Exprimer l’intention
1) Certains verbes d’intention expriment une information assez impersonnelle ou un besoin / une > to intend to - to plan - to like (au conditionnel = I'd like to) :
ex : He'd really like to improve his knowledge of the language and is studying very hard = Il aimerait
vraiment améliorer sa connaissance de la langue et étudie très sérieusement.
ex : We intend to tell them the whole truth, one day, but not now! = Nous avons l'intention de leur dire
toute la vérité un jour, mais pas maintenant ! 2) Des auxiliaires modaux, des périphrases et expressions sont, au contraire, plus personnelles,
familières et/ou fortes.
> to be thinking of + -ing :
ex : In spite of the work I have to do, I'm thinking of going to the party! = Malgré le travail que j'ai à
faire, j'ai l'intention d'aller à la fête ....
> to be going to + base verbale :
ex : I'm going to take that exam as soon as possible. = J'ai l'intention de passer cet examen, dès que
possible. > will de ‘volonté bien affirmée' pour exprimer un acte de volonté, bien décidé, pour lequel la
détermination est forte.
ex : In spite of all that he has to fight against, he will survive! = Malgré tout ce contre quoi il doit se
battre, il survivra !
