G9663 Glucose Yeast Peptone Agar Glucose Yeast Peptone Agar is recommended for the isolation of yeasts from soil specimens. This is a highly nutritious medium, which may be use for other fastidious organisms. Composition: Ingredients Peptic Digest of Animal Tissue Yeast Extract Dextrose Agar Final pH (at 25 °C) 7.0 ± 0.2 Grams/Litre 10.0 5.0 20.0 15.0 Store prepared media below 8°C, protected from direct light. Store dehydrated powder in a dry place in tightly-sealed containers at 2-25°C. Appearance: Light yellow colored homogeneous, free flowing powder. Gelling: Firm Color and Clarity: Light to medium amber colored, slightly opalescent gel forms in petri plates Directions: Suspend 50 g of Glucose Yeast Peptone Agar in 1000 ml of distilled water. Heat to boiling to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs. (121°C) for 15 minutes. Principle and Interpretation: The peptic digest of animal tissue provides nitrogenous nutrients, especially amino acids and peptides. The yeast extract provides Vitamin B complex. Dextrose is a readily available source of energy and a good carbohydrate source for yeasts. Cultural characteristics after 18-24 hours at 35-37°C.
