Qui sommes nous?
Les îles de l’océan Indien possèdent une grande diversité et une richesse botanique unique au monde.
En guise d’illustration, plus de 12000 espèces végétales sont recensées dans la flore de Madagascar dont plus de 80% sont
endémiques. Pour l’Île Maurice, plus de 634 plantes médicinales ont été identifiées et seulement moins de 10% d’entre elles
ont été étudiées.
A cette diversité botanique s’ajoutent des valeurs traditionnelles et culturelles très fortes.
Installé à l’Ile Maurice, CEPHYR est un centre de phytothérapie dont les travaux de recherches sont axés sur les plantes à
visée cosmétique et thérapeutique.
Fort de notre implantation et de nos connaissances, à CEPHYR nous associons rigueur, modernité et tradition dans toutes

What we do?
At the Center for Phytotherapy and Research (CEPHYR), we offer cutting-edge research and development services for the
identification and discovery of novel cosmetics, drugs, and therapies from medicinal plants. Our location in Mauritius offers a
unique advantage. The islands of the Indian Ocean – Mauritius, Réunion, Rodrigues– are collectively known as the Mascarene
Islands, and form a unique eco-region, with distinct flora and fauna. In Mauritius alone, over 634 medicinal plants have been
identified, of which less than 10 percent have been studied. The neighbouring island of Madagascar is famous for its natural
patrimony, and is home to more than 12,000 species of plants, over 80 percent of which are endemic, or known to exist
nowhere else on earth.

Nous avons la ferme conviction que l’utilisation durable de la biodiversité nécessite une approche
multidisciplinaire fondée sur des meilleures connaissances techniques et scientifiques, sur un
solide engagement envers l’éthique et un respect des connaissances traditionnelles locales.
CEPHYR est composé d’une équipe scientifique pluridisciplinaire et multiculturelle :
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim
Professeure de Chimie organique et ancienne vice rectrice de l’Université de Maurice, elle est
diplômée des universités de Surrey et d’Exeter en Angleterre. Lauréate du « Prix l’Oréal-Unesco
pour les Femmes et la Science (2007) » et du « Prix pour les Femmes et la Science de l’Union
Africaine (2009) » et éminente spécialiste des plantes médicinales, elle a déjà publié une trentaine
de livres et plus de 70 articlesdans des revues internationales sur les plantes médicinales et
les ressources végétales. Membre de diverses sociétés scientifiques internationales, elle est
actuellement présidente de l’ICSU ROA (International Council for Science – Regional Office of
Africa), ancienne présidente de l’association « Association African Medicinal Plants Standards
AAMPS » elle fait partie actuellement du conseil d’administration et a été coéditrice d’un ouvrage
sur la Pharmacopée Africaine.

Lolona Rakotobe-Randriamoeliarivony
Docteur en Sciences de la Vie, diplômée du Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris et
de l’Université d’Antananarivo, Madagascar. Spécialisée en chimie, bioactivités et évaluation
toxicologique des substances naturelles, elle a de riches expériences en ethnobotanique,
phytochimie et pharmacognosie des plantes malgaches.
Claire Blazy-Jauzac
Docteur en Pharmacie et titulaire d’un DESS de Production et Contrôle Pharmaceutiques de la
Faculté de Pharmacie de Toulouse. Elle a été responsable de projets au sein du département
des produits pour investigation clinique de Sanofi-Aventis (Montpellier) avant d’intégrer en 2004
le CIDC (Centre International de Développement Clinique, Ile Maurice) en tant que responsable
du service « Assurance Qualité » pour la mise en conformité aux standards internationaux, la
mise en place des Bonnes Pratiques Cliniques et la Certification ISO 9001:2008 du Centre.

We believe that sustainable use of biodiversity requires a multidisciplinary approach, grounded in the best technical
knowledge, solid commitment to ethics, and respect for traditional knowledge found in local communities. The CEPHYR
team is comprised of:
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim
Alumni of the Universities of Surrey and Exeter, UK, she was a former Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Mauritius. A
Laureate of the ‘For Women in Science’ Award of L’Oreal-UNESCO in 2007, she is also the recipient of the ‘Women in Science
Award’ of the African Union Prize in 2009. She is well known for her research work on medicinal plants and has already
published around 30 books and more than 70 articles in international publications. A member of several international scientific
institutions, she is currently the Chairperson of ICSU ROA (International Council for Science – Regional Office of Africa) and
serves as a Board Member of the AAMPS (Association African Medicinal Plants Standards) and was co-editorof a major
AAMPS book onAfrican pharmacopoeia.
Lolona Rakotobe-Randriamoeliarivony
Doctor in Life Sciences, Graduate of Muséum National d’HistoireNaturelle de Paris and the
University of Antananarivo in Madagascar. Having specialised in chemistry, her work has
focused on the bioactivity and toxicological evaluation of natural substances. She also has rich
experience in ethnobotanical, phytochemistry and pharmacognosy studies of Malagasy plants.
Claire Blazy-Jauzac
Pharma D with Masters Degree in pharmaceutical control and manufacturing (University of
Toulouse). Before joining CIDC (Centre International de DéveloppementClinique, Mauritius), she
was Project Manager in the Department of Investigational Product at Sanofi-Aventis (Montpellier).
Since 2005, she worked as Quality Assurance Manager at CIDC (Mauritius): she was settingup the quality system according to international standards and Good Clinical Practice, and ISO
9001:2008 certification. Currently, she is the General Manager at CIDP (Centre International de
DéveloppementPharmaceutique).
