On 3 October, an event at the Palais Omnisports provided the opportunity for more than 10 000 French and European apprentices to
meet for the first time.
This event demonstrated the benefits of spending part of the training period in another EU country.
Encouraging mobility in young Europeans, particularly in young apprentices, is a priority for the French Presidency.
For both the European Union and the Member States, this means giving apprentices the opportunity to benefit from a more
extensive programme of European exchanges in their specific trades, as university students have been doing for years.
On 2 October, nearly 2 700 apprentices from 26 EU countries were welcomed to Paris by French apprenticeship networks for a
programme of cultural and professional events.
On 3 October the event at the Palais Omnisports brought together more than 10 000 apprentices from all over the European Union
for the first time.
Throughout the morning and in the presence of European authorities, apprenticeship and the mobility for young Europeans were
highlighted through a presentation of the best French and European apprentices, along with first-hand accounts of successful career
paths and examples of professional mobility.
This event was the result of cooperation between several ministries (the Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment, the
Ministry for Education, and the Ministry for Agriculture), the Ile de France Regional Council, representatives from professional
sectors and organisations, consular networks, associations of journeymen and big companies.
These networks had been working since February of this year to ensure that this event was a major European celebration, one that
brought together young people who are training to perform much needed-trades throughout Europe.
These exchanges of experiences between young people and their instructors from 27 countries pave the way for creating networks
of European training centres. The event demonstrated the true nature of apprenticeship, a pathway to excellence and the backbone
of the future Europe.
