L’exposition Beautiful Losers - contemporary Art and Street Culture explore à
travers divers médias les travaux récents d’artistes émergents issus de la subculture
des grands centres urbains US, culture skate, graffiti, punk et rap… Elle regroupe
plus d’une vingtaine d’artistes, peintres, designers, sculpteurs, photographes ainsi que des
vidéastes et des performeurs révélés ces 10 dernières années. Un livre de 272 pages illustrées
a été publié par Iconoclast. [ iconoclastusa.com/projects/current.html ]
La galerie du jour agnès b., qui collabore depuis de nombreuses années avec les artistes
phares de Beautiful Losers, fait tout naturellement écho à ce projet itinérant conçu
par Christian Strike et Aaron Rose, en accueillant une version de l’exposition conçue
spécialement pour la galerie du jour, dont le titre UGLY WINNERS, prend à contre
pied celui de l’exposition originale.
Cette exposition sera éjalement l’occasion de visionner
quelques images inédites extraites du documentaire
de Pablo Aravena Next, 2005 : un tour du monde
de la scène graffiti (sortie en salle au printemps 2006,

Inaugurée à Cincinnati au Contemporary Arts Center en mars 2004, Beautiful
Losers a été présentée au Yerba Buena Center de San Fransisco en juillet 2004 et
au Museum of Contemporary Art de Baltimore en 2005. La tournée européenne a
débuté en février 2006 à Milan et Beautiful Losers sera présentée à partir du 12
avril au Tri Postal à Lille parallèlement à l’exposition à la galerie du jour.

The exhibition Beautiful Loser: Contemporary Art and Street Culture explores,
with the use of diverse media presentations, the work of artists that have emerged
from the contemporary subculture recently. It draws its inspiration from major urban
centres and from influences such as skateboarding, graffiti, punk and American Rap
and unites some of the artists, painters, designers, sculptures, photographers, video
artists and performers that have appeared in the past 10 years. A book of 272 pages
has been published by Iconoclast honouring this work.

The galerie du jour agnès b., which has collaborated with
the brilliant artists from Beautiful Losers for many years,
will naturally echo the innovative project of Christian
Strike et Aaron Rose, by welcoming a version conceived
especially for the gallery. This exhibition will also be the
occasion to discover unedited images extracts from the
documentary by Pablo Aravena Next, 2005 - a world tour of the graffiti scene which
will be released in the spring. Co-produced by love streams productions agnès b.

Beautiful Losers has already travelled with great success: to the Yerba Buena Centre
in San Fransisco in July 2004 and the Baltimore Museum of Contemporary Art in
2005. The European tour begins in February 2006 in Milan and Beautiful Losers
will be presented on April 12 at the Tri Postal in Lille, at the same time as the
exhibition at the galerie du jour.
