Congratulations to Pierre and Paulette Gagné for 23 years in business. Pierre
worked for St. Pierre Bakery for 19-1/2 years before deciding to purchase the
bakery. When he started they had 6 employees and have grown to 18 employees today. Everywhere you travel you will see the bakery’s products...
Winnipeg, Emerson, Ste Anne, Steinbach and St. Malo. The Gagné’s have
seen lots of change through the years. In 1972 a loaf of bread was $.16 and
today that same loaf is $2.09 plus gst & pst. Another big change has been government inspections and labelling regulations. Pierre and Paulette continue to
work parttime for their son, Jo, and look forward to their future plans of travelling and spending time with their grandchildren.

We are here to celebrate with Nicole and Raymond Lavergne. They have
been in business since 1998 when they first accommodated the National Film
Board who were making a film honoring Réal Bérard. The Lavergnes proudly shared their Acadian and French heritage to guests from Canada, the United States and Europe. They hosted many guests who were celebrating their
50th, 60th and 90th birthdays. They also saw many wedding parties and reunion guests. The Lavergne’s take pride in their village and would always
boast of our restaurants, the golf courses, museum or any local events. Nicole
and Raymond also reported that guests would often get up early and go for a
walk or bike ride and always tell them what a beautiful and friendly town StPierre-Jolys is.

Congratulations to Elaine and Donat Mellor for 38-1/2 years in business.
After over 38 years of hard work and long hours the couple look forward to
catching up on cleaning, and spending time with their children and grandkids. There have seen many environmental and technological changes since
the beginning including upgrading pumps, debit systems, and placing orders online. As most of you know Elaine and Donat ran two very successful
businesses. Elaine went from working at Le Routier when she was 15 to
making the recipe for the best driveinn burgers. Donat took over the pumps
of a small business where customers paid for gas by honor system with a
body shop running in the back. Donat built a large clientele for gas and
diesel. He offers the services of a C-store, propane and car wash.
Congratulations on all your accomplishments.
At the AGM held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, The St Pierre Chamber of Commerce celebrated the successes of St. Pierre businesses
by presenting awards. One of the Chamber’s goal is to encourage local business and economic growth in our area!

New Tips for Traveling during These Economic Times
As a savvy traveler, no doubt you’ve heard the news or read the headlines about the airlines cutting back on
flights due to industry challenges.
Here are some tips to consider:

There may be fewer nonstop flights to many destinations. For holiday travellers, consider leaving a day
earlier in case one of your flights is delayed or cancelled for any reason.

Ticket prices may be higher on some routes and therefore book early.

More planes will be crowded (and possibly overbooked). Be sure to take advantage of the airline’s web
check in 24 hours prior to departure. This will ensure you have a confirmed seat.

On average, the connection times at airports might be longer. Consider a good book, magazine, your
iPod or where you can to purchase a day pass to one of the airport lounges.

Todd and Carrie Dennis
North Strong Fitness In January 2014
Carrie and Todd Dennis, both certified personal
trainers, decided that they wanted to share their passion for
fitness and healthy living with others -- they started North
Strong Fitness. Originally conceived as a coaching business, their first clients were two women from St Pierre who
wanted help with eating healthy and getting fit. Exercise
and nutrition plans were created for the ladies. Carrie suggested they try one of the conditioning workouts that she
and Todd had been doing in their garage at home. They loved the workout and soon brought some friends,
who brought more friends and so on…. Well things grew and they realized that it was time to expand. In February of 2015 Carrie and Todd decided to purchase and renovate 479 Turenne in St Pierre as the location for
their fitness studio, opening in April. Two other certified instructors joined the team soon after. North Strong
Fitness is not just a business for Carrie and Todd. It is about building a community of fitness. It's about educating people and providing a safe, motivational environment for all ages and all levels of ability - from the beginner exercises to the seasoned athletes, from young teens to older adults. One of their biggest rewards was
having over 40 North Strong Fitness members compete at the Grunthal Spartan Obstacle Course race this past
summer. Not only did some of the members place in the top of their category, but every member completed
the race with no injuries and a huge sense of accomplishment and comradery. While the majority of their
clients are from St Pierre, they also have members travelling from other towns such as St. Malo, Grunthal, Niverville, Otterburne, Steinbach, and even a couple from Winnipeg. Currently, there are over 20 instructor-led
classes per week, including yoga, teen met-con, body-blast, and metabolic conditioning. An older adult class is
in the works as well. They are very honored and thankful for this award.

8:00 p.m. or every Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the
Village Connection in St-Pierre-Jolys or dropped off in collection boxes placed in various locations.To make a monetary donation, cheques should be made payable to Village
