Megan Waterman of Northern Garments Inc. (NGI)
London, Paris, New York….Dawson City? Over a century ago Dawson City was
titled the “Paris of the North”, and in the decade since her arrival, professionally
trained fashion designer Megan Waterman has been busy reviving the frontier
flair established long ago. Megan Waterman comes from Canada’s Yukon
Territory. As a designer, Megan is inspired by the north and regularly integrates
local materials such as antler, bone and fur into her designs.
Welcomed into the Polar Artists Group and winner of our top national awards for
Design and Innovation, Megan Waterman and her SKOOKUMbrand® line,
named after a First Nation word meaning powerful, strong & impressive are
currently producing distinctly Canadian anoraks with an official endorsement from
the 2007-08 International Polar Year and exporting them worldwide.
As an environmentalist, Megan actively advocates for fur harvesters to be
recognized as Stewards of the land who share values with other
conservationists; and to put her money where her mouth is - NGI is contributing
a significant portion of its profits towards wildlife habitat protection in the north.

fut surnommée "Paris du Nord". Depuis son arrivée, il y a de celà une décennie, la
designer Megan Waterman s'est affairé à y rétablir cette réputation. Originaire du Yukon,
Megan Waterman intègre régulièrement dans ses créations des matériaux locaux tel
que les bois de rennes et d'orignaux ainsi que de la fourrure.
Acceuillie dans le Polar Artist Group et lauréate de prix nationaux prestigieux pour le
Design et l'Innovation, Megan Waterman et sa gamme SKOOKUMbrand®, un nom
emprunté aux premières nations qui signifie puissant, fort et impressionnant,
produisent actuellement une collection d'anoraks typiquement canadiens avec l'appui
officiel du International Polar Year 2007-2008 et les exportent dans le monde entier.
En tant qu'environnementaliste, Megan plaide activement la cause des pourvoyeurs de
fourrures et tente de les faire reconnaître en tant que Défenseurs de la planète, au
même titre que d'autres partisans de la protection de l'environnement; et pour faire
suivre le geste à la parole- NGI consacre une part importante de ses profits à la
protection des habitats de la faune des régions nordiques.
