CIRAD is a French research centre
working with developing countries
to tackle international agricultural
and development issues.
With those countries, it works
to generate and disseminate
new knowledge, support agricultural
development, and contribute to
the debate on the main global issues
concerning agriculture, food
and rural territories.
CIRAD has a global network of research
and training platforms in partnership
and regional offices, from which
it conducts joint operations with more
than 90 countries.
The Agence Française de Développement
(AFD) has been working for seventy years
to fight poverty and foster development
in southern countries and the French
overseas regions. It is a public institution
and implements policies decided
by the French government.
Under the supervision of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, the Institut français
is in charge of implementing France’s
cultural action abroad. This cultural
diplomacy is based on a network of
some 96 Instituts français and almost
300 Alliances françaises around the world.
The AFD works on four continents,
funding and supporting projects
that improve living conditions for
local people, support economic growth
and protect the planet. In 2012, the AFD
spent more than 6.9 billion euros
on such projects.
The Institut français works in the fields
of artistic exchanges - live performance
arts, visual arts, architecture, etc -, and
the distribution and promotion of books,
films, the French language, knowledge
and ideas.

IRD is an original and unique research
organization in the European landscape
of research for development.
It is a French public scientific
and technological establishment
operating under the joint authority
of the French Ministry of Higher Education
and Research and the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. IRD endeavours to meet major
development challenges by undertaking
research, training and innovation
activities in developing countries,
for developing countries and with
developing countries, with an ongoing
focus on sharing knowledge
and pooling resources and skills.
Based on an interdisciplinary approach,
the projects carried out with its partners
address issues of crucial importance
for developing countries: tropical
and lifestyle diseases, food safety, climate
change, water resources, biodiversity,
the development of societies, social
inequality and vulnerability,
migration, etc.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
develops policies and strategies
for official development aid agencies.
It defines and implements policies
aimed at strengthening democratic
governance and develops
and monitors French international aid
strategies for health, food security,
human development, climate
and the environment.
In addition, through its overseas
network, and research organizations,
it seeks to ensure the internationalization
of French research and support
for sustainable development.
