Do not forget to register. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS Starting a new job is very exciting, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. With all that pressure, don't forget to ask about your basic rights when it comes to workplace safety. You owe it to yourself to know your rights! STUDENTS Thinking about a summer job, but don't know where to start? The Ontario Summer Jobs program can help. It connects the job searching students to potential employers in order to help market yourself. Job search support is available year round and summer job placements begin as early as April. EMPLOYERS A $2 per hour, per student hiring incentive is available to help businesses, not-for-profit and other community organizations create summer job placements. The incentive subsidizes an employer between April 1 to September 30. The program is open to students aged 15 to 30, who plan to return to school in the fall. Starting April 1, we offer students and employers in the Hearst and Mattice-Val-Côté, Hornepayne and Constance Lake region, the opportunity to participate. Come see us to register or visit our web site www.pecpe.ca to obtain the forms. For more information concerning the various student programs, visit the Employment Ontario web site at: http://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/eng/jobseekers/sjs.html Francine MacRae, Resources and Information Technician HEURES RÉGULIÈRES - REGULAR HOURS Lundi au vendredi : 8 h 30 à 16 h 30 Mercredi : 8 h 30 à 18 h Ouvert à l’heure du dîner Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Open on lunch hour KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES As an employee you have many rights, but you also have many responsibilities. By being responsible in the workplace, you can help avoid injury. FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES You may be tempted at times to take shortcuts, but at the end of the day, you were trained a certain way for a reason to keep all your body parts intact! If you have not received health and safety training, let your employer know right away. REPORT HAZARDS When it comes to workplace safety it's your responsibility to report potentially hazardous situations. Just imagine how you'd feel if someone got seriously injured because you didn't want to make a report. PROTECT YOURSELF Gloves, masks, safety boots and other protective gear may not look cool, but if the job requires it, you've got to wear it. You should also never remove a guard or device designed to protect you. No job is worth risking your life. HOW TO REFUSE WORK If you have reason to believe that your workplace is unsafe, you have the right to refuse to work. You should always try to get your employer to correct the unsafe work situation first.
