Store prepared media below 8°C, protected from direct light. Store dehydrated powder in a dry place in
tightly-sealed containers at 2-25°C.
Appearance:
Light yellow colored homogeneous, free flowing powder.
Gelling:
Firm
Color and Clarity:
Light to medium amber colored, slightly opalescent gel forms in petri plates
Directions:
Suspend 50 g of Glucose Yeast Peptone Agar in 1000 ml of distilled water. Heat to boiling to dissolve the
medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs. (121°C) for 15 minutes.
Principle and Interpretation:
The peptic digest of animal tissue provides nitrogenous nutrients, especially amino acids and peptides.
The yeast extract provides Vitamin B complex. Dextrose is a readily available source of energy and a
good carbohydrate source for yeasts.
Cultural characteristics after 18-24 hours at 35-37°C.
Organisms (ATCC)
