25 bâtiments construits ces 2 dernières années en Finlande constituent cette édition consacrée
à l’architecture contemporaine finlandaise. Les réalisations sont issues de différents secteurs
privés et publics : logement, éducation, affaires, conservation du patrimoine et édifices
religieux.
L’exposition, présentée en 2006 à Helsinki, est la seconde édition de cette biennale consacrée
à l’architecture contemporaine en Finlande : elle rassemble les plus remarquables réalisations.

Dès la fin de la 2ème guerre mondiale, la production architecturale est consacrée
à la reconstruction. Dans un souci de rationalisation, de grands architectes développent des plans-type pour l’habitat mono-familial. 1951-1960 : cette décennie
marque la volonté d’atteindre une grande qualité architecturale : elle est marquée
par un lien recherché avec l’environnement naturel, un respect de l’échelle
humaine et l’utilisation des matériaux bois et brique. 1961-1970 : l’urbanisme
vient enrichir le débat architectural : le béton armé fait son apparition.
1971-1980 : apparition des grands équipements. 1981-1990 : le mouvement
post-moderne ne perce pas en Finlande. Il permet, toutefois, de contrôler
l’évolution de la préfabrication en recherchant à diversifier la production.
1991-2000 : la qualité architecturale est reconnue sur un plan mondial.
