The Woodland Caribou inhabits the Arctic Tundra and the North Pole. Their hooves adapt to the changing
seasons. During the summer, when the tundra is soft, their footpads become like sponges to create a bigger surface area on the wet ground. In the winter, the footpads shrink, exposing the rim of their hooves
enabling to the caribou to cut through the ice, thus avoid slipping. The Woodland Caribou is the mammal
that travels the furthest for migration and can be found in herds of over one thousand caribou.
Le caribou des bois habite dans la toundra arctique et au pôle Nord. Ses sabots s’adaptent aux saisons.
L’été, lorsque la toundra est molle, le dessous de ses sabots devient spongieux afin de créer une plus
grande surface sur le terrain humide. L’hiver, le dessous de ses sabots rapetisse, exposant les onglons, ce
qui lui permet de couper la glace et d’éviter de tomber. Le caribou des bois est le mammifère qui se déplace le plus loin pour la migration. Il se promène en troupeaux de plus de mille.
