. TI PROBOARD FOR TILING DECKS ™ Tlle DIY DECK INSTALLATION SYSTEMS EXTERIOR INSTALLATION SOLUTIONS ™ . Instructions for using TI PROBOARD TI.PROBOARD™ on the deck will give you footing Lay first board here Place TI.PROBOARD™on the joists. Screw the first TI-Proboard (with the slot) in from the edge of the deck frame. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THE FIRST BOARD IS STRAIGHT AND SQUARE. Measure and use a chalk line. Continue by interlocking each board to the next, and screw TI.PROBOARD™down on each joist. White dots indicate suggested screw placement. Put screws on each side of seams 2 We recommend using a wet saw when cutting TI.PROBOARD™ Protective/decorative edging. TI.EDGING™ provides a protective and decorative finish. Install while the thin set mix is still wet. This can be done after the TI.PROBOARD™ has been screwed down and mortar bed applied. Press TI.EDGING™ into the thin set with the long side pressing against the deck board. Joining / Butting TI.PROBOARD™ Place each end equal distance on the center of joist . DO NOT MAINTAIN A CONTINUAL SEAM ALONG THE SAME JOIST ALL SEAMS ARE TO BE STAGGERED. No one piece of TI-ProBoard can be shorter than 3 joist spans. 6 1. JOIST 2. TI.PROBOARD™ 3. MORTAR MIX Installing Mortar Mix. Mix to manufacturers specifications and trowel level with the tops of the ribs ensuring to fill the ribs completely. See chart on page 5 for the recommended mortars to use. 5 4 3 2 I 4. WATER PROOFING (IF NEEDED) 5. THIN SET 6. TILE Existing Decks Existing decks can be tiled over, but it is a judgement call if the deck is suitable to accept the installation of TI.PROBOARD.™ Slope may need to be adjusted to allow water run off. 3 TI . PROBOARD is the base of a ™ unique system to form a solid tiled surface to new or existing decks. Deck Maintenance is a thing of the past with a tiled deck. Choose the color and design you want for your outdoor living space with a tiled deck. Create the style and elegance a tiled deck can give you. For a rustic look there are porcelain tiles with a brick or stone finish, or go for elegance with a porcelain tile made to look like marble. So many attractive options are available almost without limits. TI.PROBOARD™ is a structural material so there is no other plywood, backer boards etc. To install, layout TI.PROBOARD™ across the joists, clip each section together, use one coated deck screw to screw down each panel on every joist. Each joist is 16” on center. How difficult is this going to be? TI.PROBOARD™ is not at all difficult, but the installation of tile outdoors has to be more detailed than installing tile indoors. We strongly recommend you use the setting materials we specify. No special tools are required. When your deck is finished there is a dry area underneath for storage. 4 1. Water has to drain off the surface so the deck must slope away from the house at a rate of 1/4" per running foot. 2. During installation of tile air temperature should not be below 40°F and not above 95°F. 3. To fill the channels of the TI.PROBOARD™ use mortar designed to work in freeze/thaw environments. Your local tile professional store will advise on similar products if they don't carry our suggestion. 4. Waterproofing (optional) after the underlayment has dried and before thinset is applied a waterproof membrane can be used. 5. Thin set coverage on the tile should not be less than 98%. If you are not skilled in tiling we recommend you back butter each tile which will give 100% coverage. Use 1/4”x 3/8” x 1/4” notch trowel or 3/8” x 3/8”x 3/8” 6. Use thin set which is latex fortified to ANSI standard 118.4 or better. 7. Use the correct exterior tile for your area. 8. Use a grout recommended for tiling outdoors or as recommended your tile professional. 9. Installing the TI . EDGING™around the perimeter this will give a finished look.
