1. PRESENTATION OF THE NETWORK
“SI TOUS LES PORTS DU MONDE”
S
i Tous les Ports du Monde is an international network promoting economic and
cultural exchanges between its members and creating long-lasting partnerships.
This Network originally evolved from a Festival in the Saint-Malo Region
(Haute-Bretagne).
T
hree festivals have now been organized (Saint-Malo / Cadiz 1997,
Glasgow / Dublin 1999 and Genoa 2001), partnered with other
cultural, tourist, economic and gastronomic events.
The links between national and international partners have been reinforced
thanks to such close collaborations.
T
oday other European cities and ports from as far afield as Asia and North
America have now joined “The Core of the Network” which comprises
of the members from Saint-Malo, Cadiz, Glasgow, Dublin and Genoa. Now,
52 members in 16 ports sites around the World.
T
he Network allows members access to :
• a resource centre available to all members,
• a communication service,
• networking facility,
• project updates,
• event organization at members request.
The Network is a non-profit Association (Loi 1901).
It is financed by membership fees, grants (County Council of Ille-et-Vilaine
and Saint-Malo city), services and financial partnerships.

2. THE “CLUB des HOTELS des PORTS du MONDE”
Preamble
L
ike harbours, hotels suggest travelling and are synonyms of arrivals and
departures. They are also places for cultural exchanges, all the more so
when located in harbours…
Main idea consists in building a Club of hotels, located in port sites, from the
current association and network base “Si tous les Ports du Monde”:
Saint-Malo, Cadiz, Calvi, Dublin, Gamagori, Genoa, Glasgow, Guadeloupe,
La Réunion, Montréal, Marseilles, Quebec, Quimper, Sao Leopoldo,
Sønderborg and Trondheim.
Project status
T
he project is at the very beginning stage. Rules, principles and
areas of exchanges, both business and cultural, are still to be
further discussed and defined.
It shall be outlined that the project is not based on a commercial
structure but only depends on good will and motivation of each
future partners.
F
oundation of the Club des Hotels des Ports du Monde consists in
gathering a few (3) Founding Members of the Club.
These hotels will be responsible:
•
for implementing first actions in the short term (2010-2011) in
order to practically launch the network,
•
for developing the network both in terms of members and
topics/content for potential exchanges between members.
F
irst Founding Member shall be Thermes Marins de Saint-Malo
(175 keys 4* hotel with thalasso & spa facilities, located in
Saint-Malo on the Sillon beach, see www.thalassotherapie.com
for more information).
Two to three other founding members shall be identified and selected
in the short term.
Which hotels are concerned?
Main characteristics of potential partners may be the following :
• Preferably independent hotels, or at least hotels benefiting form
independent management and autonomy in partnerships
• High-range hotels with significant capacity preferably (>60keys)
• Hotels being unique or having a soul either through their history,
or their link to the harbour, or their specific location…

harbour cities

Ports du Monde
Levels of requirements will still have to be more precisely defined
among Founding Members.
Once the Founding Members will have been selected, other members
can be identified and selected through a cooptation process
(eg presentation of an hotel candidate by two members of the
network, and approval of Founding Members and of the Executive
Vice-Chairman Loïc FRémont).
Potential actions to be undertaken
T
his section presents a first and preliminary list of actions that may be
considered and implemented by the Club des Hotels des Ports du Monde:

displayed at the entrance of each member hotels.

• Possibly organizing incentives for managers of member hotels in other hotels of
the Club.
• Possibly, exchanging employees among the various teams of member hotels
(waitress, cookers, front office…)
• Possibly organizing seminars and exchanges sessions on best practices…
Various possible actions and commercial objectives (short/mid-term) still have to
be more precisely defined among Founding Members and will depend on each
partners will to develop as well as corresponding means dedicated by the network
and the members of the Club.
