Founded in 1996, CURE is a national foundation that provides
funding for basic and clinical research for the prevention,
early detection and fight against breast cancer. CURE works
to raise awareness amongst Canadians about breast cancer
and explore all avenues to ensure no lives are lost to this illness due to a lack of research funding.
La Fondation organise une collecte annuelle lors de La Journée
nationale du denim, qui a lieu le mardi suivant la fête des Mères. Par
son engagement et son action, CURE cultive aussi un grand « jardin
de l’espoir » pour toutes ces personnes qui luttent au quotidien
contre le cancer du sein.
The Foundation’s annual fundraiser, National Denim Day,
takes place on the first Tuesday following Mother’s Day.
Through their continued commitment CURE actively contributes to building a great « garden of hope » for those fighting
breast cancer daily.

(banc, bassin, bannières, plantes - à l’exception des annuelles),
puissent être vendus afin d’être réutilisés. Le profit des ventes sera
directement versé à la fondation CURE pour l’aider à poursuivre sa
lutte contre le cancer du sein.
This garden has been constructed so that individual elements
(seating, water feature, banners and plants - with the exception
of annuals), may be sold and re-used. The profit from the sale of
these items goes directly to the CURE Foundation to assist them
in continuing their fight against breast cancer.

Emmanuelle Tittley et Charlotte Gaudette ont fondé
Mousse Architecture de Paysage qu’elles animent depuis
1999. Elles ont à cœur de concevoir des projets socialement engagés, respectueux de l’environnement. Elles
ont aménagé plusieurs espaces extérieurs de services
de garde et d’écoles dans la région de Montréal et
dans le Grand Nord québécois. Les deux conceptrices
réservent régulièrement une partie de leur pratique à
l’exploration de nouveaux vocabulaires par le biais
de projets de jardins temporaires et d’installations.
Emmanuelle Tittley and Charlotte Gaudette co-founded
Mousse Architecture de Paysage in 1999. They are
committed to creating socially engaging, environmentally friendly projects. For several years they have
been active in the creation of outdoor playgrounds for
daycare centres and schools in the Montréal area and
Northern Québec. The two designers regularly set
aside time to explore new vocabularies through the
creation of temporary gardens and art installations.
Isabelle Robida est conceptrice graphique, illustratrice
et artiste en médias interactifs. Infrarouge Communication, son atelier de création visuelle, oeuvre dans le
milieu culturel et social. Isabelle Robida works as a
graphic designer, illustrator and interactive media artist.
Her studio, Infrarouge Communication, specializes in
creating visual solutions for culturally and socially
based projects.
Spécialisé en installation et taille de la pierre ainsi qu’en
horticulture, nous construisons des environnements uniques et créons des ornements et sculptures de jardin
spectaculaires. Horticulturists, stone masons and installations experts, we build distinctive environments and
create ornaments and sculptures for spectacular gardens.

CONCEPTION DU JARDIN GARDEN DESIGN
Dans le jardin, le promeneur est invité à parcourir une succession
d’espaces qui évoquent les trois grandes étapes de la maladie.
Le premier espace correspond au diagnostic et aux émotions qu’il
suscite : le doute, le choc, l’angoisse. Mais aussi le courage et
l’acceptation. Le deuxième aborde la phase des traitements médicaux, les victoires sur la maladie et les rechutes. Le dernier invite à
la contemplation et au recueillement. Il rend hommage à celles qui
ont survécu comme à celles qui ont disparu. L’ensemble du jardin
exprime l’espoir qui habite ces femmes courageuses et leur entourage dans leur combat contre la maladie.
Visitors of the garden are invited to pass through a succession of
spaces intended to evoke the three principal phases of the illness.
The first space corresponds to the diagnostic phase and the emotions
associated with this phase: doubt, shock, fear, but also courage and
acceptance. The second space addresses the subject of medical
treatments, victories in face of this illness and the possibility of
relapse. The final space can be characterized as one of contemplative reflection. It is both a tribute to breast cancer survivors and a
memorial to those whom have lost their fight. The whole garden
expresses the hope of these courageous women and their support
networks during their fight against breast cancer.

The Garden of Hope is centered on the theme of breast cancer. In
a poetic manner, this garden translates the experiences of women
affected by the disease. It contributes to the CURE Foundation’s
mandate of sensitizing the public to issues surrounding breast cancer and improving the future of those coping with this type of cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and touches fundamentally our notions of femininity.

Le jardin de l’espoir a pour thème le cancer du sein. De façon
poétique, il traduit les épreuves des femmes qui en sont atteintes.
Il contribue aux efforts de la Fondation CURE pour sensibiliser la
population et pour améliorer l’avenir des personnes aux prises
avec le cancer du sein. Ce type de cancer est celui qui est le plus
répandu chez la femme et sans doute celui qui la touche le plus
dans sa féminité.
