We refer to your enquiry regarding the health and safety of the Idrofast and Acripap waterbased inks
supplied to your company for the flexo printing of paper & board.
CEPE
General Exclusion List for Printing Inks and Related Products of CEPE (European Council of
Paint, Printing Ink and Artists' Colours Industry).
Inks supplied by Coates Brothers (SA) Pty Ltd will not contain those materials excluded by the criteria
or by specific description on this List. In particular, this excludes from use all materials classified
according to the EC Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) as toxic or very toxic (including
carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction).
EuPIA (European Printing Ink Association)
Inks supplied by Coates Brothers (SA) Pty Ltd will not contain those raw materials excluded by the
EuPIA Raw Material Exclusion List (www.eupia.com).
Printing Inks are manufactured in accordance with the EuPIA “Good Manufacturing Practices for the
Production of Packaging Inks formulated for use on the non-food contact surfaces of food packaging
and articles intended to come into contact with food. (GMP)”. Furthermore, Coates’ & Sun Chemical’s
manufacturing locations are qualified to ISO9001.
Heavy Metals (lead, chromium, cadmium, mercury)
Coates Brothers (SA) Pty Ltd does not supply any packaging printing inks that contain pigments based
on heavy metals. Consequently, we can confirm that printing inks and varnishes supplied by Coates
Brothers (South Africa) will comply with all current and future foreseeable provisions of the European
Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste (94/62/EC), and with the provisions of the Regulations
of the Coalition of North Eastern Governors (CONEG).

Les adhésifs ne faisant pas l'objet d'une directive spécifique, le texte applicable est le Règlement
n°1935/2004 concernant les matériaux et objets destinés à entrer en contact avec les denrées
alimentaires.
Afin de s'assurer de la conformité avec l'article 3 de cette législation, l'emballage final doit être
conforme et doit faire l'objet de tests de migration.
Toutefois, nous vous précisons que les substances que nous utilisons via les matières premières
entrant dans la formulation de notre adhésif Syncol 311 figurent sur les listes de substances
autorisées d'une ou plusieurs des législations suivantes:

Dans la Directive 2002/72/CE modifiée, des limites de migration spécifique sont imposées pour
certaines substances. Sur demande, et sous couvert d'un accord de confidentialité, nous pouvons
fournir les informations utiles afin que le transformateur ait les éléments nécessaires à
transmettre aux acteurs suivants de la chaîne de manière à ce qu'ils respectent les exigences du
Règlement n°1935/2004.

Meets requirements contingent on the final finished article meeting the extractive limitations described in 21
CFR 176.170 (c).

Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 and especially article 3 § 1. a. therein:
Materials and articles, including active and intelligent materials and articles, shall be manufactured in
compliance with good manufacturing practice so that, under normal or foreseeable conditions of use, they do
not transfer their constituents to food in quantities which could:
(a) endanger human health; or
(b) bring about an unacceptable change in the composition of the food; or
(c) bring about a deterioration in the organoleptic characteristics thereof.
This product is not intentionally formulated with raw materials liable to endanger human health or bring about
an unacceptable change in the composition of the food or a deterioration in the organoleptic characteristics
thereof. However, organoleptic testing is not part of the standard quality control testing performed at
Michelman on above mentioned product.
Furthermore, the requirements mentioned in article 3 concern the end-packaging which comes in direct contact
with the food. Since our products will undergo further processing prior to their use in food packaging
applications, it is the duty of the users to verify that the finished items, manufactured according to good
technology practice do not modify the organoleptic properties of the food and to make sure that the
requirements of Regulation 1935/2004/EC are met.
