Message aux étudiants Il vous est possible d’obtenir des bourses d’études pour votre éducation postsecondaire si vous avez de bons résultats au secondaire. Il existe de nombreuses bourses qui sont offertes à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador et partout au Canada. Vous trouverez ci-dessous la liste des bourses dont vous pouvez bénéficier. Un grand nombre de bourses sont proposées aux élèves inscrits dans certaines écoles ou certains programmes en particulier. Renseignez-vous auprès de votre conseiller en orientation sur les autres bourses disponibles. 2. Bourses du gouvernement provincial Par l’entremise du ministère de l’Éducation, le gouvernement de Terre-Neuve-etLabrador remet chaque année 201 bourses d’études aux élèves du secondaire dans la province. Les montants de ces bourses varient de 1 000 $ à 2 500 $ et sont attribuées en fonction des résultats obtenus aux examens publics. Chaque élève éligible est attribué une note globale déterminée par les résultats aux examens publics. C’est cette note que l’on utilise pour déterminer quels élèves recevront les bourses suivantes : Programme de bourses pour francophones de TN&L But: Permettre aux étudiant(e)s francophones de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador de faire des études postsecondaires dans un établissement de langue française au Canada. Total : 3600$ La bourse Junior Jubilee Cette bourse est attribuée à l’élève qui a obtenu la meilleure note globale de la province. Total : 2500$ La bourse Constable W.C. Moss Cette bourse est attribuée au fils ou à la fille d’un membre de la Royal Newfoundland Constabulary ou de la Gendarmerie royale du Canada (en service actif, à la retraite ou décédé) qui a obtenu la meilleure note globale de la province. Total : 1000$ Version du: 11 mars 2013 Études postsecondaires – Bourses d’études 5 Les bourses Electoral District Ces bourses sont attribuées à trois finissants de chaque circonscription électorale qui ont obtenu les meilleures notes globales de la circonscription électorale. Total : 1000$ Les bourses Fifty-five Centenary of Responsible Government Ces bourses sont attribuées aux élèves qui ont obtenu les meilleures notes globales à l’exception des élèves qui ont reçu une des bourses déjà mentionnées. Total : 1000$ La bourse Lester B. Pearson Chaque année, un élève du niveau II est sélectionné pour poursuivre ses études au Pearson College, un collège membre des United World Colleges, à Victoria (C.-B.). Une bourse d’études d’environ 50 000 $ est attribuée pour les deux années d’études au Collège nécessaires pour terminer le programme du baccalauréat international (BI). Total : 50,000$ Bourse BI Holy Heart Chaque année Deux élèves du niveau I de l’extérieur de la région de St. John’s sont sélectionnés pour aller à l’école secondaire Holy Heart, à St. John’s, et y suivre le programme de deux ans du baccalauréat international (BI). La bourse d’études de 5 000 $ par année couvre les frais de séjour à St. John’s ; 1 000 $ peuvent également venir s’y ajouter chaque année pour payer les dépenses de voyage. Total : 5000$ 3. Bourses d’études du gouvernement fédéral Le gouvernement fédéral a établi la Fondation canadienne des bourses du millénaire. Cette dernière offre un programme de bourses générales et un programme de bourses d’excellence aux élèves qui poursuivent des études postsecondaires. Le Programme de bourses générales s’adresse aux élèves admissibles à une aide financière dans leur province. Le Programme de bourses d’excellence est conçu pour les élèves qui font preuve d’engagement envers la communauté, de leadership, d’innovation et d’excellence dans leurs études. Un nombre illimité de bourses sont accordées uniquement en fonction de la moyenne d’admission de l’élève. Les finissants du secondaire de Terre- Neuve-et-Labrador qui présentent une demande d’admission à Memorial University sont aussi automatiquement considérés pour une bourse de 3 500 $ accordée en fonction de la moyenne d’admission de l’élève. Le nombre de ces bourses est limité chaque année. Les finissants du secondaire de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador qui présentent une demande d’admission à Memorial University peuvent aussi demander à bénéficier d’autres bourses allant de 16 000 $ (4 000 $ x 4 années) à 25 000 $ (5 000 $ x 5 années). Ces bourses sont accordées en fonction de l’excellence dans les études, de l’engagement envers la communauté, du leadership manifesté à l’école et des activités parascolaires. Bourses du secteur privé (secteur francophone) Les bourses Paul-Charbonneau Les bourses Paul-Charbonneau ont été créées en guise de reconnaissance pour son importante contribution à l’avancement des droits des francophones en contexte minoritaire et à la promotion de la francophonie canadienne, et plus particulièrement en lien avec la gestion scolaire. Les objectifs visés par ces bourses sont de célébrer la réussite scolaire, le leadership et l’engagement communautaire. Ces bourses visent également à encourager les finissantes et les finissants du secondaire des écoles de langue française de la francophonie canadienne à poursuivre leurs études postsecondaires dans une institution francophone sise en contexte minoritaire et à souligner la contribution des établissements postsecondaires à la vitalité et la pérennité des communautés francophones en milieu minoritaire. Version du: 11 mars 2013 Études postsecondaires – Bourses d’études 7 Les bourses Paul-Charbonneau seront remises au terme de chaque année scolaire à trois finissantes ou finissants du secondaire représentant respectivement chacune des trois régions du pays (Atlantique, Centre (Ontario), Ouest et Nord). Les bourses encouragent ces jeunes à entreprendre la première année de leurs études postsecondaires. Total : 1 000$ Fondation Donatien-Frémont Créée en 1980 par l’Association de la presse francophone, la Fondation DonatienFrémont appuie la relève journalistique au sein des communautés francophones du Canada en offrant tous les ans des bourses d’études et de stage à de jeunes francophones poursuivant des études en journalisme, en arts graphiques ou en communication. Total : 500$ à 1500$ TÉLUQ, l’université à distance de l’UQAM Les mots clés de la réussite, 18 bourses d’études universitaires à gagner. Vous avez le choix d'utiliser la bourse gagnée ou de l'offrir en cadeau à un ami ou un parent. Bourses du secteur privé (secteur anglophone) J.W. Pickersgill Graduate Fellowship One fellowship per year is awarded to a graduate of Memorial University who is enrolled in studies at a pre-doctorate level in history or political science and who meets the scholarship eligibility criteria established by the provincial government and Memorial University. The fellowship is renewable for two years. Applications should be made to the Dean of Arts, Memorial University. Total: 7,500$ Resource Development Scholarship Six scholarships per year are awarded to students enrolled in graduate studies in the sciences related to resource development and who meet the scholarship eligibility criteria as established bythe provincial government and Memorial University. Total: 7,500$ Senior Jubilee Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to the student at Memorial University who attains the highest average in the examinations held during the first two semesters of the student's second academic year. The student will have to continue studies at the university or some other institution approved by the minister. No application is required. Total: 3000$ Saint Pierre et Miquelon Exchange Scholarship Four scholarships per year are awarded to Newfoundland and Labrador students attending the Frecker Institute in St. Pierre who meet the eligibility criteria as established by the selection committee. Application should be made to the Department of French and Spanish, Memorial University. Total: 2,200$ Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to the student enrolled in the third semester of the Forest Service Resources Technology Program at College of the North Atlantic, who achieves the highest weighted average for the first two semesters of the program. Total: 2000$ Dr. Arthur Barnes Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to a student at Memorial University who has successfully completed two years of a degree or diploma course. The university shall take into account scholastic achievement and promise, qualities of character, economic need and any other relevant factor. No application is required. Total 1200$ Dr. William W. Blackall Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to a student at Memorial University who has successfully completed two years of a degree or diploma course. The university shall take into account scholastic achievement and promise, qualities of character, economic need and any other relevant factor. No application is required. Burke Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to a student at Memorial University who has successfully completed two years of a degree or diploma course. Dr. Levi Curtis Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to a student at Memorial University who has successfully completed two years of a degree or diploma course. Kennedy Scholarship One scholarship per year is awarded to a student at Memorial University who has successfully completed two years of a degree or diploma course. The university shall take into account scholastic achievement and promise, qualities of character, economic need and any other relevant factor. No application is required. Total: 1200$ Agricultural Scholarship Three scholarships per year are awarded to Newfoundland and Labrador students who enter the first year of the B.Sc. (Agr.) or B.Sc. (Agr.Eng.) courses at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with the highest averages in the subjects required for admission. If there are insufficient students admitted to the first year of the program, the remaining scholarship(s) are offered to a student (or students) entering the second and, if necessary, subsequent years with the highest average (or averages). Total: 1000$ Version du: 11 mars 2013 Études postsecondaires – Bourses d’études 10 Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarship Fifty-two scholarships per year are awarded on the basis of academic achievement to a student registered in a course of study at Memorial University, the Marine Institute, or College of the North Atlantic. To receive the award the student shall continue appropriate studies on a full-time or part-time basis at one of the institutions referred to above or some other institution approved by the minister. No application is required. Total: 1000$ Florence O'Neill Adult Education Memorial Scholarship Five scholarships per year are awarded to students enrolled in the Level 3 Adult Basic Education Program in College of the North Atlantic who attained the highest marks in the provincial scholarship exam. Total: 1000$ NOIA – Hibernia Commemorative Scholarship In 1997, the birth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil and gas industry was marked by the achievement of a “triple crown” of milestones: the successful completion and towout of the Hibernia platform to its offshore location on the Grand Banks and first oil in November 17th, 1997. To mark this occasion, in 1997 NOIA announced the establishment of the NOIA-Hibernia Commemorative Scholarship Fund. This fund offers an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador who is entering postsecondary studies and intending to pursue a petroleum-related career. The scholarship will be awarded to the student who best meets academic, extra-curricular and needs criteria. Total: 1000$ David Lawrence Memorial Award for Literacy One award per year is given to a student who is enrolled in the Adult Basic Education, Level I program at College of the North Atlantic for at least two consecutive terms. No application is required. Total: 500$ Version du: 11 mars 2013 Études postsecondaires – Bourses d’études 11 Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture This scholarship offers $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador entering post-secondary studies, who best demonstrates knowledge of the Province’s fishing or aquaculture industries. This will be demonstrated through a 2,500 word essay on the industry. As well, academic standing and extracurricular activities will be examined. Newfoundland and Labrador high school students who will graduate in June 2012 and are pursuing post-secondary studies in the 2012-2013 academic year are welcome to apply for this scholarship. Each applicant should outline their community and extracurricular activities in the completed application and include a letter of reference. Box 8700 St. John’s, NL A1B 4J6 Total: 1000$ The Coalition of Persons with Disabilities The Coalition of Persons with Disabilities – Newfoundland and Labrador (COD-NL), in partnership with Scotiabank will provide one (1) $1000.00 scholarship to a high school student, with a disability who will be entering post-secondary in September. Scholarship candidates must: • • • • be graduating from high school and entering post-secondary. be a Canadian citizen with a disability. be entering a Canadian post-secondary institution which is recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. not be related to a member of the COD-NL Board of Directors or staff Total: 1000$ The Sisters of Mercy Anniversary Scholarship This scholarship was established by the Sisters of Mercy to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the sisters on the West Coast of Newfoundland in 1893. The Version du: 11 mars 2013 Études postsecondaires – Bourses d’études 12 Sisters of Mercy, educators in Newfoundland since 1842, have been associated with Memorial University since the university was established. The scholarship valued at a minimum of $1000,00 will be awarded annually to a student from Western/Northern Newfoundland or Labrador entering Grenfell Campus with fulltime status. Academic standing and promise will be the main criteria. Consideration may be given to candidates’ financial circumstances. Deadline: May 31. Total: 1000$ The William & Naomi Lundrigan Scholarship The William and Naomi Lundrigan Scholarship is awarded to entrance students attending Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook. Two scholarships valued at a portion of the income on the endowment will be awarded annually. The recipients must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by the University and consideration may be given to financial need. Deadline: May 31. Total: 2000$ (two scholarship of 1000$) Rufus Guinchard Entrance Scholarship This scholarship has been established by the Newfoundland government in honor of the late Rufus Guinchard. The award, valued at $2000,00 is presented annually to a student entering Grenfell Campus, who has demonstrated a commitment to preservation of Newfoundland heritage and culture. This commitment may be reflected in Newfoundland music, folklore, art or writing. Applicants for the Rufus Guinchard Scholarship should submit, with their application, a statement outlining their interest in and activities pertaining to Newfoundland heritage and culture and samples of their relevant work (which may include recordings of performances). A letter of reference form someone who can assess the applicant’s commitment to and achievement in the areas listed above must also be included with the applicant.
