Three of the four exceptions deal with Sasanian studies, the fourth is devoted to the Crusades. The twenty-four articles concerning Islamic civilization were intended to be, and are, as diverse and wide in scope as Wiet's own interests and publications. In terms of time they stretch from the Sasanian period until the present day. "The quality of the contributions uniformly reflects Wiet's own high standards and [...] the book gives a good idea of the scope and scale of research in Islamic studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem since fifteen articles were contributed by members of its staff. Finally Professor Rosen-Ayalon is to be congratulated for assembling and editing a work which undoubtedly would have delighted the scholar that it honors." Donald P. Little, McGill University, Journal of Near Eastern Studies "(the present collection) is a brilliant success... most (of the articles) are models of lucidity and even elegance..." G.M.
