eneral information : All pleasure-boat owners are required to pay the toll under the
French law passed on 29/10/90 article 124, and 20/08/91 bylaw articles 2,3 and 5, as amended by the 23/12/04 bylaw 2004-1425 and 03/10/2007 VNF Board decision. Waivers apply
to vessels less than 5 metres long with engines less than 9.9 CV (i.e. 7.29 KW), and to vessels used by
various public agencies (under a 26/12/96 bylaw). Tolls are payable every time the boat sails on navigable
watercourses under VNF management, under all applicable regulations, and entitle boat owners to use the
public river areas. Sailing, here, means boat travel regardless of whether or not the journey involves crossing
locks.
Tolls do not include:
 a number of special services such as underground passageways, tows, lifts, slopes, locks outside sailing
hours, and other specific facilities.
 mooring fees, especially in ports and landing piers providing specific amenities for amateur sailors.

mportant : When you pay your toll, you will be given a receipt and a label. You will be required to show both at an
inspector’s request. Stick the label at the front of your boat (starboard) and make sure it is visible from the outside under
all circumstances. Inspections may take place at any point in the network, by authorised VNF staff (under bylaw 93-1243
published 19/11/93) or by law-enforcement authorities. If you breach these rules, you will be booked and liable to pay the applicable
fine. Under certain conditions, and subject to State-Prosecutor consent, offenders may be offered a fine to prevent further legal action.

H
ow to pay the toll ? : You may do so on www.vnf.fr (using your credit or debit card on our secure server), by post (see the list of
outlets overleaf) or in person at booths (at the list of outlets overleaf). If you order your label by post, please allow for enough lead time, i.e. :
- if you are in France: one week before your use your boat
- if you are abroad: two weeks before you use your boat.
Documents and information required

- owner’s name and address, boat name and draught
- overall hull length and width (multiply length by width for boat area in sq. m.)
- boat registration number or, failing that, serial number
- the type of toll you want to pay, and river use start and end dates in the case
of season, monthly 30 d, break and day
passes.
Yearly passes are valid from 1 Jan to 31 Dec of the current year
- Debit or credit cards (Visa, EuroCard or MasterCard)
- Enquiries: +33 (0) 3.21.63.24.30 – Mon to Fri 9 to 12 am and 2 to 5 pm
- Cheques for the amount of the pass (for EU citizens).
- Cash (in person only).
* Offer applies for private amateur sailors and excludes “bordering” and “special” rates.
- A photocopy of the navigation permit, sea permit or certificate of registration,
and proof of engine power rating.
2009 packages
Yearly (1) : for keen watercourse enthusiasts, entitling them to a 10% discount provided they pay for the pass by 31 Mar 2009 (valid for the calendar year)
Season (2) : valid for 4 consecutive months starting and ending on stated dates
Monthly 30d (3) : valid for 30 consecutive days starting and ending on stated dates
Break (4) : valid for 16 consecutive days starting and ending on stated dates. If the first day is a Saturday, it entitles you to 3 consecutive weekends
Day (5) : valid for stated date
