1 Introduction
Action D4 is one of the four project actions located within the action bundle D, which is responsible
for the communication and dissemination activities. The action D4 deals with the installation and
maintenance of information boards which will be displayed in strategic locations accessible to the
public in order to inform the community about the CLEAN ROADS initiative.
This document aims to present the notice boards’ design and installation activities, and to describe
the logistic choices that have led to identify the locations of strategic importance where the notice
boards have been installed.
During the first project months, the focus has been on:
(i)
the preparation of the project poster to be displayed through the notice boards;
(ii)
the consolidation of the points where to install them, in order to maximize their visibility
from the local population;
(iii)
their physical activation in the identified installation point.
The graphical layout of the poster was defined by taking in consideration the common corporate
identity which was proposed for all dissemination channels activated in the scope of the project, in
order to create a simple set of identification elements that could ease the project recognition by the
target audience.
As described in the Inception report, the activities of this Action have partly suffered of the main
problem encountered during the first project months, namely the bureaucratic delay in the approval
of the budget allocated for external expenses, and therefore including the external budget allocated
for the notice boards activation. Nevertheless 3 notice boards have been already installed in
specific locations, and a lot more will be erected within the next months.

2 Informative message selection
The purpose of this action is the installation of five notice boards reporting basic information about
the aims and the activities of the CLEAN-ROADS project.
First of all, in accordance of Action D2, project beneficiaries have evaluated the target to whom the
information contained in the notice board should have been directed. As the aim is to achieve the
maximum exposure to the project and to the LIFE+ program, defined as the ability of the delivered
message to reach the identified target groups, it was decided to destine the information panels
mainly to the local pedestrian. Indeed, the Italians Rules of the road set out restriction to panels
addressed to drivers as, in order not to cause distractions from driving, they should be of large size
and with oversimplified text elements. This hypothesis would lead to the difficulty of transmitting
enough information about the project and would increase considerably the cost of installation
because of the necessary support structures and their foundation works.
It was therefore decided to erect notice boards of dimensions 106 cm x 150 cm. As shown in
Figure 1 the poster shows an image of a car partly covered of snow and partly free, which directly
refers to the aim of the project which is to reduce the amount of salt used in the winter road
treatments in order to minimize the environmental impact of these activities but without affecting
the current road safety levels. Under the main image there is a text area offering some details
concerning activities and possible achievable results.

The image is printed on a DIBOND frame that consist of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a
core made of dark polyethylene; the hexacromia inkjet printing is reproduced on a vinyl layer
protected by a transparent laminate and antireflective film.

3 Locations of installations
As described above, the notice boards are installed in locations where they can be easily read by
pedestrian.

Different installation location are identified:
1. in correspondence of the first monitoring site located at the km 398.050 of the SS12
denominated road of Abetone and Brennero near the Cadino town (Figure 3).;
2. in a stopping place at the km 393.000 of the SS12 road (Figure 3).;
3. in a stopping place at the km 400.400 of the SS12 road utilized both from the road drivers'
and from the bike riders' passing on the bicycle path of Adige Valley (Figure 3);
4. at the road’s inspector house located in correspondence of the southern boundary of the
case study road, at the km 389.500 of the SS12;
5. at the headquarter of the project partners (Road Service Management, Weather Service,
Local Agency for the Environment, Famas Systems, TIS innovation park) (Figure 4 and
Figure 5);
6. inside the limited traffic zone of the historical city centre of Trento (Figure 4).

So far 3 panels have been installed in zones 1 ,4 and 5 (only at the Roads Service Management
building, as shown in Figure 1) while those planned for zones 2, 3 and 5 will be placed in the next
few weeks. As far as the other notice boards are concerned, i.e. two to four panels are going to be
installed in the inner city; contacts for obtaining the proper authorizations and spaces have been
already started and the plan is to finally complete this task during the summer months of 2013.
