Equity, Inclusion and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy:
Training and experiences of Professional educators in
Ontario and Quebec

As Canadian communities grow increasingly diverse, examining the ways that educators and
policymakers are addressing this diversity is crucial in order to improve educational opportunity
and outcomes. In the context of the recent partnership between the Education and Ethnic
Relations working group of the Center for Ethnic Studies of Montreal Universities and the Centre
for Urban Schooling of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, we are planning the study
days that compares the initial and in-service training and experiences of professional educators in
the fields of diversity, inclusion, equity and culturally responsive pedagogy in education, in
Ontario and Quebec. This event will bring together researchers, practitioners, and policy makers
from the Departments of Education and school boards in Quebec and Ontario. The study days
will map out the current situation in each province. More specifically, the study days will bring
together representatives from both provinces to describe and analyse:
1) Québec and Ontario contexts in terms of ethno-cultural diversity in schools and the
training of professionals educators;
2) The knowledge, attitudes and skills central in training for diversity;
3) The impact of this training on educational milieus;
4) Case studies of innovative practices and experiments.
