Après le succès éclatant de sa précédente exposition en Mai dernier à Metropolitan
Museum of Art avec plus de 2000 visiteurs, s’y ouvre une autre exposition d'ikébana
(l'art floral japonais) .
Ikebana International y expose des arrangements florales représentant la variété de
styles d'Ikébana, de traditionnels aux modernes avec leurs branches tels que Sogetsu,
Ikenobo, Ohara, Ichiyo, et Misho.
Jeudi le 27 sep. - dimanche le 30 septembre
Gratuit avec l'entrée au musée.

L’art de l’ikébana
L’ikébana est l’art des arrangements floraux qui se pratique au Japon depuis plus de six cent ans. À l’origine, ces
arrangements garnissent les temples bouddhistes lors des rituels d’offrandes. Ces pratiques sont d’abord
réservées au clergé et se répandent peu à peu parmi les nobles. Avec le temps le style se précise et ses règles
évoluent. L’aspect religieux se fond à la forme décorative. Le seizième siècle inaugure au Japon une ère de paix
et de prospérité. L’essor culturel qui en résulte permet l’apparition d’une première école d’ikébana : L’école
Ikenobo. De nombreuses autres écoles suivront et s’implanteront au fil des siècles.
Ikebana International, chapitre de New York
L’organisation culturelle Ikebana International, chapitre de New York, existe depuis 1957 et compte aujourd’hui
près de deux cents membres. On compte 165 chapitres d’Ikebana International à travers le monde, et celui de
New York porte le #7. Le chapitre de New York a le statut d'association sans but lucratif et est administré
uniquement par des bénévoles. Son but est de favoriser «L’amitié par les fleurs» principalement par des
démonstrations et des ateliers d’ikébana.

After the resounding success in its exhibit in May with over 2000 visitors, Ikebana International NY
Chapter's Ikebana Display is returning to Metropolitan Museum of Art with another exhibition
scheduled for September. If you missed its last exhibition, this is a MUST SEE!!
The Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibits flower arrangements representing styles of various Ikebana
schools, from traditional to contemporary including Sogetsu, Ikenobo, Ohara Ryu, Ichiyo, and Misho
Ryu.

What is ikebana?
Ikebana is an ancient Japanese art form. Histories trace its origins to the sixth century A.D. when formal
flower arrangements appeared in Buddhist temples. By the 15th century, the Japanese had begun
displaying flower arrangements in their homes, and the practice of flowering arranging became
associated with specific rules and styles, which were further formalized as schools, each one associated
with specific compositional and iconographic objectives: In “classical” schools, lines and nature are
paramount; in some modern schools, individual creativity is more important.
What is Ikebana International?
Ikebana International is a cultural nonprofit organization dedicated to the cultivation and perpetuation of
ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, throughout the world and Ikebana International New
York Chapter 7 is in existence since 1957. Our members come from the tri-state area and beyond. Four
or five times a year, we gather for program meetings featuring demonstrations by arrangers from various
Ikebana schools or related cultural programs. We stage one exhibition annually in the New York City
area.
Ikebana International, founded in 1956 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan is dedicated to the study and
promotion of the art of Japanese flower arranging. Representing all schools of ikébana, the organization
has more than 8,500 members. English is our official language. “Friendship through Flowers”, our
motto.
いけばな花展: メトロポリタン美術館にて9月27日から30日に開催
日本の伝統文化のひとつ いけばなの花展が、来る9月27日から30日までの4日間、Ikebana
Displayと題して、 メトロポリタン美術館にて好評につき再開催されます。
前回6月にニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館にて開催された、社団法人いけばなインターナショナルNY支部
のいけばな花展は、おかげさまで大盛況のうちに終了しました。
そしてこの度、多くのお声に応えるかたちで、来る9月27日から30日までの4日間、再度、いけばな花展を開催さ
せて頂く運びとなりました。
当協会に所属する16の流派がそれぞれの思いを花に託し出品し、各作品の美しさと優雅さで、さらにいけばなの
醍醐味を伝えます。
