Overview on some selected publications

Akbalik A., A. Hadj-Alouane, N. Sauer et H. Ghribi, NP-hard and polynomial cases for the single-item
lot sizing problem with batch ordering under capacity reservation contract, European Journal of
Operational Research (2017) 257, 483-493
« We carried out theoretical studies on the contracts in the supply chain management topic. The main
question is « How to determine the minimum cost production plannings under different realistic
constraints ? » The goods are replenished by batch (which can model transport in pallet, container, or
vehicle) and two supply chain members sign a contract to have advantageous prices in case of early
capacity reservation. For this problem we found very efficient exact methods and classified some NPhard cases. »
Ertogral K., Akbalik, A. and González, S. Modelling and analysis of a strategic fleet sizing problem for
a furniture distributor, To be published in EJIE (2016)
« We carried out this industrial project with Mr Ertogral (Associate Prof in TOBB ETU, Ankara) when I
was visiting prof in TOBB ETU. We developed a decision tool to help a distributor to decide its fleet size
to acquire in order to satisfy its customer demand. This is a real strategic fleet sizing problem where the
distributor plans to go to a new system where the inventory is centrally held in a distribution center. We
proposed a mixed integer linear program to determine the total number and types of owned and rented
vehicles for each region under seasonal demand. We studied the effects of different scenarios on cost
and demand parameters, and suggested some managerial insights based on numerical analysis. »
Akbalik A., B. Penz and C. Rapine. Capacitated lot sizing problems with inventory bounds. Annals of
Operations Research (2015) 229, 1–18
« This is a joint work with my PhD superviser Bernard Penz and my colleague Christophe Rapine. We
studied the inventory capacitated production systems. This kind of lot sizing problems is not very well
studied in the literature, where classically we focus on production costs and constraints but not often
inventory constraints. For such a constraint realistic setting, we optimized the associated problems using
efficient methods. We determined the complexity classes. »
Tortai J.H., A. Akbalik, S. Soulan, P. Schiavone. Inverse problem solving and optical index
determination of resist films by ellipsometry. Microelectronic Engineering (2010) 87, 893-898
« This study arised during our collaboration with the team working in a microelectronic &
nanotechnology center (LTM, Grenoble). The topic is developed in advanced lithography team,
measuring carachteristics of thin films deposited on silicium wafers. Optical index and film thicknesses
are determined by using different laws in order to calculate theoretical ellipsometry signatures and by
solving the inverse problem. This article presents two strategies we have developed in order to accurately
determine optical indexes and the thickness of resist films. »
Akbalik A. and Y. Pochet. Valid inequalities for the single-item capacitated lot sizing problem with
step-wise costs. European Journal of Operational Research, EJOR (2009) 198, 412-434
« This project is held at CORE in UC Louvain (Belgium) on an integer programming model applied to a
class of lot sizing problem, a very classical problem in production planning. The integer programming is
a tool to model the complex world problems using mathematical tools (with an objective function to
minimize or maximize and with different constraints, in order to compute the optimal values of the
decision variables). In this center we developed efficient techniques to solve this specific production
planning problem in a reasonable time, using polyhedral approach. »
