EARS PRIZE
FOR THE BEST PHD THESIS IN ENGLISH LITERARY AND CULTURAL STUDIES
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of EARS (English and American Rhenish
Scholars), the EUCOR-based cooperation of the English departments of the universities of
Freiburg, Basle, Mulhouse and Strasbourg, a prize for the best PhD thesis will be awarded for
the first time. The thesis will have been submitted to one of the four universities. Theses can
be proposed for the prize by their supervisors. The theses will treat a subject in English or
anglophone literary studies or cultural studies or civilization. For this first prize award the
relevant date will be that of the thesis defence (Rigorosum) viva which must lie between 1st
September 2012 and 30th March 2015. The prize will be 800€.
Nominations with two copies of the thesis and two copies of the official reports as well as
two copies of the candidate's cv should reach the committee headed by

This procedure will enable the committee to constitute itself in accordance with the
specializations required to judge the nominated work during the EUCOR MA and PhD
conference on 10th and 11th April 2015 in Mulhouse and will allow members of the
committee to take home copies of the theses in their cars. The prize will be awarded on
Friday 4th December 2015 at the EARS meeting in Freiburg.
