Commemoration of the earthquake
The Alliance Française in partnership
with the Travelling Caribbean Film
Showcase Office of Cuba , is organising a soirée to commemorate the anniversary of the Earthquake in Haiti, on
Friday 14th January 2011 - 5 pm
The Soirée will begin with the showing of a Haitian documentary.
The President of the Alliance Française originating from Haiti, Sandra
Russo, will bring us up to date on the
situation in Haiti one year after the
drama.
This will be the launch of a film showcase on Haiti which will end on 20th
January.

Why do organizations succeed or fail?
On Friday 21st January at 5:00pm, there will be a conference animated by Mrs Rachel
Paradis : President of International leadership consulting :
International Leadership Consulting (ILC) is a Caribbean consulting firm providing guidance, advices and resources to leaders from small organizations to large corporations
including the public sector and non-profit organizations to manage strategically their talent, HR functions and organization. ILC is managed by a team of Organizational Psychologists and Management Practitioners who have 75 + years of combined international experiences in Leadership and Human Resources Management Consulting. The
organization’s Headquarter is located in St. Vincent and Grenadines, West Indies.
Rachel Paradis holds a Master Degree in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from a
Canadian University. She has established International Leadership Consulting. Prior,
she was a senior Human Resource Consultant and Project Manager for large Canadian
public sector organizations and then worked as an Independent HR consultant. She has
an expertise in Leadership Assessment and Development, Business and Leadership
Coaching, Selection, Recruitment, Training, Business Development & Management.

Epiphany
Epiphany comes from the Greek and signifies “the appearance”. For
Catholics, January 6th, the day of the Epiphany celebrates the arrival of
the three wise men coming to worship Baby Jesus, namely Melchior,
Gaspard et Balthazar.
According to the bible these three kings from Orient who followed the
morning star to Bethlehem in Galilee.
The first of them offered a gift of Gold, the symbol of royalty, the second Myrrh, a symbol heralding the redemptive suffering of Jesus, and
the last one offered Frankincense, the symbol of divinity.
L’épiphanie vient du Grec et signifie « apparition »
Pour les catholiques, le 6 janvier, jour de l’épiphanie célèbre l'arrivée des
Rois Mages venus adorer l'Enfant Jésus, à savoir Melchior, Gaspar et
Balthazar.
Selon la bible, ces trois rois venus d'Orient ont suivi l'étoile du berger
jusqu'à Bethléem, en Galilée.
Le premier d’entre eux a offert de l'or, symbole de la royauté, le second
de la myrrhe, symbole annonciateur de la souffrance rédemptrice de Jésus, et le dernier de l'encens, symbole de la divinité.
Three steps to baking a Galette
1) Mix 125 g of sugar, 150 g of melted
butter, 2 eggs and 200 g of ground almonds. Flavour with a little Rum.
1) Spread the mixture on a disk of puff
pastry, add the bean and cover with a
second disk of puff pastry.
1) Flazz the top with an egg yolk and bake for 25 min at 200 °c.

persons present plus one. This additional slice or God’s slice or the
virgin’s slice, is intended for the
first poor person who will come
in.
Generally, the youngest member
of the assembly hides under the table tells for whom is every slice.

First of all, I would like to extend best wishes to you and yours for the New Year 2011
My decisions and my actions are guided by wishes to allow more knowledge for people who want to improve their French which is one of the main functions of the AF and to allow closer relationships between Grenadians and French.
As you know, the basic mission of Alliance Française can be identified along two major directions: the linguistic activity, with direct teaching and assistance to the French teachers, and the cultural and socio-cultural activities, with projects assisted by the French Embassy to the OECS states and/or other
French organisations, and self-produced project.
As an Alliance Francaise, we have become more and more self-sustaining since assistance from the Embassy has been decreasing over the years and we
are now required to share significantly more of the costs associated with staging the programmes and cultural activities we undertake.

Nevertheless, this fact obliges us
activities of quality in order to satisfy you.
It is what I have tried to do for the past 2 years by giving priority to inviting artists of quality.
In 2009, we had Khalid Kouhen, the percussionist originating from Morocco and the band Krazz’ from Martinique which again gave Grenadians the opportunity to see a Zouk band play live.
We took part in the international dance festival organized by the Ministry of Culture by inviting the Hip Hop dance troop of David Milôme from Martinique.
Then, within the framework of Creole day, we invited one of the greatest poets of Martinique: Joby Bernabé who celebrates the 30th anniversary of his career this year.
Last year saw the showing of the original Speech at SGU made by Barack Obama in Philadelphia;
Unfortunately, because of circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to welcome Fethi Tabet and his band from Algeria as planned;
The participation of Alliance Française in the Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase allowed Grenadians to see films from about twenty countries in the
Caribbean region;
Our inter-island connection saw the arrival of some young people from Guadeloupe for 2 weeks who stayed with local host families
Finally, 2010 came to an end with the much appreciated performance of Ting & Bang at our annual Christmas Party.
This year’s programming is still in the pipeline but the Alliance Française will still be hosting talented artistes on an international level : Dobet Gnahoré :
Ivory Coast singer who won a Grammy award in 2010.
Now more than ever we have a greater responsibility to come up with innovations and propose quality in our programming with more conferences,
shows, cooking classes, and the list goes on… such as the female artists exhibition « WOMA » which will take place from 12th to 25th March at the
Alliance Française.
Some of you have supported us by becoming members of the Alliance Française, and we would like to say thank you.
Knowing that sometimes it is difficult to remember when you have to renew your membership, we’ve decided to run membership by the calendar year
from the 1st of January. New members can still join during the year at a reduced cost.
Classes :
We must acknowledge a slight decrease in the number of students – which is also the case at the other Alliances in the OECS region.
We are working hard to allow those which take classes at the Alliance to be sure that they find a teaching of quality which answers their
wishes.
Our teachers as well as myself are here to listen to you.
We hope, with the assistance of the General Delegation of Alliance Française, to have some new materials which will allow our students to
learn in a fun way .
We have on our team a new teacher doing the adult and children beginners’ classes whose technique is very much appreciated.
I would like to point out that even if you are not taking formal classes with us, it is possible for you to sit the DELF examination, recognized
by the French Ministry of Education:
In the space of the last two years we received almost 100% passes in these exams of which many are secondary school students.
Through the years some sponsors have given invaluable help us in organising our activities and we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to

Tout d’abord, je tiens à vous souhaiter une bonne et heureuse année 2011
Mes décisions et mes actions sont guidées par le souhait de permettre à plus de personnes d’apprendre ou d’améliorer leur français : une des
fonctions principales de l'AF; et permettre des relations plus proches entre les Grenadiens et les Français.
Comme vous savez, la mission de l ‘Alliance française est identifiée par deux directions majeures : l'activité linguistique, avec l'enseignement direct
et l'aide aux professeurs de français et les activités culturelles et socioculturelles, avec des projets aidés par l'Ambassade de France des pays de
l’OECS basée à Sainte Lucie, et-ou d'autres organisations françaises ainsi que des projets propres à l’AF.
En tant qu’Alliance Française, nous sommes devenus de plus en plus autonomes puisque l'aide de l'Ambassade a diminué au cours des années et
nous devons participer davantage aux dépenses des programmes que nous entreprenons.
Néanmoins, Cet état de fait nous oblige de mettre en place des activités de qualité afin de vous satisfaire.
C’est ce que j’essaye de faire depuis 2 ans en privilégiant la venue d’artistes de qualité.
Nous avons en 2009 fait venir le percussionniste originaire du Maroc : Khalid Kouhen ainsi que le groupe Krazz’ originaire de Martinique qui a permis
aux grenadiens de voir un groupe de zouk jouer en live.
Nous avons participé au festival de danse international organisé par le ministère de la culture en faisant venir la troupe de Hip hop de David Milôme de
Martinique
Ensuite dans le cadre de la journée créole, nous avions invité l’un des plus grand poète de Martinique : Joby Bernabé qui fête cette année ses 30 ans
de carrière
Cette année 2010 a vu le spectacle originale à SGU autour du discours de Barack Obama tenu à Philadelphie.
Nous n’avions malheureusement pas pu faire venir le groupe de Fethi tabet originaire d’Algérie.
La participation de l’alliance française au Travelling Film Showcase qui à permis aux grenadiens de voir des films d’une vingtaine de pays de la région
de la Caraïbe.
Le rapprochement inter-île a pu se faire par la venue pendant 15 jours de jeunes guadeloupéens qui ont séjournés dans des familles d’accueil
grenadiennes.
Enfin cette fin d’année a été clôturée par la prestation appréciée par tous de Ting et Bang lors de notre fête de Noël.
La programmation pour l’année prochaine est encore à l’étude, mais l’Alliance française pourrait encore faire venir une artiste talentueuse
de de niveau international : Dobet Gnahoré : Chanteuse ivoirienne qui a été récompensée en 2010 en raflant un Grammy awards .
Maintenant, plus que jamais nous nous devons d’être innovateurs et mettre en place des actions de qualité : avec plus de conférences,
spectacles, cours de cuisine et autres...Comme l’exposition de femmes peintres « WOMA » qui aura lieu du 12 au 25 Mars à l’Alliance Française.
Certains d'entre vous nous soutiennent en devenant membre de l'Alliance Française et nous vous en remercions.
Sachant que parfois il est difficile de savoir ce que vous devez payer concernant votre adhésion, nous avons décidé
de commencer l'adhésion à partir du 1 janvier. Les nouveaux membres pourront toujours se joindre à nous en cours d’année à coûts réduits.
Concernant les Classes
Nous devons reconnaître une diminution du nombre d'étudiants - qui est aussi le cas dans les autres Alliances de la région OECS.
Nous travaillons pour permettre à ceux qui suivent des cours à l’Alliance de faire en sorte qu’ils trouvent un enseignement de qualité qui répond à
leurs souhaits.
Nos professeurs ainsi que moi-même sommes à votre écoute.
Nous espérons avec l’aide de la délégation générale avoir de nouveaux matériels qui permettront à nos étudiants d’apprendre encore plus de
façon ludique.
Nous avons à notre côté un nouveau professeur chargée des débutants enfants et adultes dont les cours sont très appréciés.
Je rappelle qu’il vous est possible de passer l’examen Delf, reconnu par le ministère français de l’éducation :
En l’espace de 2 ans ; nous avons enregistré près de 100 % de réussite à ces examens, dont nombreux étudiants de secondary schools.
Depuis deux ans, certains partenaires nous ont aidés pour la mise en place de nous activités et nous leur remercions
