Inquiry is an approach to chosen themes and topics in which students pose real questions which occur at any time and is encouraged. An inquiry approach is a process of being open to questioning, to discovering and understanding, working collaboratively together to achieve a common goal. Michelangelo International Elementary School is in the candidate phase in pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World schools share a common philosophy which is, a commitment to high quality, challenging international education which is important for our students. The international programme aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world. At Michelangelo International, our goal is to have students acquire the knowledge needed to face the challenging world, to provide them with the tools and strategies that can be used in a wide variety of environments. In the coming new year , IB visitors will be visiting Michelangelo International. Look for the next newsletter for upcoming news on this exciting event. The students were encouraged to draw and write about their family, share the roles of their family members and discuss their favourite family activities. Students were open-minded when discussing what families look like and the differences between our families and families from around the world. Grade 3 News- Unit of Inquiry-Roles and Relationships Look at what is happening in Grade 3!!! Mais...que se passe-t-il en troisième année!!! We have started the year with an exciting unit of inquiry where the students learned about how roles influence relationships. They are exploring different relationships amongst their own families, the different roles that each one of us plays and the responsibilities that these roles entail. We are also looking at different cultural relashionships, enriching their own learning. Through this important research project, our students are learning the importance of being open-minded individuals by listening to others and respecting others' opinions. By being openminded, our students appreciate different cultural roles and relashionships, thus expanding their knowledge and understanding of others. Their communication skills have been enhanced through the bilingual oral presentation of their final work. Our students were well prepared and eager to present a biography on their classmates, learning important research, thinking, social and communication skills done in both languages! What a way to begin grade Grade 5 News- Unit of Inquiry-Communications In Grade 5 the students at Michelangelo International Elementary school were learning about the different ways people interact with one another. They discussed different means of communications through verbal, non-verbal, symbols and the arts and came to understand the different meanings behind each. De plus, ils ont pu observer des symboles et des gestes qui ont différentes significations pour différentes cultures. Par exemple, le parapluie est utilisé ici pour nous protéger de la pluie. Tandis qu’en Asie on l’utilise pour nous protéger du soleil.
