d'apprentissage créatif » pour le Barbican Centre et la Guildhall School of Music and Drama. L'objectif de ce poste est de développer et fournir une variété de programmes d'apprentissage créatif d'envergure mondiale dans la musique, le théâtre, les arts visuels, le cinéma, la dance, et la littérature au Barbican Centre et à la Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Ces programmes se font en étroite collaboration avec le London Symphony Orchestra et d'autres partenaires locaux, nationaux ou internationaux appropriés. La plupart de ces projets fournissent l'opportunité aux participants de développer leur créativité individuelle, d'étendre les formes d'interprétation et de communication autant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur du Barbican et de la Guildhall School. Ces projets ont aussi comme objectif de favoriser une compréhension partagée entre des individus de milieux différents. Sean Gregory est un compositeur, interprète et producteur artistique au Royaume-Uni et à l'étranger. Il est à l'origine de projets d'art collaboratif pour tous les âges et toutes les compétences en association avec de nombreux orchestres britanniques et internationaux, des compagnies d'opéra, théâtres, galeries et organisations artistiques et éducatives. Ses travaux vont de petits formats à des collaborations avec la population locale de grande envergure, et incluent des représentations dans des contextes et lieux variés au niveau local, national ou international. 8 Rhian Hutchings [email protected] Rhian Hutchings is the Youth and Community Director of Welsh National Opera. She was born in Newport, Gwent, studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and has been working in opera for the last ten years. She spent three years as a staff director at English National Opera, before becoming a freelance director, working with a wide range of companies from Opera North and Garsington Opera to Music in the Round and New Youth Opera. Rhian’s career choices have been led by her passion for new opera. She began her association with the Welsh National Opera in 2003 when she ran the commissioning process for The Tailor’s Daughter, which was performed by the Welsh National Youth Opera in 2005. While leading Youth and Community for Welsh National Opera she has commissioned a range of operas for young people and community participants, overseen the youth and community strands, and created WNO Extra - a bespoke insight programme. She is also project lead for Artworks Cymru – a research project exploring how artists train to work in participatory settings, and chair of the RESEO steering group. Rhian Hutchings est la directrice du département jeune public du Welsh National Opera. Elle est née à Newport (Gwent), a étudié au Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, et a travaillé dans le secteur de l’opéra ces 10 dernières années. Elle a été pendant trois ans directrice du personnel au English National Opera avant de devenir metteuse en scène freelance. Au cours de cette période, elle a travaillé avec de nombreuses compagnies comme Opera North, Garsington Opera, Music in the Round et New Youth Opera. Rhian a mené ses choix de carrière en suivant sa passion pour l’opéra actuel. Almudena Pedrero [email protected] After her degree in History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, she passed the exam to become an archivist. She then worked at the National Archives managing documents and files and organising a variety of cultural and training activities. She joined Teatro de la Zarzuela in 2012 as Head of the educational department. Après son diplôme d'histoire à l'université Complutense de Madrid, elle passe un concours d'archiviste. Elle a travaillé aux Archives nationales où elle gère des documents et dossiers et organise de nombreuses activités culturelles et des formations. Elle a rejoint le Teatro de la Zarzuela en 2012 en tant que responsable du service éducatif. 9 Simon Bauwens [email protected] After his masters degree in Sociology at Gent University and music studies at the Gent Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans, Simon Bauwens became production manager for the cultural management agency C-Zuur in 2009. His first job was with baroque orchestra B'Rock, ensemble Il Gardellin , followed by the contemporary music ensemble Spectra. He then moved to Madrid and is currently assistant to the Artistic Director Gerard Mortier and director of the educational programme at the Teatro Real, Spain’s national opera. The educational programme involves performances for youth as well as initiatives aimed at attracting younger audiences to the opera. Après son master de sociologie à l'Université de Gand et des études de musique à l'Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans de Gand, Simon Bauwens devient chargé de production pour l'agence de management culturel C-Zuur en 2009. Il commence à travailler avec l'orchestre baroque B'Rock, l'ensemble Il Gardellin, puis avec l'ensemble de musique contemporaine Spectra. Il emménage ensuite à Madrid et est actuellement assistant du Directeur Artistique Gerard Mortier et directeur des programmes éducatifs du Teatro Real, l'opéra national espagnol. Des représentations à destination du jeune public ainsi que des initiatives pour attirer le jeune public à l'opéra font parties de ces programmes éducatifs. Hillevi Björnsson [email protected] Hillevi Björnsson, 22 years old, is in her final year of Performing arts design at Malmö University. She started working for Malmö Opera during her year in Musicology at Lund University. She works on audience presentations, post-performance talks and occasionally guided tours. This semester she is also working on a project in cooperation with Malmö Opera and Drömmarnas hus with focus on storytelling. Hillevi Björnsson, 22 ans, étudie en dernière années de Conception des Arts de la Scène à l'Université de Malmö. Elle a commencé à travailler pour l'Opéra de Malmö pendant sa dernière année de musicologie à l'Université de Lund. Elle travaille sur les présentations au public, les rencontres au foyer avec le public et de temps en temps des visites guidées. Currently he works at La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels as the director of dramaturgy, publications and education. He spent several years working for Polish television networks and media production houses as a copywriter, creative director and director then studied dramaturgy and followed a research program in literary studies at the University of Amsterdam. He collaborated as a dramaturge with De Nederlandse Opera, Grand Theatre-National Opera in Warsaw, Nationale Reisopera, Kameroperahuis, Nederlands Theater Festival, International Choreographic Arts Centre in Amsterdam and the experimental opera lab Studio Minailo among others. His libretti were presented at the Opera Days in Rotterdam and Stadsfestival Zwolle. Krystian initiated and curated several events in Amsterdam, such as the European Opera Days in the Netherlands, the creative activism and professional empowerment program Fringe Fuel for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, and the United States of Opera – a research and expertise platform for opera professionals concerned with the form and function of opera in contemporary society. He coordinated international cultural projects for the Goethe-Institut and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Warsaw. Stimulating profound encounters between practitioners across various professional sectors; empowering and leading international teams of creative professionals; actively exploring new models for opera engagement with society; bringing opera to the contemporary artistic and cultural context is what drives Krystian in his day-to-day work between opera and creative activism. Following her choreography for American composer Philip Glass, Clare became choreographer and director at English National Opera, London. As an opera director she created productions for The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle and San Francisco Operas, Netherlands Opera, Wiesbaden & Kiel Operas, The Royal Opera House- Covent Garden, Sadlers Wells, BBC Proms, Paris Opera Bastille. As a result of personal injury, her work deepened to include studies in holistic health (chi kung and therapeutic massage). She developed her own clinic practice and later went on to become Managing Director of International wellbeing company Six Senses Spas. She published her own movement method - ‘The Energy Source’ – simple daily exercise for mind and body vitality – enhancing movement through visualization of energy. This work begun in rehearsals at English National Opera, Opéra de Paris and the Royal Opera House, was recognized with a Laurence Olivier nomination for outstanding achievement. Clare currently teaches classical ballet in Switzerland and is a teacher trainer and practical teaching supervisor for the RAD & Ecole Superieure de Danse, Cannes. She specializes in the integration of dance and wellbeing, creating CPD (continuous professional development) teacher training in: ‘danceing longevity’® – foundations of dance for older adults’ and in ‘holistic ballet’™ training. Clare presents her innovative research for IADMS (International Association of Dance Medicine & Science) and is an active member of the RESEO Steering Committee – leading the RESEO Dance Space. Elle a développé une nouvelle méthode de mouvements « The Energy Source », un exercice quotidien pour la vitalité du corps et de l’esprit visant à améliorer le mouvement grâce à une visualisation de l'énergie. Cette méthode à commencé avec des répétitions à l'ENO, à l’Opéra de Paris et à la Royal Opera House, et a été nommée pour un Laurence Olivier Award récompensant son avancée remarquable dans l’opéra. Clare enseigne aujourd'hui la danse classique en Suisse et est formatrice pédagogique et encadre la formation pratique des enseignants pour RAD et l'Ecole supérieure de danse de Cannes. Elle s'est spécialisée dans l'intégration de la danse et du bien être et crée des formations pour les enseignant: «Danser la longévité» -fondements de la danse pour personnes âgées et ateliers de « Ballet holistique». 12 Elle présente régulièrement ses recherches pour IADMS (International Association for Dance Medicine and Science). Emilie Delorme [email protected] Emilie Delorme became Production Manager from 2003 to 2008 at the théâtre Royal de La Monnaie. She is currently director of the Aix en Provence Festival Academy and of ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies). At the heart of the festival, the Academy is a place devoted to training and sharing, an instrument for professional integration and prestige, through which the Aix en Provence Festival dedicates a part of its activities to training and promoting young artists. Every year in June and July, singers, instrumentalists and creators selected from all around the world come to Aix en Provence during the festival to perfect their training. They benefit from the guidance of great artists and professors, and develop their vocal and instrumental interpretation as well as their talent for musical and scenic creation. Emilie Delorme a été, de 2003 à 2008, chargée de production au Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. Elle est actuellement directrice de l'Académie du Festival d'Aix en Provence et du réseau ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies). Au cœur du festival, l'Académie est un lieu de formation et d'échange, un instrument d'insertion professionnelle et de rayonnement. Par son biais, le Festival d'Aix en Provence consacre une partie de ses activités au perfectionnement de jeunes artistes. Chaque année, en juin et juillet, des chanteurs, instrumentistes et créateurs sélectionnés dans le monde entier viennent parfaire leur formation à Aix-en-Provence pendant la période du Festival. Ils bénéficient de l'encadrement de grands artistes et pédagogues tant dans le domaine de l'interprétation, vocale et instrumentale, que de la création, musicale et scénique. Olga Kolokytha [email protected] Olga Kolokytha holds a PhD in Cultural Institutions Studies with distinction from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, an MA in Arts Management from City University London and a Diploma in Musicology and Music Education from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki-Greece. She has presented papers in international conferences, has taught cultural policy and management at University level and works as freelance cultural projects manager, production manager and cultural consultant around Europe. She is the author of the book "Artistic Development of Young Professional Singers" where the main questions raised are how artistic development is perceived and if and how it is practiced by opera organizations, with particular emphasis on Young Artist's Programmes. The book also identifies 13 associated issues, stresses the importance of artistic development and offers reasons to support initiatives aimed at young professional artists. Among the issues discussed are taste, creative process, performance and skills, singers’ careers and the changing job description and role of artists. Olga Kolokytha détient un PhD d'Etude des institutions culturelles avec mention de l'Université de Musique et d'Art de la scène de Vienne, un MA en Gestion Artistique de la City University de Londres et un diplôme de musicologie et d'éducation musicale de l'université Aristotle de Thessaloniki en Grèce. Elle a présenté des rapports dans des conférences internationales, a enseigné à l'université la gestion et les politiques culturelles, et travaille en freelance en tant que responsable de projets culturels, responsable de production et consultante à travers l'Europe. Elle est l'auteur du livre "Artistic Development of Young Professional Singers" dans lequel la principale question soulevée est quel développement artistique existe, et si il est pratiqué par les organismes d'opéra et comment, avec une attention particulière portée sur les programmes des jeunes artistes. Le livre s'intéresse aussi à des thèmes liés, pointe l'importance du développement artistique et offre des arguments pour soutenir les initiatives à l'attention des jeunes artistes professionnels. She also studied the Dalcroze Method of teaching music. She is a founding member of the Ensemble Modern Germany and has worked with leading composers and conductors of the century including Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvos, Franck Zappa, György Ligeti, Steve Reich and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1990 she started her involvement with electronics and began composing. She has composed for theatre, opera, radio and film, created installations and has been commissioned by the South Bank Centre London, State Opera of Berlin, and international contemporary music festivals among others. Awards include Prix Italia and Prix Marulic for best Radio Plays. Catherine Milliken has been involved in creative educational and practical composition projects for professionals and non-professionals alike since 1990. She has led creative and compositional projects for Festivals such as Klangspuren Schwaz (Lautstark) or the Megaron Hall, Athens, Aix en Provence and Salzburg as well as for various other institutions and orchestras. From 2005 to 2012 she was Director of the Education Program of the Berliner Philharmoniker, conceiving their educational programmes as well as undertaking the creative and educative direction of all projects. Nils Spangenberg [email protected] Nils Spangenberg studied at the College of Music and at the College of Theatre and Opera in Gothenburg. He was a singer, Production Planner, Assistant Director and Stage Director at the Gothenburg Opera between 1981 and 1988 and also taught at The College of Opera in Stockholm from 1989 to 2010. Nils Spangenberg has worked as singer and stage Director at the Vadstena Academy as well as The Royal Opera, Stockholm, Drottningholm Court Theatre, Norrlandsoperan, The Confidence, Värmland Opera and for Swedish Public Television. He was Creative Designer of the Nobel Prize Banquet in 1995 and 1996. Nils Spangenberg has a special interest in contemporary opera. He initiated and commissioned several new operas and has also cooperated as a librettist. He is Artistic Director Of the Vadstena Academy since 2001 and was appointed General Manager in 2009. Vanessa Gasztowtt [email protected] Vanessa Gasztowtt is the Head of Cultural Develoment at the Ile de France National Orchestra (ONDIF). After a Masters degree in Music Administration and Management at the Sorbonne, she started out in classical music production in 2005. She became production manager at the Concours International Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud and at the Bureau de Concerts de Valmalete. Since 2010 she has lead the cultural development service of the ONDIF which was classed by the magazine Gramophone as one of the "10 most inspiring orchestras" with regards to its educational and social policies. Cultural development at the ONDIF is based around activities aiming at allowing its future audience, children, secondary or university students, adults, musicians or otherwise, to discover classical and symphonic music by giving them the possibility of creating their own works through conferences and meetings, vocal workshops, educational concerts and concerts for the young audience. The ONDIF is also seeking to develop educational programs in retirement homes, hospitals and prisons. Vanessa Gasztowtt est actuellement responsable de l'action culturelle à l'Orchestre National d'Ile de France. Suite à son master en Administration et gestion de la musique à la Sorbonne, elle a débuté dans la production de musique classique en 2005 en tant que chargée de production au Concours International Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud et à l’agence Transart, ainsi qu’au Bureau de Concerts de Valmalète. Depuis 2010 elle dirige le service d'action culturelle de l'ONDIF, qui a été classé par le magazine Gramophone comme l'un des 10 orchestres les plus créatifs en matière de politique éducative et sociale. L'action culturelle de l'ONDIF s'organise autour d'activités dont l’objectif est de faire découvrir l’univers de la musique classique et symphonique à son public de demain : enfants, collégiens, lycéens, étudiants, adultes musiciens ou non, lors desquelles ceux-ci peuvent composer une œuvre, chanter, rencontrer des musiciens de l’Orchestre, assister à des conférences ; sans oublier les concerts éducatifs et les concerts jeune public. Récemment, l'ONDIF cherche à se tourner vers les publics empêchés, dans des maisons de retraite, hôpitaux ou prisons. 16
