Exhibition Charles Drybergh “Disfigured Reality” - MB-XL
Exhibition Charles Drybergh “Disfigured Reality”
From October 21 to November 21 November 2015
MB-XL is thrilled to welcome Charles Drybergh’s work, a belgian artist.
WORK : Born in Jette in 1932, Charles Drybergh died in Ostende in 1990. He moved in
Blankenberge in 1950 with his parents and then again moved in Ostende in 1961. As for his
work, he took an interest in painting and drawing. Charles Drybergh was a painter and a
draftsman. Self-taught artist, he produced his first creations during the 1940s. Then, he gradually
moved onto more lyrical abstraction in the mid-50s. As Charles progressed in his career, his
strokes darkened and his paintings became more and more gestural. During the 1960s his dark
structures appeared as gigantic signs close to oriental calligraphy. Afterwards, he gradually
reintroduced human figures in his canvases where he preferred using shades of black, white and
grey. He kept an abstract predominance. His works are exposed in the Museums of Ostend,
Liège and Brussels.
