La guerre, la paix. Quel beau couple.
Plus jamais ça ? Non, évidemment. Quoique…
War, peace. What a beautiful couple.
Never again? Of course not. Although …
Nous passons de la guerre à la paix
en permanence, et les mécanismes qui
en temps de paix travaillent à l’harmonie
et à la concorde sont les mêmes que ceux
qui produisent en temps de guerre barbarie
et destruction : quoi qu’on en pense, la guerre
n’est pas le prurit de l’humanité, et la paix
n’est pas l’état normal du corps social enfin
guéri. C’est dommage, cette histoire-là nous
plaisait beaucoup. Alors, qu’en faire ? Pleurer,
commémorer, et continuer à batailler ?
We constantly move from war to peace,
and the mechanisms which in times
of peace work towards harmony and concord
are the same as those that produce barbarity
and destruction in times of war: whatever
we may think, war is not what makes
humanity itch, and peace is not the normal
state of the social body cured at last.
Pity, since we liked that kind of narrative
a lot. So, what to do? Cry, commemorate,
keep fighting?
Leur coalition gagnante reformée,
Transquinquennal et Tristero portent
sans pitié le fer dans la plaie du conflit.
À partir de mécanismes guerriers identifiés
(croyance, adhésion, volonté collective)
ils déploient sur le théâtre des opérations
performatives une stratégie très musicale
et assez guantanamesque.
Comme le spectateur, nécessairement innocent
et vulnérable, est toujours l’otage de sa propre
envie, l’escalade est alors inévitable.
Their winning coalition on the march again,
Transquinquennal and Tristero have decided
to bite the bullet mercilessly. Making use
of identified war mechanisms (belief,
adherence, collective will), they deploy
a very musical and Guantanamo-like strategy
on the theatre of performative operations.
Since the spectator, necessarily innocent
and vulnerable, although complicit,
is always a hostage to his or her own desires,
an escalation is, alas, predictable.
